| Dido – This Land Is Mine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is her telling her love interest when making love to her, give her respect. Respect her body. 'Land' being her body. 'This land is mine, but I'll let you rule, I'll let you navigate and demand'. - This is my body but I'm opening it up for you to give me some lovin'.. But one exception.. 'Just as long as you know, this land is mine', just as long as they respect her body and don't take advantage of her. 'Ohh I'm ready to let you IN' how more blatant could this be?... I'm ready to let you come into me... |

| AFI – 37mm Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think has something to do with someone that helps people, a counsellor, or a mentor or something. Or someone more idolic? like Jesus? Though I'm not christian, and I'm not implying that this is another religious themed song. But the reason I think this is because of things like- "bring your secrets too me" some teenager confessing their troubles and confinding in the guy. "give me your hand and I'll let you feel the wounds they put in me", explaining how everybody confides in the guy, and their troubles become his troubles. This is further emphasised by "your sins into me", which is a link to 'Silver and Cold' of course. The guy is thinking who will help him when he is the helper? from "who will heal me?". "every time I try to pacify i fall", a pacifier being something you sucked on, he's helping people, sucking the troubles from them, but its ulitmately killing himself, because nobody cares for him. "if you keep killing me how can I keep absolving". If we expand the idea further, it might not be a mentor or counsellor, but simply a parent? a parent trying to help their son or daughter out? I'm not too sure on the title 37mm, could mean anything. It could be seen as 37 000 000, by turnging the 'm's' into 000's by roman numerals. But that doesn;t really support my other theory. 37million... hmmm... |

| AFI – Summer Shudder Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Fantastic song, one of my favourites off the new album. I'm not too sure about my interpretation yet, but when they say "summer rain" I think of a rainbow. Rainbows need rain and sunlight. Just a thought. |

| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Dosed Lyrics | 19 years ago |

mountain- mountain of drugs eg. heroin. The girl not nessessarily died, but forgot about her past life. Became so secluded and addiccted to drugs, thus, in a sense did die. He wanted her 'life'. He loved her and wanted her just to be happy, and for her to love him back. But she wasn't willing. The 'canyon'. A syringe. A metaphor for a syringe. He went into that habit before, countless times, but he knows he can never go back. He can't 'hide' there anymore jsut for the girl. I read 'scar tissue' a while ago. I can't remember exactly when Athony was dating this tall blonde girl witha drinking and drug problem, but i knwo it was somewhere near the end of the book. I think it was around 2001, so maybe it would make sense that this song was about her, since By the Way came out in 2002. |

| AFI – Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Has anybody ever thought this...'dancing in the raiun of decending ash, dancing on your grave, I'll see you falling'. 'dancing doesn't necessarily mean 'dancing'. It could easily be a metaphor for 'running, jumping, screaming, dodging, suffocating'. Dancing could be a metaphor for fast acts or movements. Therefore, this song could easily be about 9/11. The people at the bottom see ashs falling from the burning buildings, they run over ground that will become a mermoribal setting (grave), and they see people falling out of buildings. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Thirty Three Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Some interesting thoughts...I think this song is about leaving someone or someones after a loving and meaningful relationship, that was really close. This way, you can relate it to Courtney Love. You can relate it to Jesus. But most importantly you can relate it to Billy Corgan. I think this is a very personal song to Billy, and if whoever said it is right, then he did write it after the Siamese Dream tour. It would make sense-he's come to the end of a journey meeting a lot of people on the way but eventually having to say good bye. Im not sure, but one of these people could've be Courtney Love. (I dont know when they were going out). Also when writing it, although Billy isnt, or wasn't religious at the time, he could still have referred it to Jesus. I mean, I'm not religious but I think his last hours is a great story, and I wouldnt mind related my songs to religious terms. Furthermore, I think all the pictures next to the song lyrics in the Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness booklet relate to the songs in some way. Next to thirty-three is a picture of two rings linking each other with a ribbon throuhg them. I think this could symbolise the loving friendships or meaningful relationships. The two rings being two people connected, and the ribbon being the obstacle in the way that forces them to part each other. But, they are still forever connected. |

| John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I think thats just it, there can never be a perfect world. We can try really hard and keep our hope but at the end of the day, theres always going to be destruction. If you think about it, you'll agree with me. Destruction is inevitable, in a sense we NEED it. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have peace and love either. We need both. Thats how its always been and thats how it will always be. Its easy- yin and yan, + and - , 2 sides of the coin, good and bad, a balanced equation, heaven and hell, it's everywhere. One cant exist without the other so both have to be there. Or neither be there. |

| Aldous Huxley quote "what if our world was another planet's hell?" | |
| AFI – A Winter's Tale Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
curse the daylight, even though in smile he says "I'll write my first love song" doesn't neccessarily mean he hasn't. It could mean anything, with many of the songs there are metaphor's, this may be one? Or he may be singing from somebody else's point of view, saying they havn't written a love song. Or maybe he's thinking back to a younger age, and in that time of his life he was thinking "ill write my first love song" I guess what I'm trying to say is that you gotta look deeper than the top layer, ya know? AFI songs are often very complex and the words don't often mean what they directly mean when you first read them. |

| Ash – Starcrossed Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Yea, it's blatantly obvious that this song is about Romeo and Juliet, from Romeo's point of view, singing to Juliet. "it's true, you know that I'd die for you" Romeo died for Juliet, bla bla. "the poison's in our veins" Romeo commits suicide by drinking the poison, because he thinks Juliet is dead. And one of the biggest themes in the story is 'Fate'. Yea, I studied R&J at school about the same time the song came out... |

| Linkin Park – Papercut Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I dont think everyone is depressed, angry, suicidal and that. It's just that they're sometimes experiencing those feelings. Either that, or they can relate to it some other way like their friend went through it, or some dude in a movie was like that :p And thats kinda linking to what I'm about to say. I used to be really into Linkin Park from their first album, but since their second came out, they've kinda faded from me. Not because of the music, I think the music is great. They've changed a bit, but still make it safely connected to Hybrid theory. But it's the lyrics. It seems to me that generally they're singing about the same things either: relationships, anger, depression. I mean, thats kool to sing about those things but, I would've thought they'd broaden therir minds and sing about something different eg. war, political issues, media, nostalgia...theres heaps of things out there. Ohwell, maybe they'll do something different on their next album. Oh and the title, Papercut. Maybe they're saying their mind is like a papercut. It kinda drives you crazy that it's there, and the lyrics seem to be describing his paranoia/going crazy. |

| John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| whoops, i forgot to put in, "possessions meaning possessed by an evil being" could be for example: religion, government, etc.. | |
| John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
The 'possessions' part. Has anyone ever thought...that it might not mean the "owning something" Possessions, But could possibly mean "being possessed by an evil being" Possession. I dont know, it might not mean that, but it could. What does everyone think of A perfect cicrcle's cover of this? I thought it was alright, but they totally took the real meaning from it. Plus it's a lot more dark and eerie rather than hopeful and happy like the original. |

| AFI – The Days Of The Phoenix Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Ok. I read nearly everyone of those posts. And I've come to the conclusion......*drum roll please* brbrbbrbrbbrbrbrrbbrbrbb, chee! That BOTH the phoenix theatre where they used to play AND the 3 friends dying at high school are correct. First Verse- the FUNERAL of the kids..you can figure it out:p candles, flowers, roses,"figure on the bed" girl on coffin?bla bla.. Pre chorus- Funeral "words as mystical.." the holy guy that says the speech to the dead? "circle rage" circle of ghosts (cant be seen) at the funeral/cemetary...would be full of ghosts, angry cause got "unfinished business and booha. "ghost stories" the holy dude again talking about stories/life of the dead people, now ghost. Chorus- Is Davey remenising of YESTERDAY when they were alive. I dont know, maybe he was hanging out with them, and they DREAMED of the future. He fell into FANSTASY...hes at the funeral and hes fantasising of when they were alive with him. OK! you still with me?good, here comes the bridge! This is Davey at the funeral again, hes still in his little day-dream fantasy, remenising his friends... He remembers how he played at the Phoenix Theatre, possibly just yesterday?(chorus) and there was a girl (the girl that died) that waited for him, Maybe his love(ohhhh) waited after they finished their gig at the theatre. Plus, their fans or the goth scence (whatever one appeals to you) were dancing around..you get it aye? the last bit kinda makes it obviouse theyre about to die. He repeats "our dreams seemed not far away" 3 times, and kinda builds up until *GASP* OH NO! they died!!boohoo!! and SNAP! back to reality "he fell into fantasy" and he realises that THE DAYS OF THE PHEONIX changed now,as his friends have died and it will never be the same again when he plays there. So,what did ya think? Oh,and about that 1800 boats thiny-ma-lingy, i think the name AFI,art of drowning and black sails in sunset ALL relate to the phoenix boat BUT have nothnig to do with this song, so bla mwahahhahahahahhahhaah a oh ooh oh oh ah *cough*cough*... |

| Sum 41 – We're All To Blame Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Yea, i can see why you'd think this song is like Chop Suey. Being the heavy verses, then slowed down chorus's and hardcore bridge. But then again, it has a totally different feel and meaning. Anyway, I reckon this song is basically saying that the world has become a fearsome, debating, fighting, consuming and bullshit religious place. And hes just wondering how it came like this. Also, when he says "Supersize our tragedy" that kinda of reminded me of morgan spurlocks film ealier this year, "Super size me". Maybe the song's also talking about how a lot of the worlds population has become fat, because of bullshit Mcdonalds brainwahing us. |
|
| AFI – Bleed Black Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Ya know what I reckon......is that this song is the begining of the album. It kinda makes sense, more than the theory of 'silver and cold' being the begining. Firstly, the track before this one is 'leaving song part 2',which would mean that its the end of the album, coming after 'the leaving song',not before it which doesnt make sense. And the title of 'leaving song part 2' fits at the end of an album, because in a way they're 'leaving us',but only for a little while! Secondly, (i think one of the biggest clues) is that in the album booklet theres a defining line between 'leaving song part 2' lyrics and 'bleed black' lyrics. I'm guessing this is separating the begining and end of the album. And thirdly, to me this song is about figuring yourself out and finding yourself. Which kinda makes sense to put at the begining of an album, because a lot of new fans will be trying to figure out their lives, and find salvation within the fire of AFI. |

Brilliant poem..I cant believe no one's commented on this yet! I think I get the general jist of the idea it's trying to explain. But its too vague for me to get if theres a definite subject or meaning from it, but what the hey I'll give it a try... The first time a heard it, I automatically noticed how a young boy speaks first, then a man(I think it's Davey?!), then an elderly man. So i guess in some ways it's showing a whole lifetime, and how you would interpret the world from different ages. But the first paragraph is pretty technical for a kid:P This also gave me the idea of birth, life and death, the 3 stages of existence,is it? I also got the impression that something horrible has happened, maybe a war, hurricane, tsunami, bush getting re-elected?maybe deeper 'metaphorical' meanings i dont know. And also by the end of it all the shit has gone and everything's good now "we found salvation scracthed into the earth like a message"(last line). And he's always refering to "you" and "we",which could possibly be anyone,a girlfriend, friend, Mum, Dad, brother, sister, dog, plant, the listener of the song?OR he could be talking to a different person in every paragraph,or line?who knows? Anyway, thats all i got outta that, pretty crappy i know, but yea, i'm not much of a thinker, what are your thoughts?goodbye, good night, thankyou. I'm here till thursday, try the veil! |

| AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think they are saying how they've changed from 'The Art of Drowning' to 'Sing the Sorrow'. In fact,i think it's blatantly obvious. Firstly, its their first single off the album, and wasn't the single before this one 'Days of the Phoenix' off Art of Drowning? So this song is kind of a link. Secondly, read the lyrics, then read through Art of drowning lyrics.Theres so many connectionins its not funny. 'Girls not Grey'-in days of phoenix davey says "the girl on the wall always waited for me" "I'll lay me down tonight"-in Smile he says "I'll end the world tonight" "This Art does drown"-Art of drowning is the title of their last album "lace of light"-Ever and a day he says "bathed in the light" "what follows me" kinda relates to losts soul's "take my hand and walk with me" "all insects sing tonight"- Catch a hot one's "i saw an insect fly" "watch the stars go out"-morning star's "I saw a star" So overall, theyre saying how they've ended a chapter in their career, and this is a new and better one,but still remembers the past. |

Ok,i orignally thought this song meant something else, but now that i've read most of your opinions,i'm convinced its about shakespears 'the winters tale'. Either that,or a love song between two lovers in winter. But neither the less, i'll give my original interpretation, just to broaden everyone's minds... I always thought it was based on that old story 'A lion,a witch and a wardrobe',a movie which i watched quite a bit as a kid:P. I thought it was the from one of the creatures living in Narnia(the place the story is set) view. The whole of Narnia is always snowing, and never christmas. So if you were a creature living there, the song would be describing the scenery as Davey does. i dont want to go over the whole song, but to help you out,"forever longing for a sign of life,a bringer of light" might mean santa claus?bringer gifts because its christmas? i dont know, remember i used to think this.. |

| AFI – This Celluloid Dream Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think this song is to do with celebrities in general and how the public disrespect them and treat them like shit. I think 'Celluoid' is to do with the photographers taking photos of celebrities which are placed in magazines/newspapers. 'Dream' is that everyone dreams of being like the celebrities. This is sung by the photographers or journalists point of view towards the celebrities, and is so obsessed with them.-'you're so exquisite' 'if I could remain, but it's just a visit'-they're at a press conference or premiere "To the lovely dancing lights, I begged, "May I cut in?"" hes going to it,and desperately wants to get pass the vast crowd of people to get to the celebs The chorus is just talking about how he feels towards celebs: they come into the media scence so pure and innocent (snow),they so picture perfect(cinematic) "in the glitter in the dark"-he thinks celebs are so amazing, they shine in night "praying this will never end"-wishing the time (conference/premeire)will not end because they want to see the celebs as much as they can "the the shadow of the star"-all obsessed public are in the shadow, looking up to the star(the celebrity) the bridge is refering to the photos in magazines, newspapers, billboards etc "all colors will turn to grey" the celebs are so great(colorful)but eventually the public will turn to hate them(because of false media gossip),turning to grey. Great examples are Micheal Jackson, Ben Affleck and J-Lo, R. kelly, George Bush, |

| Evanescence – Whisper Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song to me is about realising that God doesn't exist, and religion is full of lies. "catch me as i fall say you're here and it's all over now"-end of religion "speaking to the atmosphere no one's here and i fall into myself"speaking to the sky,as if to god,but hes not there so she now relys on herself "this truth drives me into madness i know i can stop the pain if i will it all away"-she still cant handle the truth that god doesnt exist The whole chorus is just saying that you shouldnt be afraid of the truth and just accept it,letting religion go. "i'm frightened by what i see but somehow i know that there's much more to come immobilized by my fear"-shes still scared of the truth, but knows deep in their heart its right, and its only the begining "and soon to be blinded by tears i can stop the pain if i will it all away"-shes crying because religion was such a big part of her life and now shes found the truth. She know it will stop if she stops believing in religion. The bridge is basically just the climax and end of her beliefs, and seeing the light of the truth, "rise to meet the end" meaning she has risen/breakthroughed/come out of the darkness of religion, and it has ended for her. The irony is that its coming from a christian person...maybe the rest of the band is anti-religion |

| AFI – This Time Imperfect Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think the this song only makes sense in a sense that only the chorus makes sense?do i make sense?probably not... All of you have been saying about how its about a relationship, or suicide, or putting on a facade, when in fact it probably is. Davey made it so vague that it could fit with many things. But thats not my interpretation. I think that this song is about loosing ideas to write about, so thats what you writre about it. In the chorus he says 'there are no flowers no not this time, theyll be no angels gracing the lines' meaning there is no proper subject for the song this time, theres no beauty in the lines(song lines) 'just these stark words i find' just harsh, random thoughts and lyrics. 'Id share a smile but im too weak, id share with you could i only speak' He is literally speaker to you, the listener of the song, and cant smile or speak as hes drained of ideas 'just how much this hurts me'he feels guilty for not writing about a proper subject. This is emphasised by the sound effects after the song. It is all twisty and random like the lyrics of the song. You dont have to agree with me but its what i reckon anyway. |

| AFI – Death of Seasons Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Is anybody going to give their interpretation of the song?it seems to me your all just arguing about how you love or hate the song and how the techno part rocks... Anyway,i started to thinking about that techno part and it sort of reminded me of an army marching. Around the same time Davey says 'malignant tribes'.So this gave me the idea of marching, malicious armies, fighting one another. So i guess this song may be explaining how humans have turned evil always containing contraversy, debates, wars. I think the chorus is from daveys point of view where he sees stars as being people, and they are falling or turning evil. Stars are sometimes used in the lyrics eg. morning star. And they seem to symbolise human souls or life, which are all beatiful and bright, But eventually burn out (die). The can also mean stars as in celebrities. |

| AFI – The Leaving Song Pt. 2 Lyrics | 21 years ago |

If you look on the 8th page of the Sing the Sorrow booklet, there are faint scribbles of some of the songs on the cd. Around the top under the star it says 'The leaing song part 2-Pork pie'. Thinking about this, i related the idea of a pig dying to become a pie,and it kind of fits with the song... "break down and cease all feeling" killing the pig, "burn now what once was breathing"the pig is burning on the fire/oven and isnt breathing any more,"reach out and you may take my heart away" the chef is literally taking the pigs heart out to cook. i dont know, its what i reckon anyway... |
