Next to Amazing Grace, this song touches a place in me that few songs do. It's an incredible tribute to Beatz and a song that like all of Bayside's music reaches so many and applies to so many people in so many different ways. |

Answers we'll never get was written before Beatz died...It's about a break up and the person (a woman) offed herself and he doesn't understand and he's upset that she would do that over a break up... |

This song to me means that Ant has finally realized that he's come to terms with not being like everyone else...that he's okay with being and saying things controversial - comfortable in his own skin...and he's learned over time that you can say things others don't like as long as you "learned where to stand and where to tread lightly" He's also saying maybe that he's tired of being scoffed at and that it's about time someone listens to his rants besides I & I...and he can get further by taking a deep breath and calming himself down when he gets pissed at things he doesn't like...and if he can just keep this up, he'll be fine but if not the bottom will drop out from under and he'll end up in a nut house in a padded room. Regardless of what you take from the lyrics, they're brilliant and meaningful which pretty much sums up every song I've ever heard Bayside do...awesome stuff. |

I don't think the lyrics posted in the last line of the first verse are right. It says "I guess it was right to me." I think it should be "I guess you're what drives me." I hate it when people fuck up the words to a great song...anyway...I can totally identify with this song because my ex drove me up the wall or in this case into the guardrail and the only thing that kept me from "driving her too fast into a sharp curve and breaking her neck like she broke my will" was the "guardrail" or in my case my kids. It didn't matter how much she made me want to put her out of my misery, my kids would bring me home...
There is so much to this song that anyone in any shitty situation can identify with and the symbolism of the "guardrail" can apply to anything that keeps one from doing a regretable life changing act. A brilliant song. My son went to a show a while back and he and his friends convinced the band to play the song even though it wasn't on the set list and hadn't been performed live in a long time. Just another example of how tremendous this band is and how into their fans they are! Love them. |

Check the lyrics sheet...the line "now for great songs that no one understands" should read "NOT" for great songs that no one understands. Cool song about the guilt artists should feel for not being true to their craft and compromising their music for a buck. Anthony is pissed off at all the crap that big record companies churn out and is saying how most of it lacks substance or meaning. Which is exactly what every Bayside song whether it's a Smoking Popes cover or Counting Crows cover...they're all meaningful well thought out songs and the melodies and solos are incredible. Anthony, Jack, Nick and Chris are 4 of the most talented guys out now both musically and lyrically. Take a look at the lyric sheets and listen to them and if you've got a brain in your head, you'll agree. |

love Punchline...bunch of brainy dudes from Pittsburg! Saw them at the Bottleneck in Lawrence Kansas. This song wasn't on their set list but it's an awesome song! It very plainly put says what Sting said over 2 decades ago; "when the world is running down, you make the best of what's still around!" |

also I'm not sure if Anthony is talking about being lied to by some exec or talking about the shit we constantly talk ourselves into after something really tragic or fucked up happens in our lives. That's the cool thing about this song..it could apply to being sold out or deciding to sell out or just plain giving up because you can't take the B.S. any longer...it truly makes you so tired of getting out of bed...but then who would want to die as a cowardly little child? when our time is up we'll be ashamed or proud" based on what we decide...or maybe i'm just high? who gives a F*ck! it's an awesome song! and the album is in my top 2 favs of all time. |

I think this is a song about Anthony and Jack getting dealt a "shitty hand" and they're talking about whether or not it's all worth it...they admit they're scared and that all the help they could get from a shrink won't change what's happening in their lives...maybe some retrospective thougths they had from the tragic loss of Beatz Hollohan (maybe)...but you figure they just said "fuck it...let's play..." when our time is up, our time is up." Once again Jack kicks the bar up to another level with a ripping guitar solo too...the guy is rapidly becoming one of my fav if not favorite guitarists of all time. |

I agree with Blazedinacoffin...Jack O'shea is a baddass! You'd never know from seeing the guy until you talk to him...dude is so quiet and totally not self absorbed...but he speaks like a monster thru his guitar riffs. total badass! |

This song is obviously a follow up to "Masterpiece." Anthony is either talking to a close friend who he watches waste his/her life away...who didn't get the message from his first warning in Masterpiece.."Always the last one to leave the table emptied til every bottle in the place has been upside downat least a few times what a waste. What has become of you these days?"
I've met these guys and it strikes me how in tune they are and thoughtful with what they say. A lot of times just flat out brutal honesty! One of the most creative guys in the biz. |
