Is this one of his new songs he is playing in concerts? Seems from the recurring trend in his music that his is strongly autobiographical. Remnants of Fewer Broken Pieces with his quite negative self-reflection. I like it. It's powerful, it's personal. The end makes you think he'll either stop making music soon or that the subject matter will change. I hope that regardless, the man continues to put on music. |

Beautiful, chilling song. He is talking about his breakup with TW Walsh. Best linse: Jesus dude! None of us know what to do with you To which I in pride responded I've got news for you None of you have to 'cause I still run the show Don't you forget it You can definitely tell he has a tendency to "know it all." I got the feeling from what he said at his show april 17 that he may have been shutting out Walsh's say on the bands message. Just a really nice remorseful song. |

| I think about this song while I'm going through my day. Making sure that its never quiet. Often it is though and they do come out. | |

You played the flute But no one was dancing You sang a sad song But none of us cried Okay... yeah church unity good stuff... but this song really came alive for me when my friend showed me a passage in Luke. I didn't understand these lines until I read it (and then still i didn't until really thinking about it). Luke 7:32 "They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other: “ ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.’" The passage before talks about John the Baptist and Jesus. The Pharisees had rejected J.t.B because he came fasting and not drinking. Then when Jesus came they called him a glutton and a drunkard because for eating and drinking. Then you take the semiconfusing parable about the children. The kids want to be entertained so he plays the flute, but that's too joyful. So he sings a sad song instead, but that's too sad. There's no pleasing them. So back to the church. Are we too hard to please? Are we too unreasonable? Almost all the time yes. This hurts us SO bad. |

| mewithoutYou – I Never Said That I Was Brave Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| In search of comfort, he chose sex. Then he found it was only fleeting. But once away from it, its the easiest one to get back, so he goes back. I love his honesty. Its so painful to go back to something like that, but obviously more painful to leave it even though its not where he knows True comfort comes from. | |

If they ask you for a sign of the Father Tell them it's movement, movement (of hope) Goodness, that's so nice. |

I would definately say its God. If for no other reason than I don't make promises to my earthly father to not lust. So, yeah I also think its about lust and sex. I didn't get the "i'm nearly dead" part. I really really like this song, maybe because of pure relational meanings to me. Lust is hard for 18 year old guys who are trying not to. You feel so wrong and guilty. Satan would have you believe that your dead to God... maybe that's what he's saying, but you feel so very distant. But that's not what God wants. He hit it on the head "i understand, son". We're going to sin and probably do the same one a lot... but He's not leaving you... ahhh good feelings good song. |

you know i want to be like Jesus but it seems so very far away when will i learn to obey Hits me hard. Its an impossible journey to be like Christ and especially when you look at all his characterists on whole. Then you look at where you're at... but its as simple as obeying. |

You don't have to be in love with God to enjoy a good praise song... Oh man, this song makes me want to cry. |

haha gyroscope, i feel you. Some smart people out there though. I had to look a couple words on websters. David's a smart smart guy who is very deliberate with his lyrics. I like that, but really it was very graphic. I don't like that even in "secular" music. Personal preference, not preaching. Please don't hurt me... |

| Pedro the Lion – Foregone Conclusions Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Ouch... total burn. I live in the "buckle of the Bible belt" where our Christian radio stations have programs on them teaching how to turn conversations from every day talk to a salvation talk. Forget caring about them! Convert them! Pisses me off... go pedro and their cuss words! | |
| mewithoutYou – Son of a Widow Lyrics | 21 years ago |

"I'll ring your doorbell until You let me in and I can go no longer where 'you' end and "I" begin" I've thought about this line for a while and have come to no good conclusions as to what this means... any ideas? Its also missing the lines "Six of my closest friends dig up the ground, all my accomplishments gently lowered down." |

Oh I love this song... i had a friend eat out with this band at Taco Bell after their Dallas show and I found out that Aaron Weiss, lead singer, only eats out of the trash because we waste so much in America. Makes me love this band even more... anyway, on a more related note, I love the lines: "Or if you'd rather be a window I'll gladly be the frame Reflecting any kind words We'll let in all the blame And ruin our reputation all the same" I think Christians place too much emphasis on what people think of us. "be above reproach" is the common term which substitutes for reputation. Being above reproach is not people thinking your super dooper, its actually being blameless, seeking God's will. In the process you may or may not gain a bad reputation. But is a bad reputation in the world's eyes a bad thing? Seems counter culture to me. Jesus had an absolutely horrible reputation with the people "who mattered" at the time. I see this song as kind of a prophetical warning against the disunity in the church. "Why pluck one string when you can strum the guitar"? If we could put aside our denominational differences and actually become ONE body as the Bible dictates, God could use us SO much more, but we wallow in our differences and create mini bodies instead. |

| This sounds like a Staind song... take that how you want to. Disappointment, but other than this one, I really like this band. Sure sounds like he's talking about God. Are they a Christian band? | |
