Babyshambles – Fuck Forever Lyrics
|
I've not read every single comment, but obviously the interpretation that he's against the concept of anything being eternal or permanent seems correct. But there's also a certain cognitive dissonance, or a duality. On the one hand he's saying clearly "fuck forever", and "sever the ties", he also says "I'll never sever the ties", "I'm stuck forever, stuck in your mind" (at least in the version of the song I listen to, there's 2 versions of this song, the more popular one with a music video has different lyrics to what is written here)
So it seems to me that the song is about a desire to reject "forever", but knowing inevitably you will fail as some things are just permanent. |

You don't think "How come you taste so good" could be sconstrued as an oral sex reference? Also a lot of blues music have saxophone solos, it's not unusual.

Didn't Pete grow up in London? Why does he sound so scouse in this song? The way he says "Glory" and "pergatory" sounds so liverpudlian |

Living Colour – Cult of Personality Lyrics
| 13 years ago

sorry ciproman but I think you missed the point of the whole song. He's not saying Stalin and Ghandi and Kennedy are the same, or that their deeds are similar in any way, he's saying they all became influential through the strength of their personalities, this is what a cult of personality is. And with lines like "You don't have to follow me, only you can set you free", he's clearly saying we shouldn't idolise anybody, we should be thinking for ourselves. I think the lyrics to this song send a really strong and positive message. |

The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever Lyrics

sorry but other than that one line I don't see it, I mean John has said himself it's a song about how he feels different from other people, with references to his childhood. Also if you put that one line in context with the next line:
Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see.
They clearly have to be considered together. In this sense it seems to be a comment on going through life without understanding what you see. nothing to do with literally having your eyes closed. |

how the hell did the "I buried Paul" thing ever start? It sounds nothing like that. Cranberry sauce is kind of a weird thing to say but it's very clear that's what he is saying. |

Faith No More – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics

i think people need to realise the band broke up nearly a year after album of the year was released. They toured it for like 10 months. And these songs were written in the 2 years between 'king for a day' and AOTY. I seriously doubt any of the songs are about the band breaking up |

Mr. Bungle – Quote Unquote Lyrics

Some of this song is obvious...
He is a limbless guy in extreme sensory depravation. His only remaining sense is smell.
I can kinda see that he envisions himself as being various famous people the at the end the images fade back to nothing.
What I don't get is the connection between hitler swayze trump and travolta. I'm sorry but capitalism and fascism aren't passing fads, they have and will be around for a long time, and are not equatable to Disco or dirty dancing, try harder for the connection there, please. |

This is a good, fun song with a nice melodic chorus, it doesn't surprise me it made into into the greatest hits. Good video too. Mosley was never a great singer but since when did that matter in punk rock. |

Faith No More – Last Cup Of Sorrow Lyrics

why ban him? he makes some good points. yeah hudson's guitars are simple and unimaginative, but it works I think. The main problem may have been that all the songs on this album (i think) were written by patton, gould and puffy, with little or no input from roddy or hudson. Almost like they wrote the songs then just said 'here hudson play this' without letting him express himself. If you hear the band's live performances with hudson he seems capable of performing everything his predecessors ever came up with. |

Faith No More – Midlife Crisis Lyrics

Patton didn't break up the band. The main reason was because puffy left to drum for black sabbath. Drummers are replacable but if they'd replaced him there would only be 2 original members left and with bottum no longer writing and working on his crappy pop group they got to the point where it just seemed stupid to carry on. |

Wow, getting a little defensive are we? If its so simple i'm sure your explanation will convince even the most hardened skeptic, maybe even Patton himself... |

Yes its quite simple, that one reference clearly supports your theory, despite being contrary to the meaning given by the writer of the lyrics himself. Quite simple indeed. |

why? Its pretty much the same, even the guitar solo is the same. You just have patton singing it instead of lionel, both are great vocalists. Whichever you prefer the difference has to be marginal, I can't see how this can 'own' the original.
Now take a cover like 'I started a joke'. Now THAT owns the original. |

towards the end? i thought patton had always done that. i mean look at epic FFS.
Thing is you cant just slap any old words together just because they sound cool, the sentences still have to make sense. And each line will invariably affect the next one. So while no explicit meaning was intended from the start most songs take on a meaning as they are written. |

Faith No More – Just A Man Lyrics
|
actually after considering this i have a different perspective.
this song I think is about a man who is scared to reach for stars, because like icarus he might try to fly too high and fall. So he closes his eyes and hopes for cloudy skies so he might not see these stars tantalising him.
But at the end his eyes are now open and he reaches for the stars (he tries to be more than just a man) which as he feared - end up burning him. |

can't remember exactly but i think this song was inspired by a quote from a soldier (possilbe written on a war memorial) where one man was carrying a wounded comrade, the quote obviously being

Onee of my favourate songs by any band
jon hudson brought about a big cchange in FNM IMO, he seems like more of a rythmn guitarist than a lead, the old overdrive pedal of jim martin was out and more slick metal style riffs came in. |
