Great film.

I think it's a great song. Except for the sexy pig bit. WTF?

Sandi Thom – What If I'm Right? Lyrics 17 years ago
Utterly awful. A childish, ignorant, self-centred perspective on what an ideal relationship is supposed to be like. I didn't think it possible, but this song is actually worse than Punk Rocker.

Cheap Trick – Surrender Lyrics 17 years ago
Also, it is fantasically used in the Playstation 2 game, Guitar Hero 2. It's astonishingly good fun to play along with this song.

Dubstar – Not So Manic Now Lyrics 17 years ago
I took the "My puny structure of an ageing OAP" line to be metaphorical rather than literal, but either way, a moving song.

Robbie Williams – Rudebox Lyrics 17 years ago
If it's supposed to be satire or parody, it's far too subtle.

Robbie Williams has done some good music, but this is garbage. Only Robbie Williams can get away with this? Evidently not, because the song is still shit.

If this song even charts, it will be an insult to every hard working musician out there.

I don't usually post critical comments, but this song is just too bad to escape criticism.

Jason Mraz – Clockwatching Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the song is certainly about making love, but it's a perfect example of Jason Mraz's songwriting skills. Most songs about a similar subject would take a blatant approach to things and the lyrics would often end up being trite and/or crude.

Jason Mraz, on the other hand, uses wordplay and metaphor to get his point across and couples it with a great melody, allowing you to enjoy the song on more than one level. Either as just a good song, or a song with deeper meaning if you want to look for it.

Perhaps I am reading too much into it.

Either way, it's a great song.

Dubstar – Not So Manic Now Lyrics 18 years ago
I may be way off base here, but to me this song would appear to be about a young women trying to raise a child that was born of rape.

It seems to tell the story of a woman who was just minding her business in her flat in a towerblock when a man, posing as a salesman, forced his way in and raped her (illustrated in the second verse).

She becomes pregnant and is trying to raise the child while coping with the emotional trauma from the event. The line;

"And she's lifting and throwing to the wall
The post-natal harmonies of youth."

I think represents her 'lifting and throwing to the wall' the joy that should accompany a child. She can't get the event out of her mind, but is slowly coping.

"Not so manic now".

A very moving song, even if my interpretation is way off.

It's a good song, but it owes more than a little to David Bowie's 'Queen Bitch'.

Excellent song. The Killers totally ripped it off in their song Mr. Brightside though.

I really like this track. It has a Radiohead kind of atmosphere to it, that same kind of style, it works surprisingly well.

Keane – Everybody's Changing Lyrics 19 years ago
"This song is about standing up for yourself" is what Tom said at the recent gig in Bristol, but i'm not quite sure how that works. I have heard other interpretations claiming to be official from the band that say pretty much what Flame900 says, it's a song about your friends are going places while you feel you are stuck and not making much progress.

"This is a song about two normal people who fall in love, who love eachother, and fuck it all up"

Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades Lyrics 19 years ago
I bought the album Deja Entendu on the strength of this song alone, which is something I personally try never to do as it usually leads to disappointment. However, in this case it paid off. After hearing this song properly, I thought Brand New were one of those few bands out there with something special. I am pleased to say that in this instance I was not mistaken.

This is certainly one of the highlights of the album and the meaning has been explained enough already. I just want to say that the album is full of lyrical greatness such as this. Great stuff.

Manic Street Preachers – The Love Of Richard Nixon Lyrics 19 years ago
While I do like political and social commentary in music, this song does confuse me a little. I'm not sure what it's trying to say. At times it seems very pro-Nixon, at other times there seems to be a bit of sarcasm, implying an anti-Nixon stance. And the general message of the song? I dunno.

I agree that 1985 might have been a better choice for a first single. But, lyrical content aside, Nixon does have a very poppy feel to it and should sell well.

Lostprophets – Sway Lyrics 19 years ago
Awesome outro. After the heaviness of some of the the previous tracks on the album (We Are Godzilla...) this track is great calming, "chill-out", exit to a fine CD. Great stuff.

Hoobastank – Same Direction Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about religion. About somebody unsure about their faith.

"Whenever I step outside, somebody claims to see the light
It seems to me that all of us have lost our patience."

This line refers to the way everyone has their own ideas on religion, everyone has their own beliefs.

"'Cause everyone thinks they're right, and nobody thinks that there just might
Be more than one road to our final destination"

This line refers to the way that everyone believes that their stance on religion is the correct one. They refuse to believe that there are other religions that may hold just as much validity to their own.

The chorus:

"But I'm not ever going to know if I'm right or wrong
'Cause we're all going in the same direction
And I'm not sure which way to go
Because all along
We've been going in the same direction"

refers to the singers frustration at the state of things. He feels he will never know whether his choice of faith is the right one, or the wrong one. He believes that we are heading the same way in the end anyway, so how will we ever know whether we were right or not in our choices?

"I'm tired of playing games, of looking for someone else to blame
For all the holes in answers that are clearly showing
For something to fill the space, was all of the time I spent a waste?
'Cause so many choices point the same way I was going"

I believe this part of the song refers to the way religions are attacked by critics (questions like, "if God made the world, who made God?") but never really have any rebuke other than "you just need to have faith". This lack of certainty frustrates him and has led him to investigate other religions, and he has discovered that alot of them are very, very similar. Worship of a supreme being, rules on how to live a good life etc. He believes that no matter which religion he chose, he would basically be in the same situation he's in at the moment ("'Cause so many choices point the same way I was going").

As the song comes to a close, the final verse sums up his feelings.

"So why does there only have to be one correct philosophy?
I don't want to go and follow you just to end up like one of them."

He is asking why there must be only one religion. Each religion believes that they are correct and everyone else is wrong. He just wants to know why and is making a statement that he doesn't want to follow a religion just because everyone else (family and friends perhaps) do so. He wants it to be a personal choice.

"And why are you always telling me what you want me to believe?
I'd like to think that I can go my own way and meet you in the end."

This is the closing verse of the song is basically asking people to just let him choose his own path. Don't try to force religious opinions on him, it's a personal choice that he and he alone must make. He'll just go his own way, and see them on the other side.

Phew. Well, that's how it sounded to me.
