| Grouper – Clearing Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| These aren't exactly the easiest lyrics to transcribe, with all the whispering and overlapping text, so suggestions are welcome! | |
| Perfume Genius – All Waters Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
@SweetCheeks2 ....Or fear of people who think that the supreme creator of the universe frowns upon aspects of homosexuality and feel the need to express that opinion. "God's teaching on homosexuality".... Are you sure no humans were involved? |
|
| Mount Eerie – Through the Trees Pt 2 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Last verse: a pile of trash | |
| Azealia Banks – 212 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is about the obsession and anxiety caused by the singular attention to oral stimulation of the female genitalia by the singer, which is inevitably transferred to her prospective sexual partners and subsequently intensified and magnified by her extremely high quality standards, which bring about an element of risk and daring for said partners, for the lyrics seem to suggest that failure to please her virtually insatiable urges is a very really possibility. | |
| Great Lake Swimmers – Merge, A Vessel, A Harbour Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Some remarks, because I suspect these lyrics are inaccurate in places. For a moment, then goodbye (I hear "combine(d)") Hold her eyes (I hear "Polarized") and Crying out loud at the untold (I hear something like "are ... absorbed") |
|
| Aloha – Weekend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The meaning seems pretty straightforward to me. It's about a guy who temporarily visits his girlfriend (to be? -> "Tried not to get my hopes up, tried not to call it anything") only during the weekends, and who has to adjust to normal life again during the workweek. Thus the "Try to take the feeling with me, my head is full and my hands are empty." He's convinced he's going to be for her for always ("Everyday I'll have sunshine, burned into my eyes"), but until then "half the time it's a half-life, half the year we don't see daylight." | |

The "La la la la" in the first chorus should be: "But I'm not alone" :-/ |
|
| Radiohead – Harry Patch (In Memory Of) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Can you/anyone confirm this? | |
| Kings of Convenience – My Ship Isn't Pretty Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Very nice, quiet song bij the Kings. I have some corrections: "suburbans" should be "suburbs". "the car go lights in our lamps / they're weight is so heavy" should be "the cargo lies in our lamps(?) / their weight is so heavy". Fits in better with the theme of the text. "It underplate on the waves" should be "it undulates on the waves". Makes better sense, because "to undulate" means "to move in waves or with a smooth, wavelike motion", according to the dictionary. I also hear "and crashes the water" instead of "and cautions the water", but that could be just me... ;) |

| Bon Iver – RE: Stacks Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| melancholyjen, fixed it for you. Just because you have the word "melancholy" in your username ;) | |
| Cap'n Jazz – Puddle Splashers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Bob Ross (R.I.P.) always used to say in his tv show: "There are no mistakes, only happy accidents." | |
| The Field Mice – It Isn't Forever Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"I long for us to be best friends" Yeah, sure! ;) |
|
| Gravenhurst – Nicole Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Haha Seymour, right on (although we could do without the "fucking"). I think the meaning is quite obvious. The narrator's love life is going to hell and he wants to confront God/Fate (the captain, for the metaphorically challenged) to find out when he's finally going to be happy ("when the next wave is the last wave"), and if he's in control of his own life at all ("just who is steering and who's merely holding on"). |

| The Radio Dept. – Keen On Boys Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
@fishquawk Very insightful, thanks ;D |
|
| Iron & Wine – Jezebel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Okay, listen: it's about HYPOCRISY. Every group of people has its beautiful woman who is admired by many and at the same time despised because of that. Romantically or sexually active women are still depicted as sluts by society (read: by jealous women and weak, hypocritical males) while their equally active male lovers simply walk away with no problems. This sh!t happens everywhere, just think about it. It's a fine line between being loved and devoured by dogs. |
|
| The Sea and Cake – Sporting Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Is this about a long-time group of friends going to the beach, thinking about one friend who fell away? I don't really care for The Sea and Cake's music, but this song really stands out. A+++++ Great track! Would listen again! |
|
| Björk – Cocoon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Hmm, I think I'm pretty jealous of the guy who can call himself Bjork's lover. She's something special, alright! |
|
| Hood – End of One Train Working Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I've got no personal connection with this song, although its melancholia suits me very well :). I think it's a unique piece of music, hypnotic and intriguing. I've never heard something like it, not even by Hood themselves. | |

Sex. That what's it about. /no clue |

| Check out Mark Kozelek's acoustic version on the Little Drummer Boy 2CD.... pretty different from this version, but absolutely mind-blowing! I love it. | |
| Piano Magic – You Can Never Get Lost (When You've Nowhere to Go) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The saddest song I know. This person lost all his dreams and now there's nothing left to live for. It's great! |
|
| Modest Mouse – Four Fingered Fisherman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I like Mark Kozelek's acoustic version, never heard the original, though :-s | |
| Collective Soul – Shine Lyrics | 18 years ago |

|
This song is something special, alright! I wonder if this lyrics are accurate... hard to check, though. |
|
| Sufjan Stevens – The Dress Looks Nice on You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I hear him sing "I can *seed* a lot of life in you" after the line "I can see a fireside turn blue". It's quite subtle and hard to hear, but it makes a lot of sense imho, because he seems to be singing about making love and maybe starting a family. (because "fireside turn blue" = fire becomes blue when it's hotter, "see a lot of life in you" = children?) |
|
| Red House Painters – Down Colorful Hill Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| what can this song be about? a love inevitably coming to an end? dreading the moment it is worded? whatever the case, it sure isn't a happy song. which makes it all the better ;) | |
| Red House Painters – Cruiser Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Check out the acoustic version on Kozelek's 'Little Drummer Boy' live cd... it's so different and imho much better! | |

|
| Piano Magic – The Canadian Brought Us Snow Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Very nice song, no idea what the lyrics are about, though. Travelling? By boat? As a child? Anyway, nice to see the name of the city I practically live in. Many of PM's songs just have this mysterious atmosphere... I like!!!!11~ |

| Damien Jurado – Walk With Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| A sad, short song, accompanied by a nice piano melody. I'm not sure what to think of the (police/fire/cockpit?) scanner... | |
| Red House Painters – Revelation Big Sur Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
buenos, you're right about it possibly being the best unknown song. it's a sort of privilege to know it at all :). great melody, great heartfelt lyrics... i think i got a more correct version here, tho (look closely for differences): i can't make anything of why the brightest light faded or how you slept a sleepless slumber and through the rhythm of the timeless season and you are the dark on my soul and it's your love that i steal and you're my cuts that won't close and this i'm certain and this i'm certain and this i'm certain i don't see anything through all your worries and the worst in people and you're the builder of your own high temple and that's the magic of your mind and you're the reason that i'm down but you're the promise that i found and you're all that i got who's the meanest and who's a genius and who's mine i can't take anything and from the bed you lay and wonder and from the morning come like thunder it's the downfall of your time and you're the dark of our home but still the home that i feel won't let up or let go and this i'm certain and this i'm certain and this i'm certain |

| Ryan Adams – Wonderwall (Oasis cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| does anyone know what a "wonderwall" is? | |
| Matt Pond PA – Summer Is Coming Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| this song is about longing for love in the summer, somewhat naively, because -like burningtonight said- it's sadly an unanswered love... i think the song catches that sense of wild anticipation very well. | |
| Underworld – Two Months Off Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the almost naive sense of happiness of this song is quite moving. w4sert, i think it's definitely about someone very radiant, who makes you happy. | |
| Barry White – What Am I Gonna Do with You? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song makes me so emotional, it makes me wanna cry, the lyrics are so profound and deep and... nah. |
