I think it's "We will swing from Carousel Lights, actually. and I want to know what "If the sun won't set in the road ahead I will leave this car and drive instead" is supposed to mean? Is it--if the world stops turning he'll go anyway? why would he leave the car only to drive? what's he going to drive if he leaves the car? I really love this song anyway, I love the stanza, "Radio and highway lines Are all I have to keep the pace Don't you worry we will find a way To stretch tomorrow into today" really awesome. |

and because she's singing about herself, it almost feels like you're singing about yourself too, or like she's singing about you.... it feels so personal, you can't help but identify yourself the way she indentifies herself. excellent song, once again!!! |

def. one of my favorites, there are so many ways to interpret it to, so every time I hear it I instantly can apply whatever situation I'm in to it. of course, some of her songs are better for some things than others, but still.. .truly magnificent. I too, think her second album is underrated. it's so passionate, and dark, but that makes the lighter songs all the more appreciated. its more approchable, I think, than JLP. don't know why that is... but I like it!!!! |

um ok, to get back to possible song meanings.... the verse "I've got a perfect set of blueprints" I think is talking about how everyone, no matter what your denomination, political party, etc, all of those groups want to convert everyone else to their way of thinking. he's saying he's got all the plans for a perfect human, with all the right thoughts. it might take more than money, it might take time, but whats man without his wealth of time to spend on trying to create someone elses opinions to mold your own? and whats man without his preocupation with money and how far it can get him? I didn't think of the Bush reference in the first stanza before reading the above comments, but I kinda agree. but it doesn't have to be about the current president. it can be about any one who starts war, who has big name friends, who has a way of destroying something- whether it be a reputation or a country. and the zip lock bag... I thought he was just making fun of how set in stone his plans are. cuase he's got everything figured out, so he tucks it away for safe keeping in a zip lock bag. maybe he tucks all his plans into pot, so he never really gets anywhere? I've been thinking about the anger lightbulb line. I mean, it's pretty obvious, he flicks it on and off, but the pathetic part? maybe cause we get so angry at stupid little things? the phosphorescent secret- its easy to connect this to some type of conspiracy theory- the weapons of mass destruction, etc. but I'm not sure thats all it could mean. however, I dont have any ideas besides the world overanalyzing something thats not there. does the world mean the WHOLE world? or just the world in a community "people I know" sense? it probably could be either, he's rather vague. |

| before I saw these guys in concert I had no idea what this was about. but in concert you can see the emotions! I love how this song is tentative. I mean, its not "I love you and lets rejoice" its "I love you but I'm not sure either of us is ready to say it..." its wonderfull!! | |
| Carbon Leaf – Desperation Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm assuming this song is about some girl who the writer needed, 'desperatly', and then she left and 'settled down'. he's asking if her new plan is working... if everything she's doing, everything she's done was fake, just a game. he's exposing all her hypocrisy. | |
| Carbon Leaf – Toy Soldiers Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think this song has a fairly plain meaning, I mean, he explains it in the third section... but I still really like knowing that someone has a very similar expiriance to mine. families breaking up, people becoming what you didn't think they originally were... its all very close to home. thankyou carbon leaf!!! | |
| Dispatch – Elias Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I always thought that the band member who went to africa- chad? met elias, and worked closely with him, and found that elias was so wise, compassionate, caring... there was none of the strife americans have within family units, no divorce... elias wanted more for his sons than he had, and the sons were actually living up to the expectations of the parents. and chad was overpowered with the love and respect in the family and community. Chad knew when he went home he'd probably never hear from elias again, becuase maybe elias can't read or write, and theres no internet, of course. and chads distraught, he wants confirmation that he'll see elias in the next life, in heaven, etc, so he wants to hold his hand one more time... and since elias is such an amazing person, it seems like everyone should know of his death, it seems like it should be on the news, or something. or maybe only he'll know, he'll instincivly fall to the ground becuase some part of him, the part of africa and elias in him is suddenly changed, gone. in such a simplified society, with just sugar cane and the immidiate community, everything seems so much clearer. if you use all your senses in the world, things won't be as hard. "distance is short when your hand carries what your eye found" when your eyes and hands work in unison, when your body is unison with itself some how things arent' as hard? thats my take. |

| Dispatch – Walk With You Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I heard a story about a man and woman who worked in the big city, and they decided, at the start, to do all the overtime they could, just work and work and work so that they could then retire early. so they retired when they were like, 30 or 40 and moved to a ranch in arizona, so they could just relax together, live out their life in peace. this song always reminds me of that story. and agree, it's incredibly beautifull and soothing. | |
| Dispatch – Bridges Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Sometimes it seems like everything is so hard, and takes so much time. its not hard to feel death calling, or the waves redy to sweep you out so you dont' have to deal with anything again. I don't think the childs parents died, those references are metaphorical. he wants a soft motherly hand to sooth him, and he wants his father to show him how to do things, and maybe neither of his actual parents are willing to do that for him. as a child something happened thats happened tons of times before, but he almost gave up, willing to let life just do whatever it wants wiht him. and now he's older, and feeling that drifting through life is almost worse than oblivion. | |
