I said it once and I'll say it again. "The White Lady" is a name for cocaine. I am absolutely positive of this. Do a simple google search you don't believe me. Oh, and angel_in_the_snow.... You claim an addict to stimulant drugs doesn't need to do the drugs just to get going? You obviously know absolutely nothing about amphetamines then. If you are a chronic cocaine user, pretty soon you are so use to all the excess energy that when you stop cold turkey you feel empty inside, very lethargic, and socially withdrawn. Perhapse I could see how it could be about heroin if the name "The White Lady" wasn't used. Someone as deep into drugs as he would not mistake The White Lady for heroin. |

Firstly, calm the fuck down. It seems people who bitch about others giving their opinions about a song being about drugs, they throw a fit, put on some holier than thou facade, and then right away claim the song to be about love and some relationship. I think, perhapse the reason you get all riled up is because you fit the lyrics to the song to a given situation in your life that you relate to, and you don't even want to consider that this beautiful, emotional, meaningful song to you could be about mere drug use. Just look at the imagery here. Elliott uses lots of drug imagery in his songs. For example, "The White Lady Loves You More". The White Lady being a common street name for cocaine. That song is obviously about coke. Like "White Lady", "Snow" is also a common name for cocaine. So is it really that far of a stretch to think that maybe, just MAYBE the following lines... "i'd say you make a perfect angel in the snow all crushed out on the way you are better stop before it goes too far" could be about cocaine use? I mean FFS, get off your god damned high horse. We all have opinions. While it's true that just because Smith was an addict it doesn't mean all his songs are about drugs, but it also doesn't mean that none of them are. I still stand by my previous comment. This song is about straight-up drug use. Don't like it? Blow me. |

I think this song is about coke use. "Snow" is a name for coke. "all crushed out on the way you are better stop before it goes too far don't you know that i love you sometimes i feel like only a cold still life that fell down here to lay beside you" I think all crushed out is talking about a line of coke, he knows that he should stop before it goes too far and he gets too addicted but he loves it, and its the only thing that really makes him feel alive. Many coke users refer to it as a woman, almost as a girlfriend. |

Uhm as a former heavy user and as someone who has been around it for years, I can assure you "White Lady" means coke. I've never heard of Heroin be called "White Lady" by anyone who actuallys uses drugs. "White Lady" Is one of the most common names for coke. The Metal in this song obvioulsy refers to a razor to chop a line. Seems like its coming from the point of view of a girlfriend/wife who is in love with a coke addict. really well written and an overall beautiful song. |

song is decent. Certainly is no Tool but its still quite catchy. Personally I am an atheist and I find christian rock to be a little goofy considering when rock came out christians deemed it evil and what not. Now that they realize they can't stop rock... they decide to use it to their advantage. Kinda like gospel singers that scream. its really kind of laughable. Its not a bad song though and they are not a bad band. I just find the whole guilt trip christianity puts on you called "sin" to be kinda funny and it really comes out in this song. Invent a disease, call it "sin", and then try to sell the cure. Really funny but a great marketing strategy I also find it slightly amusing how christian teens think they are somehow being a rebel or a badass by being openly christian. Its kinda funny considering christianity has been in power for a about 2000 years. doesnt take much balls claiming to be christian when you live in a society dominated by christianity. Of course not all christian teens try to be a rebel through their faith but to the ones that do... I find it incredibly amusing. While many bands may have christian undertones a good many of them suck. Creed, As I lay Dying, Norma Jean, P.O.D. they are complete jokes. Especially norma jean. Firstly, Evolution is a fact. the only theory is involving its mechanisms. Humans did evolve... just like everything else. Why does the earth need a creator? I see no elements of design whatsoever. earth quakes, violent storms, tornadoes, disease, ect, ect. Humans are constantly struggling to overcome the environment. Thanks to our enlarged brain we have managed to do rather well at it however humans have not been around very long, we are new comers to the earth. out of the 4.5 billion years of earth history we are only but a smude on its timeline. I fail to see any elements of design in earth let alone the universe and I see no reason for there to be a "creator". As the well known question goes "Who created the creator". Most christians will answer "he always existed". Isnt that rather hypocritical? the truth is saying "god did it!" doesnt make sense of anything... it just makes it needlessly complex. Also it begs the question... created for whom? The universe is most likely infinite, we are one of hundreds of trillions of planets floating around in even more galaxies. How arrogant to think it was created all for us. I mean if this world was created for anything... why not insects? You can find insects everywhere in the world, they outnumber all forms of other life (mammalian, reptiles, fish,birds) and infact even feed off of us! Whos to say we arnt the insects housemaids? despite what you believe something does come from "nothing". it is a fact. Subatomic particles appear from "nothing" with absolutely no purpouse whatsoever. It is very possible the universe started in the same way. I suggest people research quantam physics for further info on this but needless to say things do come from nothing all the time... this is a fact. Time did not begin untill this universe formed, indeed we may well be one of many universes out there being spit out rapidly. That is only one of many possibilities, but its likely that this universe has always existed in some form or another. Now about the question of evil. If god is all knowing... meaning he knows the past, the present, and the future... then how can we be blamd for anyting? and how can we possibly have "free will"? An 80 year old atheist who lived a good and "moral" life but could not believe in a god because there is not sufficient proof, he dies and spends eternity in hell. However before this god even thought about making the man he knew every little thing he would ever do yet he still sends him to hell? How did the man have free will? and how possibly can he be blamed? It is like giving a gun to a 4 year old and then blaming that 4 year old when someone ends up dead. It is absurd. It also raises the question... if there is a god, then is time progressive or happening all at once? If time is happening all at once then does that mean I'm already in hell yet just not aware of it? and if time is progressive then how can god possibly know the future? but if he doesnt know the future then how can he possibly be omnipotent? Ok, I've looked up pretty much every interview I could find. maynard has never claimed to believe in the biblical god nor jesus christ. in fact if you knew anything about maynard you'd know he was an avid bill hicks fan. Bill hicks believed as does maynard that WE are god experiancing itself through a dream. Everything is an illusion. Maynard has stated over and over again that he does not believe in any religion and finds them all man made. In fact maynard has said over and over again how corrupt religions are, and indeed that its better to believe nothing at all. Check out Aeinema's cd case for that. So does maynard believe in a biblical god? or any imaginary sky friend? no. Does he believe in the divinity of jesus? no. Does he have a form of spirituality? yes. However just having spirituality does not mean you arnt an atheist. Most taoists, Buddhists and other ancient mystery religions are atheistic. Believing everything is connected. The odds of there being an afterlife? they are slim to anyone who isnt half retarded. You are your brain, your consciousness is nothing more than rapidly firing neurons. the mind brain connection is so strong that it makes an afterlife damn near impossible. If you get brain damage you become a totally different person, if you are born with a certain part of the brain underdeveloped then you are incapable of feeling any empathy whatsoever. Your material brain makes up your personality. Without that brain you have no personality. An afterlife is wishful thinking.. nothing more. Uhm all religions grew out of a need to explain the unknown... otherwise what would their purpouse be? Christianity is a combination of various pagan religion and judaism. For example the mythological story of jesus christ is almost identical to other religious avatars as the hindus Krishna, The Egyptian god Horus, Mithra from a popular pagan religion, The God-man Hercules, and Buddha. Indeed the simularities are stunning. The Bibical Jesus never existed, however there were atleast 3 jewish men named jesus in the time period claiming to be the messiah. "Messiahs" were a dime a dozen. Christianity was one of many many jewish cults. In order to spread christianity they made their jesus figure totally mythical, giving him qualities of various pagan religous figures so it can be mass marketed to the pagan roman populous. Not much if anything in the christian religion is orginal. Now as for "hell" let me ask you a question... Since god is all knowing, meaning he knows the past, the present, and the future... and he is also all good.... it would mean he would know every little thing each and everyone of us would ever do before he even thought of creating us. he knew ever little event that would occur, so how is that freewill? if he knows the future that means the future is already determined, making free-will non existant as you could do nothing that he would not know of in advance. If he was all good it would be simple for him to just not make people destined for "hell". This is like giving a loaded gun to a 4 year old and then blaming the four year old when someone ends up dead. How can hell be the result of gods non tyrany? If hell is a place of eternal suffering how is this not being a tyrant? you could argue "that is your free will choice, as you rejected god" But that begs the question, why would it have to be torment? If god was all good surely he would not allow people to suffer for all eternity for mistkaes they made in a comparitive very short few years here on earth. Especially considering that before he even created them he KNEW ahead of time that they would end up in such a place. I doubt the artists really worship satan and just because they have hatred for christianity does not make them satanists. However I'm aware that they use satanic imagery and such for aesthetic purpouses. I question the intelligence of anyone who believes in any god or gods or who worships any devil. There is scarce little evidence to support any kind of global flood despite how hard creation and bibical "scitentists" have tried to find. About them finding some "cow". Again you are either lying or are sorely misinformed. They have done no such thing. Also it is damn near impossible to prove that it would be the cow you are speaking of. Again you speak of more lies. The bible has NOT foretold "every major disaster" nor is there anything paranormal or supernaturual about todays weather. In fact the weather has been crazy since we have taken notice of it. Naturual Disasters happen and are to be expected, There have always been hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, eathquakes ect ect... they happen by themselves, they have no need for an imaginary superbeing to do it. About measuring years in "B.C" and "A.D". Almost no modern historian uses it like that. It is B.C.E.(Before common Era). The only reason it was consider B.C.(before christ) was because the influence the church had. Also jesus is not the only supposed saviour to clame he is both god and human. I suggest you look up the hindu Krishna or the Egyptian god Horus or perhapse even Hercules. Your jesus is not all that original I'm sorry to report. About there being so many shows on christianity on the history channel and in comparison not being many shows on other religions. You must understand that television is ran by ratings. Considering how many christians are in the western world ofcourse the history channels will have shows on such influential things. However they do have shows about other religions indeed a few weeks ago there was a show about Hinduism. My advice to you is to do some research because currently you make all christians look bad and are very unlikely to "open" anyones mind. |

Just for the record... To the guy who said that christianity was greo-roman... true. However christianity is by no means the building block of anything. The bibical jesus is purely mythological and the founders of christianity pretty much stole lots of their concepts from various pagan religion. Do some research on Horus the egyptian god and Krishna the avatar/saviour of the Hindus. You'll notice a striking simularity between them and the mytholigcal figure of jesus. The only reason christianity is as successful as it is today is because The Roman Elite used it to try and unite a declining roman empire. Oh wow, After seeing the total ignorance shown here I could not keep myself silent. There are quite a few misconceptions here and things that need to be clarified. 1. Atheism is not a religion. Atheists do not believe in ANY god or gods, nothing supernaturual, and sure as hell not life after death. 2. Evolution is NOT a religion. Evolution is science. Evolution is a FACT and a THEORY and yes this is possible. Micro-evolution has been proven in labs over and over again. 99% of all biologists and the overwhelming majority of scientists accept evolution has a FACT. The evidence for evolution is undenyable. Where do you think dogs came from? Do you think they just appeared one day? If you have atleast a half a brain you realize that they evolved from dogs due to hundreds of years of domestication by humans. This is a FACT. Now macroevolution can basically be summed up as micro-evolution but only over a much longer period of time. The earth has been shown to be about 4.5 million years old, humans have only been in existance for a few million years. Life as we know it is only a tiny portion of the worlds mass history. Given our relatively short life-spans it is hard for alot of people to comprehend that many years. Now, think back to my example of dogs evolving from wolves. Imagine this happening for 3000 million years. Does it not make sense that there would be tons and tons of different species? The evidence for evolution is undeniable. it is in fossils, it is in lab observations, it is as blatant as gravity. Would you call gravity a religion? Please understand that we cannot stop the teaching the findings of science because it goes against an ancient book. Science is about truth, when it was discovered that the world was round instead of flat.. the church denied this as blasphemy. They now accept this. The vatican also recently announced they accept evolution as a fact. Indeed only a slight majority of christians deny evolution. Please try to educate yourself on what something is before you go and trash it. Now as an atheist I will say this. I do not hate christians, I do not hate muslims, I do not hate anyone for their beliefs as long as they do not infringe upon my own. My father is a southern baptist preacher and I have read both the testaments of the bible twice. I wonder... how many of you have actually read your bible? front to back? or do you just know what your preacher tells you? I suggest to all of you to actually read your bible, read it ALL. not just the select few parts a preacher wants. After you finish reading the bible go and read other religious books such as the Quran, The Hindu Holy Writing, The buddhist writing. Then read atheist literature, educate yourself about all the beliefs out there before you make your decision. The fact is there is almost no historical evidence for the existance of a bibical jesus, no evidence for his miracles, no evidene for him raising from the dead. There is absolutely none. In fact around the time reported in the bible there were many, many people claiming to be the jewish messiah. Not only that but atleast 3 of them were named jesus! Also please realize that the jesus myth has alot in common with other religious figures. Check out info on Hindus Krishna, About Buddha, and about the Egyptian god horus, and Mithra from the Cult of Mithra that was around 200 years before the supposed time of jesus. Now about the song... I absolutely love it. I find it to be quite enjoyable to listen to even if I dont really agree with the lyrics. They are very talented musicians and I respect their right to believe whatever they wish. Also how is your religious experiance any more true or any better than the religious experiance of say... a hindu? a buddhist? or taoist? or a muslim? and if there is a god who says its your christian god? there are literaly hundreds of thousands of gods believed in or that have been believed in... your god has no more credibility than any of the others. religion comes down to culture, it comes down to societal memes evolving and passing down from generation to generation. I suggest you read up on memetics, very interesting indeed. religion is something that the human social animal has developed to create harmony in the society we need to survive and thrive in, just like governemtn, currency, laws, ect ect. To the complete and utter idiot who claimed that evolution was false... Micro evolution is a FACT. Macro evolution is a probably scientific theory. Do you not believe in dogs? Its obvious to anyone with atleast half a brain that dogs evolved from wolves after decades and decades of domestication by humans. Micro Evolution CAN and HAS been shown time and time again in labs all across the world. Fossils have been found clearly showing evolution. Do you know something that the scientific community doesnt? some hidden knowledge? some proof against evolution? if so please share it... I'm sure you'd become quite famous. As I've told many creationists... Just because you are too stupid to understand something, just because something is too complex for your dogma filled brain to comprehend does not make it untrue. Look outside? Why does the world need a creator? have you ever considered the fact that the only reason the world looks ordered and designes is because its all we know? and have ever known? It looks normal for us, however say if someone who came from some other kind of planet or something seen earth... it would look totally chaotic and strange to them. Some say "We build houses, we build watches, we build all these things, look at the world... doesnt it maks sense for it to have a creator being that its so simular to things we build?" This is called the argument by design and its totally absurd. The only reason that nature seems simular to manmade things is because man builds things from his understand of nature. from studying nature, from observing it... he learns to mold it to fit his needs. I think the song expresses how completely ludacris religion is, how completely absurd christianity is and how it can have a rather negative impact. Kudos to Maynard. Also maynard has said time and time again that he is an atheist. Although he does seem to be quite spiritual. Yes an atheist CAN be spiritual. Well Maynard has said quite a few times in interviews that he is indeed an atheist, and I do not believe he worships any form of god whatsoever. I do believe though that he has some form of spirituality... and I think he most resembles Ancient Chinese Taoism which if you look at some of tools lyrics and know anything about Taoism you will understand what I'm talking about. I believe this song is basically aimed at his mother who happend to suffer from what bioligist Richard Dawkins calls "Disease of the mind" which is basically religion. Religion is nothing more than a societal meme passed down and evolving from generation to generation. He sees his mother, sees how helpless she has become, how she still clings to her illusions of grandeur, how she will not listen to reason, and quite frankly this makes him sick. it makes him disgusted. I have had almost identical experiances with both my parents, seeing as my father is an evangelical priest and my mother teaches at a christian university. My parents pretty much disowned me when they discovered I was an atheist, and often times I picture myself screaming this song at them. Indeed someday I just might. To all of you people trying to get around having a guilt trip by saying "Oh, uhm... they arnt talking about jesus christ! uhm uhm... talking about some other messiah! maybe they are uh.. uh... talking about Krishna of hinduism! or Horus of the egyptian gods! uh uh uh... uhm... yeah that must be it. rock on! praise jesus and rock out!" It would be funny if it was not so utterly sad. To all of those who threw in that whole free will argument about how the evil in this world is not gods fault, it is humanitys fault. Well here is a question for you. Your god is omnipotent, right? Meaning he knows the past, the present, and the future... correct? So before he even considered giving us free will, he knew what each and every one of us would do with it, right? he know the ultimate outcome of everything... right? So the 80 year old atheist who lived a life of loving, of giving, of helping out all those he could... he dies and simply because he could see no evidence to support such grandeous claims that christianity makes... your god will allow him to suffer for eternity? even though before god made him he knew that this would happen? he knew what the eventual outcome would be? If so how do we have free will? Did god ask this man "Uhm hey... do you want to exist? your gonna live on earth for 80 years, experiance ups and downs, grow old and sick... die, and spend an eternity in hell, that sound good to you?" If not then I fail to see how we have free will at all. Let me use an example. It is like giving a loaded gun to a toddler and then blaming the toddlers "free will" when somebody ends up dead. Would this hold up in court? If not then why should it be acceptable for anything else? Also what makes christianity any more credible than that of any other religion? Why is there so little evidence for even the existance of jesus? (aside from the two passages of the jewish historian josephus that did not appear for 200 years untill they were tampered with). Surely such an earth shattering event as god incarnating would cause a bit more people to notice? Anyways this is long I'm aware and I am also aware that most will not have the attention span to read it. Oh well. If you read anything I have posted though... read this. READ THE BIBLE. FRONT TO BACK. BOTH TESTAMENTS. Do not read it from a christian view, do not read it from an atheist view, read it with an open mind. Do not just count on what your preacher tells you,... you may just be suprised what the bible contains. |
