Everyone is hating on this new album but it is actually pretty amazing. This song is a perfect end to it, IMHO. While their previous album had more immediate radio-friendly hits, this is a more complete album. Great song about hope and credit. I like it. |

Walking Blues, I could be wrong. However, I base this on him singing about going to Catholic school, following you into the "dark" and the lyris of Heaven and Hell illiminating the "no's" on the vacancy signs. He says that he went to Catholic school and for whatever reason got his nuckles beat with a ruler, a common practice there. A nun told him that fear is the heart of love (as in GOD) so he left. However, does that mean he wouldnt reference Purgatory? A place known by Catholics to be neither Heaven or Hell but a pitch black place to cleanse your soul... Also, the lyrics state that Heaven and hell illuminate the "no's" on the vacancy signs. This meaning that neither will accept the dead/dying person. To me, I may be wrong but it seems pretty obvious. Also adding in the video and its obvious purgatoy-esqe visuals.... I dunno, could be wrong but it seems fairly obvious to me. |

I've only read a few descriptions but I havent read anyone really get it completely right. IMO, its CLEARLY a song about purgatory, a place thats only believed in Catholocism and is not Heaven or Hell but a place your sent to to clear your soul BEFORE Heaven. Yea, its about someone dying but I think he is telling her that he will follow her into the afterlife...which is Purgatory. Either that or he is claiming to not be too good or bad so he meets her there. HAHA. Still, amazing song and great video even. |

Yeah, the way this song follows "we lookedl ike giants" especially makes it painfilly beautiful. Im a 24 year old guy but i can easily admit that i have cried to this song more than I can count. "We looked like Giants" following into this song tells a painful story thatss still apart of my life today.....with amazing and uncanny accruacy. Too good to be put into words.... |

Yeah, the thing is that i have posted on almost all of their songs over the last year or so. yet, all but about 4 have been deleted!?! I dunno if its my goofy last name but Im mad. HAHA. Thats for all the bands i have posted for! 4 or so total! Either way, it is cool. Too few people know of or appreciate this band. Amazing band. Fell in love when I heard about half of "Everyone..." and have enjoyed everything since. |

Not 100% sure what this song is about but its my favorite off the the new album. HAHA. Not the best song on the album but my favorite. Makes me wanna jump off the walls and that cannot be underestimated in Music. Sometimes its good to just listen ignorantly and rock out. LMAO. I do agree with the gay marriage and other concepts though. |

As a huge PJ fan, I have to say that this song kicks ass. Much to the tune of the Mayor of Mr Show's "Altered state of Druggachusettes" declaring the pizza to be "AWESOME!" Almost too good of a song, IMO. Especially considering the weakness of Binaural and the averageness of Riot Act. As for its meaning.....well.... I think its obivous. BTW, over the years I have left about 30 posts on this site for random bands and find that all but about 4 have been deleted. Maybe its the last name!?! LOL.....I dunno but Im dissapointed. HAHA. Either way, Im glad to see the band I grew up worshipping is back. |

A definitely different song from a great band. This song is almost ANTI-Shins in its bleakness and "no light at the end of the tunnel" lyrics/tune. This song just floors anyone who likes GOOD MUSIC! Roon, Totally my favorite line in this song and....dare I say it......maybe the best Shins Verse!??! I dunno, i just really love it. I agree with douche, maybe the best Shins song of them all. The approach, the sound, the point all really make me like this song alot. It sounds alot more personally driven than most other Shins songs, ya know? Its almost as if their approach to this song is personally driven with its "matter of fact" sounding delivery and beat. Anyway, I think its about a girl who finds her life through men. She is only alive when with men and in very intimate situations with them, maybe even cheating on someone to do it. Its almost like he is getting back at someone in a very passive way. Like he knows what she thinks nobody really knows..............and her life and its problems revolve around it. Just my personal take. |

As said above, this song just represents all of life's letdowns. As we grow up we are all led to believe things that are simply UNTRUE. We are led to believe that if we dont do drugs we will all be millionaires. We are led to believe that if we meet a girl and buy her flowers and treat her well....you will be in love forever. television and our school systems have a mass produced way of teaching people. We soon find out that "We've been had" and that everyone has their own path. Life is not the cookie cutter shape that we were told it will be given a few simple choices. No, college doesnt make you successfull. No, she may not love you and in fact...she may cheat on you. Life is life, not an afterschool special. We have all been had and no song represents this fact better than this one. |

Ophelia219, I agree 100%. Both Walkmen albums are quasi-concept albums in that they seem to follow the path of human nature and how we handle life and its relationships. This song is just as you said in my eyes, its about 2 people too in love to throw eachother away. However, there is and has been issuses throughout their relationship (the album) and now its time to address them. I take the entire first two verses as their being unsure about what or how to do it. The way he sings that song, in the very frail and quietly mumbled tone, represents thta in my eyes. Then, at one point, he puffs his chest, wipes his eyes and bears it all. "Goodbye to all YOUR PLANS...you can listen to ME now" is the line that changes it all. it is also the most powerfull line in the entire album. Love this band. Love this song. |

Wow, again, GREAT song! Another song that hits ya hard behind a nice beat. They have a way of hiding PAIN and other hard issues in life behind foot tapping beats. They do this better than anyone in the business and second only to Bob Marley, IMO. Anyway, this song is obviously just about two people going seperate ways. its obviously his fault since he is apologizing for his anger in the first line. Great song. |

I think this is kinda obvious so maybe thats why nobody had listed that yet? Anyway, like "opifex" stated, that last line hits you so f#cking hard! The Walkmen have a way of giving even the most universal of feelings and moments the time they deserve. Everyone has had this happen to them at one point in time and The Walkmen captured that feeling in a song better than anyone else could have, IMO. I love this band. |

Well, I dont really know the actual lyrics to this song and Im pretty sure that only one man does. However, This still may be my favorite Walkmen song. When listening to this song, mixed with the title, I get the obvious feelings of dissapointment. A certain kind of dissapointment that can kill you if you dont "make the best of it" no matter how much it hurts. In other words, she may be gone and it may be your fault even......but ya gotta make the best of it before it kills you. Thats just my take. |
