"Angels are dead people right... baby angels would be a dead baby" - SpineofaJellyFish Wait no.. angels are NOT dead people. Angels are actually their own species. God made humans and god made angels. Angels are the divine beings that live in heaven with God and humans are the beings created in God's image on Earth. The angel Gabriel was never a person. A lot of people always misunderstand that concept. ANGELS ARE NOT DEAD PEOPLE. It makes sense... look it up if you dont believe me. Sorry. |

GOD DAMN SHUT UP ALL OF YOU! You guys suck... why is that all of the people who are into rock or are punkers or whatever the hell you call yourselves come on to this page and just constantly bash the crap out of rap? If you don't want to listen to it then dont, or if you don't like it for a specific reason then just say so. Don't just come on and say RAP SUCKS. I'm into a lot of rock bands too but not everyone who listens to rap actually thinks they are real thugs or are like yeah yo I can relate. Maybe they DO want to listen to it because of the beat. Emo is great but rap sure does beat the hell out of it sometimes. At some points its just better to get out of your seat and start dancing instead of wasting your tears on some girl that just dumped you... Leave it alone, rap and rock are both great at times. Its kind of fun to listen to rap and it can be meaningful or memorable to listen to rock. And for all you punkers who go on this page just to make fun of rap, then listen to someone who made a comment on a Dashboard page once stating to leave their music alone cuz they rarely make comments about how punk rock shit kids think theyre so different and special because they "go against the flow." |

| Modest Mouse – Heart Cooks Brain Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
People not everything is about loving a girl or falling in love especially Modest Mouse stuff.. I think its just about him trying to figure out who he is, what life is, etc. A reflection of life possibly? my brain's the burger and my heart's the coal on this life that we call home the years go fast and the days go so slow how the hell does anyone get "loving a girl" out of this??? or any of the lines?? This is just his reflection about life in general. And I agree with barnacles, its not that catchy and I dont think any of us will know the real meaning. Sometimes people just write poetry or songs for themselves- just to get out the thoughts in their head. |

Well I think I wouldve probably really liked this song the same way I do with all other Dashboard Confessional songs. If it wasnt for one flaming homo who decided to share with me what he does in the morning with his boyfriend to this song in the background, I guess I wouldve been able to stand listening to it. But my god what a picture this song gives me now. And I even associate the lines with a gay meaning...."The harder I push the further I fall Well you don't mind me being headstrong"..."What is it you need? Is it within me?" Omg omg omg homoerroticism!! Im freaking myself out, see and this is just why I cant listen to this song any more unfortunetely. Eeeeek. |

| Dashboard Confessional – If You Can't Leave It Be, Might as Well Make It Bleed Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Wow about cutting yourself? I never thought of it that way. Maybe because Im so used to Dashboards other albums about lost loves, heartbreaks, etc...but maybe you are right. Still, I have another interpretation of this song. I think it is about one person (the narrarator) taking advantage of an inferior, even weaker person. At first Chris talks about how the person is surprised to find out the narrarator is toying with her emotions. The narrarator announces it blantantly and doesnt seem sorry. It was a faultless execution that had been carefully planned out. The narrarator was able to take advantage of the other person because she was vulnerable and weak, just a willing cadaver. The narrarator cuts her open, takes her apart emotionally, then puts her back together and convinces her its fine. A cycle. Cuts leaving creases might even be a metaphor...maybe she is looked at as the neighborhood whore. Or someone who is known to be vulnerable in situations. She doesnt need to say a word for people to know just who she is. Chris even makes a direct reference to the narrarator who admits to being a "wretch" and had nothing better to do than to use the weaker person because "if you cant let it be, MIGHT AS WELL make it bleed." And basically the rest of the song is explaining how unopinionated the other person was and how easily she let the narrarator fool and take advantage of her. She's bruising too easy, falling behind, and no one is even waiting for her. Not even the narrarator, who was the person who decieved her in the first place. The narrarator then goes on to admit how he will continue using her ("cant save the rest from me") and she will STAY vulnerable, weak and an inferior to him ("you were not made to stand and fight, theres something better wrong with you") It is pretty sad, but I really think that is what Chris is talking about. Just such a weak and pathetic person. Cant help but to seize the opportunity right? But I do think of the self-harm interpretation now. Thats interesting. It makes sense. Well I love to argue about song meanings haha so post your opinions or just im me about it. thanks! |

| Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| okay so talking shit about a pretty sunset is pretty self-explanatory, doesnt everyone agree? the lyrics arent as complicated as some other modest mouse lyrics can be. the posts above have actually interpreted it pretty well considering the point is pretty obvious. what does get annoying is OVER-ANALYZING...like that pollution thing? how many people even know about that????? Over analyzing songs just butcher their meanings and stuff.. I can always be wrong but lets go with the more logical explanation. | |

| Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Hmm yeah but it kind of obviously does lol, it is likely that a caucasian male from Isaaquah practices or is EXPOSED TO some form of Christianity. Just a word printed on your passport? Well America has a culture of its own. And most Americans stick to it since they are brought up in it ... although there are a few people that may convert to some random other religion, I highly doubt Isaac Brock was raised in a family of Buddhists. (also because of all the other songs he has written on the topic of Christianity as I mentioned and listed in my other post) And thats what I even said before... I may be wrong but its very LIKELY. So yeah- I do have reason to believe that he had a Christian experience besides the fact that he is all American. I'm guessing that is not that sad afterall. | |
| Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Okay I've got an explanation of my own. Well the first part of this song is just stating how the world is pretty shitty and very troubled (which fits in place later on about the world that had just been created but now its ending in chaos) The third planet is OBVIOUSLY Earth (and not some dead baby) since Earth is the third planet from the sun. So we're all so sure we're being watched from the sky by an almighty god (eye), and when you die you'll meet him in heaven. And now...well I think this part starting from "your heart felt good..." to "...how the world will end" is referring to the beginning of time and how the world was created in a Christian point of view. The first human's heart felt good, although it was black and nothing more than mere wood. I think this is the start of betrayal towards God, remember Adam and Eve? They betrayed God and banned from the Garden of Adam and Eve and now are shivering and realizing that they are naked. Or even if you dont think its about Adam and Eve, when man was first created, no matter what your religion is, he and she were outside and naked and probably cold because of no clothing or shelter. Now baby-angels fly around them (suggesting the presence of some form of god-angels=heaven=god- most likely Christianity) reminding Adam+Eve they used to be three when they still had no sin and were with God. And thats how the world began. The next part is basically saying that when the world (the third- as in the third planet which I explained earlier) was created, we didnt know what the Earth was. Was it a son, was it a daughter? It was just a large land mass that God decided to create...before he even created life. Maybe Isaac is reflecting on the mysteries of the universe and the Earth. And the whole animals swimming in our body part is about how wonderful and amazing the life in our mere bodies can be. How many millions of cells and random parts and life forms live in us? The water (blood) in our body that so many little animals and cells and stuff swim in? Our own oceans. Again, the universe that is shaped like the Earth part is just reflecting how after all this- after taking so much time to create the world just to have man rebel against God anyway was pointless. It might as well have not been created because in the end were just gonna end up right where we were. Keep in mind, Modest Mouse fans, that some lines in poetry and songs are just put in to rhyme or to go along with the beats. Unneccessary lines made to keep the flow. Dont actually analyze every single line that Modest Mouse sings. It'll get you nowhere. oes that make sense to anyone? Sometimes you just put in lines to keep the poem or song going, just to rhyme, or just to get to another point... And I may be wrong but the reason I chose to believe that this song is about the creation of the world through the Christian view is because this is a topic Isaac Brock usually touches. Think about it- he always says he is an athiest but I think its because he probably had some kind of experience with some form of christianity. Look at his other songs- "Jesus Christ was an only child", "Bukowski"- (which has a few references to a story in the bible), "Styrofoam Boots/Its all nice on ice", "Doin the Cockroah"... This is not the only reason I say its from a christian perspective, but someone did mention Isaac Brock is ALL AMERICAN. Now what other religion do all american people practice? Especially westerners? Okay this is getting way too long but I just disagreed with a lot of the interpretations posted here... Thank you!!! Feel free to im me to disagree with me!! We'll have a nice chat! *bows* |

| Modest Mouse – Never Ending Math Equation Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think this song is just special to the person who sung and wrote it...we dont always have to find a meaning for every single song we hear. No need in translating and posting our opinions on a website since there are so many interpretations and because you never really know what was going through Isaac's head when he was writing this song. (maybe he was reflecting on his religion and purpose in life? maybe he's talking about a personal experience that only he would understand? maybe he was tripping off on acid haha?) When we just associate the song with our personal experiences, and relate it SOMEHOW- no matter in what way to our lives, then thats when the song really achieves its purpose. | |
