Travis – Funny Thing Lyrics 16 years ago
A relationship with the other person always in a funny mood. Always always always in a bloody funny mood with you.

Just because (the sky is blue, as good an excuse as any)...

Grandaddy – This Is How It Always Starts Lyrics 16 years ago
athopewehang, hope you survided your whiskey!

I have loved this song and shows to me the break down (but inevitable?) of a long and steady relationship. Started off so well but in the end it shatters and the truth shows itself. This really does not need citing as the evidence is so clear here...

Would have loved for the band (or ny great band for that matter) to have finished with this song and as the instruments fade away the musicians each walk off till finally the keyboardist is left there, all alone in the spotlight.
The stage goes black and that's it. No more Grandaddy :( The crowd shout for an encore and behold, thus, the bad re-emerge! They all in turn take a bow to the audience to acknowledge their thanks but somewhere, by gosh, somehow, a cream pie is thrown! NO, someone is hit on the face! A cream pie fight ensues and what turns from a tragic final ending moment now is interrupted (after long moments of carnage) by a single chord played by one person - 'You give a little love' from the final of Bugsy Malone then finishes their set and by God, was that not sadder and more memorable still?

Anyone actually know what this means?

Sob sob sob...

Electric Light Orchestra – Shangri-La Lyrics 17 years ago
Shangri-la being of course a mythical paradise; a good band called Grandaddy finally split up and the last song (hidden track) reprises the end of this song only with the main singer singing 'I'll never return, to Shangri-la' meaning that his dream with his band and his music is at an end.

Very sad.

Tom McRae – It Ain't You Lyrics 17 years ago
Tom mentioned live that there are three ways to break up with a girl friend.
I can't quite remember them but they both ended up badly (like having your burned clothes thrown out on the lawn!!) so the third way was to write that song and sing it to her :-D

Tragic really. He then said 'But I still love her...'!

Kansas – Dust In The Wind Lyrics 17 years ago
I fell in love with this song when it was played in an episode of Highlander (The Darkness) when MacLeod's fiance and long term girlfriend was murdered...
Being an immortal and seeing yet another loved one slip away, this song seemed deeply fitting.
They played the whole song in a montage dedicated to her Character and ended up with Mac selling up and walking off (yet again)...

Catatonia – That's All Folks Lyrics 17 years ago
Thanks for the info, Lottie!

Yeah this is my favourite too and has been since I was given the single, many many years ago!

The best way to end a show or an album I'd imagine!

One of my favourites when played live - anyone want to chance upon a song meaning?

Elbow – Newborn Lyrics 17 years ago
At V2004, Guy dedicated this to everyone who had lost their virginities at the festival.

If that helps...?

Elbow – Forget Myself Lyrics 17 years ago
When I saw them in Manchester last year, Guy was kinda asking the audience to forgive him. He really came across as asking Manchester to forgive him...

Placebo – Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
There is an idea (quite a good one too) about this song being about a woman's orgasm. Like the guy doesn't know whether he is hurting her and she wants him to feel how good it is for her:

'C'mon, baby, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience, oh...'

So to hear Placebo sing it makes me grin. IF I go with that of course...!

Shangri-La - a mythical place of beauty. A paradise if you will, and with leaving his band, he'll never again return :(

Elbow – Grace Under Pressure Lyrics 17 years ago
Perhaps my favourite Elbow song and rightly so. If I'm feeling overwhelmed I often think about this song and it gives me strength :)

Damien Rice – The Blower's Daughter Pt. 2 Lyrics 18 years ago
This is by far one of the nicest and saddest songs I've heard Damien Rice play. It doesn't sound like the 1st part and sometimes when he plays it live he plays it along to a few chords of Radiohead's Creep... Very bitter and damn, do I love it so.

James Blunt – No Bravery Lyrics 18 years ago
Without adding names, I thought 'He' was Satan acting through Man.

Whoever the man may be - similar to Dire Straits's Brother's in Arms...

Freddie Mercury – Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow Lyrics 20 years ago
Hand me the razor blades now...!

This is the saddest love song I have ever heard, and Mercury's voice, as usual, is sheer poetry in sound.

So so very sad...

Dire Straits – Brothers In Arms Lyrics 20 years ago
Hallelujah (Cohen's song wanderfully reworked for Jeff) is also one of my favourite classics.

However, has anybody heard the Dire Straits Live album On The Night? They close with Brother's in Arms and in my opinion, along with most of Dire Strait's songs, this is a better rendition! Try it.

Very moving :)
