Randy Newman – Short People Lyrics 18 years ago
An interesting other point of view could be that Newman doesn't mean short people, but short-minded people. Doesn't change his opinion on those people however.

Randy Newman – Short People Lyrics 18 years ago
You were right about
"Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)"

being a key part of the song. However, it's not the "true meaning" of the song. It's more like a cynical imitation of how people talk in one way, and think ridiculous thoughts about other people again right after that. People are hypocrites. Short people can be replaced by gay people, black people, female people, just about any group there is. Newman is holding a mirror, showing us how arrogant and short-minded we are. Why would we be any better than any other of us? Don't judge people too soon.

Manic Street Preachers – If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song is about useless violence in any way. It has to be stopped, because in what scale soever, the safety of the future is at stake.

I got my arm broken last weekend by some jerk. Without any reason. If we tolerate that, he will do the same thing next week. Just an example.

Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics 19 years ago
To answer that question from heylister - How can this be a sad song when it's so uplifting?:

First of all, it doesn't lift me up. But I know what you mean. The music is powerful and impressive, it "rocks". The reason behind it is that the person this song is about, is depressed, he feels his life is like plastic. Emptiness. Yet he tries helplessly to find what he's missing, and he does that by going out, having fun. Hence the uplifting part. What he doesn't see, is that having fun only makes him more depressed. It enlarges the contrast. It's like having fun when you're not happy. Instant happiness, but it's fake.
He's lonely. He tries to drink his problems away, or to find some distraction in any way by going out and partying. He - and the other person in the song -
try to escape from their problems. They try to just walk away from it, even by moving to a quiet little town. Forget about everything. What they don't see is that the problem won't be solved by that. The problem is in themselves. You know he'll always keep movin', you know he's never gonna stop movin'.

Everything in this song, all lines are sad. This song is depressing (to me that's a very positive thing, I need these songs sometimes..they help). I think lots and lots of people live this way, and they aren't even aware of it..

The Feeling – Sewn Lyrics 19 years ago
First of all, the singer has feelings for a girl he doesn´t know how to deal with. He´s willing to do anything for the girl. Anything. But he can´t be just friends with her, because his feelings are just too strong. He´ll probably end up fooling himself and the girl, pretending.
He´s in a nasty situation. He wants to move on, because the whole thing with this girl is driving him mad and it brings him down. But he can´t move on, because he´ll feel like he´s spoiling his chance. He doesn´t want to look back after a while and feel like he has missed the love of his life. There´s no real solution for the situation. I think only the girl could help him..

He´ll choose not to move on. He´ll keep on suffering because he doesn´t want the chance to pass. He would do anything for her love, and so he does. He sacrifices himself just for the possibility of getting her love.
