A couple of other notes about this song: -Keith wrote the musical part in his car in TEN MINUTES, waiting for Mick, who he had just found out was sleeping with then-wife Anita Pallenburg. In fact, he knew that was what was probably going on at that moment. -Mick did write the lyrics, and they are in fact about the chance that War is always around us, and he did have the Vietnam war in mind. -Opening played on an Electric acoustic. -Guitar tracks to this song are so amazing. The chugging sound never ceases and that is something that doesn't often happen. -I did hear that Keith did write everything for Wild Horses. -Rolling Stone called this the PERFECT SONG recently, and I tend to agree. |

Actually, he is Wrongly convicted, and can't stay in the pen to serve his sentence, and knows he is going to have to die because as he said "I can't take that anymore," which is a haunting lyric. This is a really pretty song and shows why Ronnie Van Zant is truly one of the greats. |

Stoney buddy, I read what you said I had to sign up and rip you a new one. Unlike our young friend, I'm a little older and am a music nut. Skynyrd happens to be my PERSONAL Favourite. If you ask me, the best band ever, bar-none, is the Rolling Stones but its just my opinion. As far as Skynyrd, You clearly have not listened very deeply into their music. I can't blame you for that, but to say overrated is stupid. I'm sure most of what you've heard is the standard radio hits like FreeBird, Sweet Home Alabama, and What's Your name. Great songs but the real true Lynyrd Skynyrd are songs like That Smell, I never Dreamed, Ballad of Curtis Loew, 4 walls of Raiford and Saturday Night Special. Lead Singer Ronnie Van Zant would wipe the floor with Robert Plant, lyrically. If you wonder why most Skynyrd fans are so hardcore, its mainly because of VAn Zant and his songwriting talents. Dude never wrote a single letter down, it was all in his head. Plus they had one of the truly underrated guitar players ever. Steve Gaines was a magician, and for whoever it was who said they would get the floor mopped by Neil Young, musically. Got take another look buddy. SKynyrd were first and foremost musicians, hell listen to skynyrd Live and listen to Zepplein live, and its no contest. And one more thing, anyone who wants to argue the Allmans are better then bring it on, because its apples and oranges. BTW, stoney you sound like a 14 year old with you stupid comments. End of Rant |
