Tenacious D – Tribute Lyrics 21 years ago
The first 2 minutes or so follows the format of "the devil went down to georgia" by charlie daniels. Meeting a demon/satan and having to play music to stop him taking your soul.
In the HBO version (one of the first recordings of the song) the fingerpicking bits from the first half of "stairway to heaven" [by led zeppelin] are mapped onto a tune & lyrics tenacious D took out of future recordings. Later versions included the chord progression in the 2nd half of stairway for part of the song (again, with different tune & lyrics).
However, most of the song is original content and only that small part which used stairway's chord progression remains.
As for any other similarities with "stairway to heaven" and "devil went down to georgia - there are none.

There are countless versions of the song, but the most popular are the HBO live version and their album version (on the self titled debut album). There are lots of versions of the video. I haven't seen the official one - only the MTV A-Z live version, which is very good.
Before the release of their album, the D sang all their songs with only the support of two acoustic guitars... and it rocked! On the album they have drummers, lead guitarists and whatnot and it kinda spoils the raw comedy effect slightly. Judge for yourself - head to www.kazaa.com download it & use it to find early tenacious D stuff.
Long live the D! [hail satan]

Tenacious D – Fuck Her Gently Lyrics 21 years ago
go watch the cable guy, starring KG and JB. (lazy guy on couch & Rick, respectively) and if you don't like it after watching it AT LEAST TWICE then you suck as a person. that is not my opinion - it's fact.

Tenacious D – Drive-Thru Lyrics 21 years ago
you're judging a song while not actually having heard it? not clever. I'm not offended cos in my opinion Tenacious D is kinda ok. no more. what is it with you guys and saying ass? you're listening to Jack black saying the F word countless times on the album and when it comes to typing "ass" you can't do it. WTF?

Tenacious D – City Hall Lyrics 21 years ago
"pinky and the brain"? "the jetsons"? what the hell age are you all? you shouldn't be listening to the D.... so anyway, the song: yeah, it's ok I guess. at the end of the song jack black teaches us the age old lesson that power corrupts "I poisoned your wine". ok, so it's profound, but it was also profound when shakespeare did it centuries ago.

Harry Chapin – 30,000 Pounds of Bananas Lyrics 21 years ago
Beautiful poetry, for a funy song! The lines dreamily wisp into each other - It's wonderful! He even tells the story story of how he came up with the ending he did. In the greatest stories live version, he sings "he shrugged his head...he shrugged hs shoulders" in the last verse by accident, and everyone laughs and keeps laughing until the end of the song!

Harry Chapin – Cats In The Cradle Lyrics 21 years ago
Well, children should learn from this song that they will turn out like their parents unless they make a conscious effort to be different. A lot of people know what it's like to be low priority with their Dad, and nowadays with both parents, but it need not be like this in the future. Make time for your kids now, and they will learn to make time for you & for their own kids.

Neil Young – Don't Let It Bring You Down Lyrics 22 years ago
"Blind man with an answer...come on down to the river of sight...white can lying in the gutter in the lane" So someone dupes an old blind man into following them & kills him ("with the daylight in his eyes") I think that's it. Pretty awful, but what do the "only castles burning" and "find someone who's turning" lines mean? Were they stuck there in order to rhyme?

Madonna – American Pie (Don McLean cover) Lyrics 22 years ago
Yes, Madonna shafted this. Kiddies: go to the Don McLean page - NOW! Don't waste your time here. Don wrote on his website (http://www.don-mclean.com/i/ap.asp) "It is a gift for her to have recorded 'American Pie'", So he didn't seem to mind. One good thing is that it has brought my fellow pop fan teenagers (wierdos) closer to don McLean and sparked their interest in his music, so I can't curse Madonna for that. Don deserves the credit, and he got it. Oh, and the rumour that Madonna actually wrote the song, children - That's not true. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – Sweet Home Alabama Lyrics 22 years ago
aw man! OK. Gym teacher: leonard Skinner. He expelled several members of the band for having long hair so they called themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd for a laugh. They were from Louisianna, yes. They loved Neil Young's Music & had heard the songs "southern Man" (after the gold rush) and "Alabama" (Harvest) in which Young condemns the racist behavior of Southern White men. When Lynyrd Skynyrd got really famous they were asked to play some gigs in Alabama & naturally they were apprehensive about going to this "cross burning country". When they arrived, however, they developed a whole new view of what the south was really like. Everyone was real nice to them & they wrote home alabama including the verse addressed to Neil Young to say: Alabama's not so bad after all. Its not as bad as Neil Young might have you believe. Other Verses mention their record producers, affectionately named "the Swampers" and some incident in Birmingham which, quite frankly, I know nothing about because I'm not American! Check out these websites for more info on this matter: http://hyperrust.org/General/Skynyrd.html
and

You should click these links before they change! And yes, They did write it as a bit of a laugh. They always loved Neil Young's music & never hated him. Sweet Home Alabama is just a big party!
Farewell, fellow Lynyrd Skynyrd Lovers!
