The "Black Ocean, cold and dark" is the drug or the world of addiction. He is the shark, an addict, who lives there. He is fast in the ocean (proficient at living there) and merciless (possibly killing those who choose his way of life) but certainly showing no care for anything other than living there. His other love, a woman can't swim in that world because she has most likely died from it. "I tied you to the tracks" probably refers of him introducing her to the ocean, injecting drugs. When he turns around and hears the sound may be someone telling him she has died, thus there being no time to turn back. What's worse than her not being able to swim is the fact that he still is using. "My muscles will contract, your bones will crack" is not talking about "her", it is that he is strong enough to withstand what others can't while he continues to swim in the ocean. Shooting, aiming for the sun (high) is the addict with the needle again and the truth he can not believe is she is gone and it's his fault. There is a ton of pain in the way this song is performed but it is not the anger of a predator, it is the pain of the addict and his guilt of the harm he caused. |

My take on these lyrics is almost the opposite to most of the people here, who seem tot think its about murder. To me, it's not about murder, not in the slightest. It's about being in love and being grateful that the person you're in love with is alive. "Your skull is red/your bones are red." When you murder someone you don't see their skull or their bones, do you? Probably not. However, everyone who is alive has a red skull and red bones, as blood is passing over them all the time. to me, it's almost as if he's observing his partner and thinking about how much he loves her. The fact that her fingernails and clothes are red remind him of the blood which keeps her alive, "and it feels good." The song celebrates lfe, as opposed to celebrating the killing of life.... |

To me, this spoken word song (really more of a poem recitation) is about a person who is casually asked "how are you?" and he responds to the question in the usual manner: "I am doing well"." He is not really doing well but doesn't want to bring this up in casual conversation. This is something of a acknowledgement of an homage to an homage both of and from the pixies...... Confused yet?
