I always thought this song was about getting pissed up, drunk, becoming in love with alcohol.
and for those who asked 'paint a cross on your left hand' if the song is about boozing, then that's either being underage thus getting 'Xed' on your hand(s) so the bartender knows not to sell you booze. or it's at a kegger to show you've paid already... |

I suppose using alcohol as a temporary escape is fake? hmm....well I guess those who participate in sport are fake as well? or musicians who lose themselves in the music? painters who use oil, water and pigment to escape reality? carpenters who spend all day in the shop to build the 'perfect rocking chair'? those who sit in the rocking chair simply to avoid 'real life' for a temporary bit of time....all these people ( the list could continue ad infinitum)....the point is, people who find a means to escape their own reality temporarily cannot be simply judged as 'fake' or shallow...because any person who has ever dreamed of their future and what they would like it to be would be labeled as fake, if I am understanding your argument - with the song as basis for said argument - correctly. |

Irish_Inferno76... Fields of Athenry; Black Velvet Band; Wild Rover; Rocky Road to Dublin (a.k.a Road to Dubh); Finnegan's Wake; Billy's bones...are not Dropkick songs...they have been adapted by Dropkick to put more tracks on albums and to appeal to a larger market; i.e. the 'irish market' these are classic irish folk songs adapted to the dropkick style on their albums. if you want to know what dropkick stands for: Solidarity. whether this solidarity is with respect to family (see walk away); friends (see never alone, caps and bottles, curse of a fallen soul), the worker (see heroes of the past, the torch, buried alive)
I'm not saying these are the only themes their songs embody, but these seem to be the predominant themes. |

This song was actually written by a Sniper who was fighting in Iraq (not on his correspondence)
another song "Last Letter Home" by Dropkick Murphys (Warrior's Code) was written based on correspondence from a Sargeant who was stationed in Iraq before he died. |

also it's not "after all of the sadness has been slapped off" it's "after all of the sadness has been slept off" (hence the waking up part) |

god I hate when people try to define music based on their own ideas and opinions. but I guss tsucol's one of those 'punks' who knows exactly what punk is and what it's about....but then again, if he/she did then he/she wouldn't be oppressing others with his/her fascist views on this subject matter. If you like the song you like it, who gives a fuck what "genre" it conforms to. It's a sick song, and one that I enjoy singing aloud in the car so fuck off anyone who sais it's shite. |

I think this song is about a girl that um..LI think Lars, would have met, while on tour, and how they got split up because he had to keep working and she had to go back home...it's talking about how he didn't need much from her, he just needed her etc...and that he now ha sa new view about this girl, that perhaps he feels deeper about her...I dunno |

ok...this one should be kinda obvious...but I dunno...it's about the government hiding it's internal issues and trying to cover them up form foreign countries to make themselves look better. Its the government who is tryin to hide these problems rather than fixing them. |

k, this song is, in my opinion, centered around the American idea that they are th ebest and can instill peace wherever they want, but it shows how they are not the most powerful and in fact have backed down from the conflicts mentioned, it's a stab at the american government showing them they aren't all they think they are. (thats waht I think anyhow) |
