Leonard Cohen – Suzanne Lyrics 17 years ago
Wow, awesome comments from ya'all. This is such
an interesting topic and song. One of the earliest
of Mr Cohens that I remember....

It has it's roots in The Scriptures Psalm 107 to
be exact...
http://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/Psa/Psa107.html#23

They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of
The LORD, and His wonders in the deep. For HE
commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which
lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the
heaven, they go down again to the depths: their
soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and
fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at
their wits' end. Then they cry unto The LORD in their
trouble, and HE bringeth them out of their distresses.
HE maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves
thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be
quiet; so HE bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Oh that ALL men would praise The LORD for HIS
goodness, and for HIS wonderful works to the
children of men! verses 23-31

The Cure – The Blood Lyrics 17 years ago
Robert is an excellent wordsmith and poet.
I see this song as his search into eternity with
the painful memories of lost love...
Yes, I remember reading somewhere about the
bottle with Christ's picture on it... also I am well
aware of Robert's spiritual seach....Life ain't easy...
but we all thirst for hope and truth.

The Smiths – Rubber Ring Lyrics 17 years ago
Ahhh, Morrisey comes up with the most amazing
lyrics... This song is about us 'old heads' who've
been playing not only The Smiths and Bob Dylan
but countless 45's and Lp's on Vinyl since the 50's!

Don't Forget the songs that made you cry and the
songs that saved your life....yes, I really like the
symbolism of the life saver for a drowning person..

As we 'remember' these old songs that meant so
much to us we can 'relive' the old days, when we
were 'smothered' by the power and grace of the
songs we heard....remembering we can sense those
songs still floating around in our room or our
mind and memories.....

If we really Look Back we find that many songs were
and ARE a major influence on our lives then and now

Today many try to ignore the past...(being clever
swines) but the reality of songwriters gifts to us prove
that we can overcome the sleepwalking state of
dispair and depression by re-hearing truth and loving
it :)
