| The Beatles – With a Little Help from My Friends Lyrics

Is anyone surprised that Ringo doesn't sing "what would you do if I sang out of tune?" When he sings it with his All Starr band that's the lyric he sings. What would you think makes no sense in the context of the song. |

| Ian Hunter – Boy Lyrics

This is Ian revealing his doubts about leaving Mott and going solo. He has lost faith in himself but he has Ronno "a friend says don't look back" and he has Trudi "while a woman helps you write"....as self revealing as the best Lennon. |

I think the biggest hint is in the first line... Mott The Hoople and the game of life. Get that right and the rest falls into place. Mott The Hoople were the first rock band to sell out a weeks shows on Broadway in 1974. They were set to be the "next big thing"... the next Rolling Stones. Then at the height of their fame they broke up. It's about the uncertainty of life, how lives are cut short, Andy, Elvis etc.... about the risks of playing the game of life, what's real, what's not, who's sure about anything... Did they land on the moon? Did Darwin dare say we were descended from apes? Every day is as certain as monopoly, 21, checkers or chess. |

| Pinback – Bloods on Fire Lyrics

This is magic. The loss, the pain... the inexplicable grief that can only be hinted at but not confessed. A secret revealed through poetry. I don't feel the need to see meaning in each line. I feel the song. I feel hurt. I feel lonely.
This song is one of my all time faves and I'm 51 and I'll be damned if I'm not singing along with a tear in my eye in another 20 years. |

| The Delgados – Child Killers Lyrics

Agreed. I think it's one of the greatest Delgados songs. I believe it's about life and relationships crumbling under the weight of drug addiction (gack). Hence their love was the night since all that they shared was the drugs. Yet, as with all great Delgados songs, optimism shines through at the end with 'I'll find peace in another world' |

Often the hardest thing about losing someone is losing that bit of yourself they take with them. So all you ask is that they don't tell anybody the secrets you told them. Another gem from LW. She always finds an angle nobody has thought of before. |

Such a short song. So beautiful. I've always felt it was deaths release also. If this song doesn't put a lump in your throat you're already with Freddie. Say hi for me. |

One of the greatest songs about nothing ever written. Totally impressionist work that only succeeds if you don't think about it and just feel it. |

Spamuell has done a fine job analysing and dissecting. I tend to view it as you would a Monet, as an impressionist piece. And for me it works brilliant on a subliminal level. If the end repeats went on forever I wouldn't even notice. Transcends analysis. |

Yes, indeed it's been far too long a wait, but I agree it's an impossibly delicate song from Elton and Bernie. One of the few times they came together to achieve perfection. |
