Scientists believe that the sun will eventually run out of fuel (like every star) unleashing massive solar flares that will ensure the destruction of earth. This song may be offering a glimpse into what our future will look like before the sun essentially explodes. I think this song very much relates to the general themes of deliver us, decay, destruction, and apathy. Fire in the skies portends to the future after civilization has been undone by the hand of man on the eve of of the final day of existence. |

This song seems mostly about relinquishing the apathetic comforts of youth in order find meaning in life. It is easy to simply not care, but to immerse yourself in struggle for your passions is what is ultimately fulfilling and beneficial to a seemingly indifferent society. This song has a beautiful chorus and the lyrics remind me of As I Lay Dying's song Through Struggle. |

Sometimes we live our lives with the goal of finding validation or approval from others at the expense of our true hopes and dreams. This disconnection from the self is what the "ocean between us" refers to. |

you know what? i understand that bands will change their sound and grow more melodic and mainstream with every sucessful album. i am happy for AFI's sucess unlike a lot of their older fans. However, what really bothers me are the lyrics. I used to feel a sense of strength when I heard songs from their early albums. There was a general theme of perseverence and again strength in those albums. The newer stuff is just so weak. The lyrics view the world and others negatively, however, that element of perseverence and strength to overcome has vanished. People call AFI emo now and I can see why. Just compare the lyrics to "strength through wounding" or any song from black sails to any song from the new album and you will see what i mean. feeling miserable is not cool, overcoming it is. |

I was bummed when I first heard this song. I loved black sails and the art of drowning, but this song sounded like something bon jovi would have written. once i listened to a few times i grew to really like it. the music is layered and warm but the lyrics are what really got me interested. I think this song has to do with the decision one has made to take his or her life. This song is set in those hours leading up to the act of taking one's life. I have never tried suicide (but i hear all the kids love it) but i would imagine that every sense would be hightened and every stimulus would be deafening , for example insects singing. The white light that begs to be colored (imbrued) is what immediatly follows the fatal act. I dont want to break down every line, but I just think this song deals with not so much the act of suicide but the feelings and senses associated with it shortly before he is "erased". |

This song deals with existential issues. The title of the song alone denotes this. We all have the ability to do anything we want at any given moment but fear stifles the range of behaviors, hence the title "blinded by fear". Some of the lines in the song dealing with "casting aside chains" show that the singer wants to break free from the fear and live his life according to how he wants. Also, there is a reference made to the novel The Dice Man in the liner notes. In the Dice Man, a guy goes around using dice as a way to make decisions in his life rather than his instincts or beliefs which is contrary to how most people live and try and control their lives. I hate it when bands write songs about achieving existential freedom. I mean its easy for them to tell you to "do what you want", they are doing what they want. I think about the mother of 5 working at taco bell for minimum wage; she has mouths to feed and cant do what she wants. So fuck off with your beliefs about fear and responsibility, the system is stronger than us all. Cool song though. |

its about impossible love. the writer holds this person in such high esteem but the love is not recepricated (did i spell that right?) thus, it is only dream. when the dream or fantasy ends he is back to his normal boring life. just as when a film ends and the screen returns to the color gray. i especially enjoy the line "bathed in your radiance, i melt" it shows that the object of his affection has power over him, which leads me to believe the other person does not feel the same love or affection to the writer. |

its "let me haunt the scent of your pillow" jeeeez. synesthesia is when the only way an ex lover seemingly exists is through your memories because they have completely left your life and dissapeared. also synesthesia is a condition usually acheived via hullucinogenic drugs, ie. hearing colors. |

ive read interviews where mr.havok speaks of this song being a song of detatchment. it cant help me think that the whole song is about the moments leading up to a suicide. the flash of light could be seen as the gun shot. and it is the death that swallows. "all erased" may refer to others whom have taken their own lives. |
