Norma Jean – The End of All Things Will Be Televised Lyrics 19 years ago
Far and away the best song on Redeemer. The ending blows me out of the water (no pun intended) every time I hear it. As for its meaning, it sounds like its about judgment day.

MC Lars – Hot Topic Is NOT Punk Rock Lyrics 19 years ago
This song isn't talking about "punk rock" as a genre of music, but as a state of mind which is the complete opposite of all that Hot Topic represents.

"DIY ethics are punk rock
Starting your own label is punk rock
G.G. Allin was punk rock."

That pretty much says it all. Good luck walking into a Hot Topic and finding material to make your own clothes, or albums put out by local labels, or even a G.G. Allin t-shirt for chrissake. Punk is dead. It died with G.G. But it's ideals dont have to die with him. They mostly through indie music and hardcore nowadays.

Botch – Swimming The Channel Vs. Driving The Chunnel Lyrics 19 years ago
The intrumentals, lyrics and vocals sound like a Slint song. When I first heard this song, it just confirmed my hunch that Slint probably had quite an influence on Botch.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Rifles Lyrics 19 years ago
I absolutely love this song. At about 5:00 when the solo stops dead and it breaks back into that hypnotic, watery riff and peter starts singing "i see the rifles coming over the hill..." in his moody voice, shivers run down my spine.

The Microphones – The Moon Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is hands down the greatest I've ever heard. As I've gone through the past year or so, it's become increasingly personal for me, with each line having a special meaning and feeling associated with it. The way Phil goes from nostalgia in the verses and pure pain and regret in the choruses is amazing.

Personally, I like the albini-esque production of this song. It makes you look a little harder and listen a little closer to find the underlying beauty of it all. I must've listened to The Glow Pt 2 (a great album by itself) a dozen times before I realized how truly great this song is.

Pinback – Syracuse Lyrics 20 years ago
I read in an interview that Rob and Zach write their lyrics seperately for a given song and just sing their respective parts. It's really easy to see that in this song.

Modest Mouse – A Life of Arctic Sounds Lyrics 21 years ago
God, I love how Isaac repeats his metaphors throughout his songs, especially long-distance driving (life of arctic sounds, this is a long drive..., long distance drunk, ohio, out of gas, interstate 8). Sitting in a car on a flat road for hours is a situation we've all been in and it has certain feelings attached to it that Isaac conveys so perfectly.

The Blood Brothers – USA Nails Lyrics 21 years ago
The amazing part of this song is how totally nonsensical many of the lines are, almost in a Lewis Carroll kind of way. "I need to hear the way your tongue tastes in my hear", "Put the receiver to your chest and let me know who loves you best", "When I watch you through the phone". Also, the sexes of the Operator and the Prisoner seem to change a lot during the song. This is such an abstract song.

Modest Mouse – Bankrupt on Selling Lyrics 21 years ago
I love this song. It reminds me a lot of Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees". It has the same mellow acoustic sound and pretty much the same meaning
