Actually I also have to agree with Dianax and brokenwings... not only is this song pointless and not unique, it's just plain annoying. For real, that reccuring, unceasing high pitched beat gets on your nerves really fast. Every time that song comes on I have to change the station. That's just my opinion, don't kill me for it. |

I LOVE THIS SONG!!! and I've noticed that there are two versions... in the hook, one of the versions goes: My oh my oh my oh my o-oh my boo My oh my oh my oh my o-oh my boo but the second version goes: My oh my oh my oh my o-oh my boo My oh my OH my oh my o-oh my boo lol not much of a difference but the second one is so much better. I love the OH part when I'm jammin in my car :) |

| Nelly – My Place Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This song shows the sensitive side that we all know our guys have, and wish we could see just a little more often. Doesn't every girl wish they could have a guy that would be there no matter what, through thick and thin? I think it's beautiful. (and so is Nelly :P) |

zacster, I'm affraid your comment is a little naive. Comet248, I agree with most of what you said, but the fact is that she really was quite a bit older than him. He was a "teenage kid," and she was a "lonely widow woman." It takes a while to get over the loss of a spouse, so if she was truly lonely she had to be fairly old. Add to that the fact that she had "hands of leather" and wore "a dress" that "she hadn't worn in quite a while," and you end up facing the fact that the song is about a boy losing his virginity to a woman who was older and more experienced than he was. Still an incredible song. |

| Garth Brooks – The Dance Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
To me, this song has a tripple meaning. Literally, this guy is looking back at one specific incident - one moment in time. He's remembering a dance he shared with a past love and the feelings he had for her. When you're dancing with someone, you're not thinking about the fact that the song will end and the dance will be over, you're just enjoying the moment for what it's worth. If he had been thinking about the end of the song while they had been dancing, he wouldn't have enjoyed having her in his arms. Secondarily, "the dance" that the couple is sharing is also meant as a metaphor. It represents their entire relationship. It has obviously ended, but if he had realized that before, he wouldn't have enjoyed having her because the whole time he would have been dwelling on what was imminent. It's also meant to show us that we can't be cynical about love. So often we hear the statistics on how many relationships and even marriages actually last (and it's not a very encouraging number), but we can't worry about that because if we do, we won't appreciate the relationships we experience. If we're worried about the fact that they'll end, it's really not worth having that relationship anyway. Thirdly, the dance represents life, and shows us that we need to appreciate what we have while we still have it. Nothing is forever. If we don't live a little and take some risks, we may avoid some bad memories, but think about all the good ones we'll be wasting. To borrow an immortal expression from another of Garth's classics, "standing outside the fire" will get you nowhere. Live for the moment. Enjoy where you are RIGHT NOW because tomorrow you might realize how fortunate you really were. Live life and love life - no regrets. Thank you, Garth, for a true classic. We can all learn from these inspirational and moving lyrics. |
