Rush – Tears Lyrics 20 years ago
This is one of the few songs with lyrics NOT written by Neal Peart. Instead, Geddy Lee penned these lyrics. This is pretty obvious by the style of the song based on the rest of the material in the album. Back in the days of 2112, Neal wrote the rest of the album as a response to the critics who described their previous attempt harshly. in fact, the Caress of Steel tour was nicknamed the 'down the tubes tour'. the previous 'fly by night tour was so well received as a sophomore album that rush was hailed as one of the greatest rock bands to date. In any case, 2112 was quite retaliatory and was directed at critics who panned them. it remains one of the alltime great albums in rock history with one of the best received rock-operas ever performed. Tears is a departure for the album. One of the few love songs (or pseudo love songs) the trio would publish.

NOTE: many people believe that the retaliatory nature of 2112 is the SOLE reason Rush has not been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Quite an injustice. Even non-fans must agree they have made an indellible mark on rock music. With most of the musicians in the genre citing Rush members as their inspiration and with most of the rock mags of the 70s, 80s and 90s (and a few even now) nominating them as the mest musicuans on the scene, I tend to beleive there might be some truth to this rumor

Dean Martin – Memories Are Made Of This Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is reflective of memories throughout a lifetome of love between the singer and his partner. Starting with a first kiss and some tough times, right through marriage, children and building a life together. to call this one of Dean Martin's best is certainly true; but then, with thousands of recordings he made his own; some people might object to that characterization. no doubt his voice and talent will inspire for generations to come.

Rush – Bravado Lyrics 21 years ago
From it's homage to Icarus and Daedalus and through, the message is clear, even if we fail, we must percevere. We will pay the price, no matter what it might be. It is a great lesson in life.

Rush – Territories Lyrics 21 years ago
In my opinion, Territories is a call for unity, almost expounding on John Lennon's calls for unity in Imagine and his public appearances. This is a call for peace; a wake up call, if you like. Rush is asking us to look through the eyeglass correctly. Quit creating divisions from our differences, but instead, find our similarities. 'Citizen of the World' really seems to convey the idea of the song best.

Rush – Manhattan Project Lyrics 21 years ago
I'll give you folks a bit more evidence that the song is a literal reference. The video (I know most of you are too young to have seen it) demonstrates that it is clearly about the war. The final scene of the video has a young boy riding an atomic bomb in an homage to the scene in Dr Strangelove where Slim Pickens is riding the atomic bomb as it falls on Russia. Clearly it is a politdcal statement. A very nice piece of work, actually.

Rush – 2112 Lyrics 21 years ago
With all reverence to the assessment by Flogging Molly, the fact is that the lyrics to 2112 were written by Neal Peart as a sort of creative response to the critical failure of their previous album, Caress of Steel. While it is now considered a terrific album, at the time, it was nicknamed the 'Down the Tubes Tour' since the band was reduced to playing small clubs instead of the arenas of the Fly-By-Night tour. Neil was actually expressing his discontent for the critics (as he indicated in the 1985 Steve Gett book "Success Under Pressure"). The story is a journey of rebellion. There is no truth to the blantant lie regardiny Geddy or his father. I'm suprised another artist would write such a thing. Jealousy perhaps. Geddy Lee, from suburban Toronto, is a known supporter of equality, not prejudice. That sentiment is in all their work. Of course, as a copmlete work, 2112 stands alone for it's maturity of writing, both lycically and musically. For 'a bunch of kids' (Geddy was about 20 when this album was produced), the music well developed. Neal's writing style was far from the under-developed, over-efforted sentiment of Caress of Steel. Truly, this is one of the finest of the great rock operas. Amazingly, their work has only gotten better through the yers. Nice job!

Flogging Molly – Another Bag Of Bricks Lyrics 21 years ago
This song just seem incredibly trite to me. Seems as though the author seems to try entirely too hard to carry forth some great message, but ends up spouting re-arranged colloquialisms by the dozen. Musically, it is competent, but unimpressive.
