This is a very beautiful, sad song. Probably the most introspective that I've heard from her.
I think it's obvious what she's talking about- she's trying to sober up and is looking back with disdain at the people who were there with her but didn't do anything to help. |

I'm surprised there are no comments on this yet, it's the best song on the album. Great lyrics: "I don't seem to have learned
that a lady in need is guilty indeed
so I paid and got laid in return"
Love the way they sing "and hell yes, I lived!" |

She wrote this in Aspen, CO after Lindsay had left and she basically received an ultimatim from her father. She was left with the decision of continuing the music career or doing something else. The line "And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills til the landslide brought it down" refers to the Rocky Mountains. |

I don't know if I'd call him a country artist, but however you label him, I think he deserves every accolade and more. Interesting to note that Jackson Browne and Shawn Colvin do backup vocals on this track. Another great one from the same album is "Her First Mistake," with lyrics such as "I don't know just what you heard. 'Boy I tend to set 'em up' are my favorite words". Why aren't there more of his songs on here? |

If you play this backwards, you can very clearly hear the song "All The Young Dudes" throughout the song. |

That might be the point. It comes at the end of an [awesome] album with a ridiculous story and I think Frank was trying to say, "Enough of that, let's have some fun." |

Just to add to what's already been said- on the commentary for the Stop Making Sense DVD, David Byrne mentions how the lyrics to this particular song make absolutely no sense at all. The individual couplets alone make sense, but they have nothing to do with the lyrics before or after them. Also, he does mention the P-Funk connection and how he thought the chant would make a catchy chorus, but the rest of the lyrics he kinda laughs at. |

| Elvis Costello – Everyday I Write The Book Lyrics

This is what Elvis had to say about the song:
"Every Day I Write The Book" is kind of a hack pop song. It doesn't have any feeling behind it. It's just an exercise in writing that sort of bad Smokey Robinson song with all the tricks of the trade...To balance [the album], we had a thing like "Everyday I Write The Book," that anybody could whistle, and that was written in 10 minutes, as a spoof. Originally I tried to do it as a lovers' rock song, and then we grafted on this kind of modern rhythmic treatment. It always begged to be done in some kind of pop style." |

| Jimmy Buffett – Cheeseburger In Paradise Lyrics

I think I remember reading about Jimmy saying he and a few others were lost on a boat and the entire time he kept salivating over thoughts of eating a cheeseburger. When they finally made it to land he ordered a burger, of course, and subsequently wrote this song. I don't remember all the details, but I think it was somewhere along those lines. |

This song has the best damn guitar solo I've ever heard. There is so much feeling and emotion in the playing here...it is easy to overlook it, because the phrasings are subtle, but he's really playing his heart out here. |

Okay so does anybody want to discuss what this song means? Or do you want to squabble? I think I read somewhere that it was about Neal Cassady doing too much drugs (and for the Dead to think that someone is doing too much drugs, you know it has to be bad). |

The best line is "You must be a limousine!" The song seems pretty straight forward- he's with a girl who has been around a bit, they're probably up at some makeout point on the edge of town where she takes all her men in her car. He feels uneasy about having sex with her, but what heck, its saturday night, so why not? Great song. |
