A change in musical sound in itself is not selling out. What IS selling out, is changing from good, deep content and mature sound to cheap, meaningless stuff that appeases the young MTV crowd because it makes more money. |

Rob Thomas has absolutely jumped the shark. Why did he feel he needed to venture into that MTV Justin Timberlake-sounding synthesized pop crap? I guess for one of those pop songs its not that bad, but why did he need to switch into that genre instead of staying with the mature and understandable genre of adult alternative? Gag.
As for the meaning, it seems pretty self-explanatory for the lyrics. No deep meanings here. Congratulations Rob, you sold out. |

I thoght that this song was just about him having a passion to dance and hit the clubs or something, and when he says "burn this city" he means that he's going to go clubbing and a night on the town and whatnot. That was my impression when I first heard it. |

This song was actually written by Paul, one of the members of the band. He was writing about how he was somewhat jealous of Rob getting all the attention of the band and all the fame, and how for one night it would be good just to be Rob and bask in the glory of fame or something. Rob saw the lyrics and decided to make it a song. Which means that when Rob sings this song, he's singing to/about himself, from Paul's point of view. Kinda creepy. |
