surprised that there are no comments on the band's songs.
think of pop-punk with some occasional ska elements.
in the first 2 iterations (the band has had 3 different lead singers) there is a drummer, keyboardist, upright bass player, and a female singer who is also the guitarist.
people should check them out - their songs are catchy without being over-commercialized and i'll bet they put on a great show. |

I'm thinking there's a story behind this song. Maybe about a girl who is sick in some way. Or who is not in control of her life... |

| Headstones – Tweeter and the Monkey Man Lyrics

People have been slagging the Headstones version over the Wilbury's version. The Headstones' is heavier and a bit sped up which I think sounds good because it speaks to possible speed/coke use and the urgency of the actions in the song.
I like this take. |

This is a cool video.
It is based on The Pied Piper. Watch it and see.
And the band's sound truly is unique.
Introspective punk pop at its finest |

| Wolfsheim – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics

The singer has lost his faith in God "while all the others are praying".
He will not pray with the others because he no longer loves God, blaming him for the loss of his wife and son. |

Sure it's filled with innuendo but you can also see it just a psychedelic expression of how we views the various aspects of the song. This song is very much like the WIsh album. |

It seems to be about a guy that she is only with for the sex or for fun and is not serious about. He's "only good for bad behaviour". He is not growing up or growing at all and she's getting sick of it. He keeps learning his "lessons falling down" and is not really learning from his mistakes. |

| My Chemical Romance – Famous Last Words Lyrics

Not sure if someone has already pointed this out but the line should be "Honey if you'll stay you'll be forgiven" NOT "I'll be forgiven".
It's more powerful and makes a bit more sense that way. |

Someone here wrote about this song being inspired by The Cockatoos and I just read the same thing. In the story a sack of kittens is cast into the water. "Into the sea, you and me" |

I find it interesting how people come on and just say how bad a song is. Do you only like bands that get no airplay? Do you hate all but a few bands? Do you only like bands that music critics acknowledge were influential (Beatles, Hendrix)? Do you post on every band's lyrics how every one of these bands sucks? That's gotta take a lot of time. I admire that dedication.
Personally I like the music and lyrics to this song. There's plenty of music I don't enjoy but I don't go around talking about those bands. |

Making a god out of blood mean to force your beliefs through wars/coercion rather than superiority. If you made a god out of superiority it implies that your beliefs are those that are sound and worthy of followers rather than just enforcing your beliefs on others. This is likely a lash-out at nations that (most obviously the US but other colonial powers too) who impose their system of beliefs/philosophies/laws on others simply through intimidation tactics rather than the inherent superiority of these systems. |

| Siouxsie and the Banshees – Cities In Dust Lyrics

This song was written after the band took a trip to Pompei whiel on tour. Siouxsie said being there felt as if she could feel the agony of the people who had died there and it was haunting for her. |

Also check Siamese Twins by The Cure for a more gothic version of a similar subject matter. I'm not sure which was written first but Robert Smith joined the Banshees for an album before rejoining The Cure in about 1983. The Cure sing about how short lived and ephemeral sex really is. Siouxsie may have a similar meaning hidden in here as well but hers is more ethereally romantic. |

I think Siouxsie and Severin did write this song together at a time when the band was close to falling apart. According to Budgie: "it was a sad, intense expression of how far you would go for somebody". I saw them play this song in 1991 and it was chilling. |

It's a personification of himself and his girlfriend as cats. I just love the way the background bass played by Simon Gallup makes me think of a cat's walk. |

This song was written in response to an article suggesting that Siouxsie had breast implants.
"Look to the hills- now look at my face" An obvious reference about looking at a woman's breasts before her eyes.
And about plastic surgery in general. |

Erasercuts is right. I'm currently reading the Banshees biography and that's what Siouxsie says. Though they could be singing about a deeper meaning as well; the Cure does this with so many of their songs that they base on stories, books, etc. to give them a broader scope. |

| The Cure – The Big Hand Lyrics
|
I think this song is about God and people's belief in and acceptance of an existence guided by the hand of God.
You don't ask "why me?"
You just slip to the floor
Slip to your knees (to pray)
Sort of like when bad things happen and some will say "The Lord works in mysterious ways" as an explanation/rationalization. It helps us accept things that we don't understand. St Thomas Aquinas believed that The Hand Of God was the prime initiator behind all our actions.
Robert Smith is openly atheist. |

I always thought this is a Cure song but it is from the brief collaboration between Steve Severin (of Siouxsie & the Banshees) and Robert Smith (The Cure). I think there were in a drug induced stupor of some kind when they wrote this album in 1983-84. I'll bet this is based on a children's story of some kind. |

| Siouxsie and the Banshees – Voodoo Dolly Lyrics

|
Siouxsie's father was an alcoholic. Could this be a song that she is singing to her father about either her sister, her mom, or her as the dolly. Apparently her father mistreated them most heinously when he was drunk. This could be about a voice that she imagined spoke in his head making him act the way he did. |
