| The Stooges – 1970 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Of all the early Stooges songs, this one provides the most directly copied blueprint for mid to late '70s punk. It was covered outright by The Damned on their 1977 LP "Damned Damnded Damned" by retitled by them as "I Feel Alright". | |
| The Stranglers – (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I bought the Stranglers' "Rattus Norvegicus" album back when it came out because I liked the cover. My friends and I played it a lot back in 1977/78 and sang along. This song was one of our particular favorites for the lyric: "stranger from another planet welcome to our hole just strap on your guitar and we'll play some rock n' roll" We went around saying that to each other like an inside joke as we swaggered around the U of IL campus as "punk rockers". Now, in 2005, I find more inspiration in the lyric: "but the money's no good just get a grip on yourself" |

| The Stooges – Search and Destroy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is indeed a great song. As one who was born in 1955, we saw the Viet Nam war constantly on TV in the late 60s and early 70s. The phrase “search and destroy” describes a routine type of Viet Nam mission for US troops, which we heard about over and over again. The phrase “fire fight” was also used extensively in media coverage of the war. The lyric “love in the middle of a fire fight” is probably my favorite of any song, ever. It says “fuck you” to misguided authority in a very positive way. | |
| Patrick Hernandez – Born to be alive Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song unpretentiously states the most basic meaning of life. It simultaneously means nothing and all that matters. | |
| Motörhead – Eat The Rich Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Not much, but a few significant lines have been omitted from the version of the lyrics presented here. | |
