Massive Attack – Risingson Lyrics 21 years ago
Massive Attacks best song bar none. The composition is fantastic but the lyrics make the song. 3D and Marshal find themselves at a disgusting club (disgusting meaning empty of feeling). As sarcastically as Lydon, 3D calls all the scensters "good-people," which make him feel like he is not progressing in age, but regressing again with every chant of "Toy-like people make me boy-like."
Brilliant.
One of the best social comments made in a long time. And made by one of the best bands of the decade, What a treat.

The New Pornographers – The Fake Headlines Lyrics 21 years ago
A Masterpiece of production more than the actual lyrics, but they fit well. Contains a great line "And when you see the bruises on my legs from kicking pills."
That always stuck with me for some reason.
Dammit. I've always had an affection for bands that have more hooks than substance.

Justine's assessment of her relationship with Suede's Brett Anderson.
Not too shabby.

Dammit people!
It's just another break-up song.

M – Pop Muzik Lyrics 21 years ago
Greatest song about PoP music ever made.
Robin Scott went to the same school as Malcolm McLaren.
The template for all that music in the 80's you love so much.

Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics 21 years ago
Probably the closest any pop song has come to at realizing THE BIG QUESTION- the Meaning of life.

Sex Pistols – Bodies Lyrics 21 years ago
Yeah, Johnny couldn't give a Shit either way. Johnny always said- "Can't bring morals into the picture for abortion. Because it's bad Morals to bring a child into the world and not give a toss about it."

The images are mostly from Johnny's early childhood memories when from a very early age Johnny had to clean up his mothers numerous and constant misscarrages. Frightening stuff for a child I'm sure.

Eminem – Just Lose It Lyrics 21 years ago
One of the only times that a mainstream hip-hop song has homosexual undertones. Is Em really beginning to realize the fact that most of mainstream pop stars, hip-hop and otherwise, act "kinda gay?" even if they say things wildly homophobic. Good show. Lyrically it is very sharp (even if the music is same old same old.)
The song achieves everything a good pop-song should. Is it a revelation? nope, but still memorable.

Nothing better than some S&M in pop song.

The Pogues – A Pair of Brown Eyes Lyrics 21 years ago
Shane is an ace songwriter and this track is truely proof. Probably one of the saddest pop songs to ever chart (even if it was only 72 in UK charts).

Primal Scream – Swastika Eyes Lyrics 21 years ago
Actually boys and girls.
the song is a rant against Isreal's government and their current policies. The title claims that the country has lost it's way from what it was originally formed from- a refuge for those who had escaped and suffered from the regime of the Nazis. Bobby is basically comparing Israel with their greatest enemy- the third Reich.

Blur – Popscene Lyrics 21 years ago
Britpop's first single? Yep. This is basically the single that started/predicted the whole dismal thing. All the elements where in place (partying and following others) and Damon saw this before anyone else did. Clever lad. Too clever. The Oasis fan's couldn't stand Blur's intellectuallism and one of the most overblown periods in music history passed by at light speed.

Blur – Sunday Sunday Lyrics 21 years ago
Probably the greatest example of social satire in a song since Ray Davies. Damon was in the zone during the entire "Modern Life is Rubbish" album. He should of carried on writing these kind of songs instead of those awful social-comment character comedies that he began to write on Parklife and which reached it's peak on The Great Escape (at best a very average record).

Heroin. Thats about it really.

Blur – Death of a Party Lyrics 21 years ago
Yep, this was Blur basically saying that Britpop was a waste of time (despite having predicted it with Popscene). Being one of the originators of the genre, and lets admit, basically the godfathers of Britpop, when they say that Britpop (the party) is over, it simply is.
