A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 24 years ago
Midix is right, music is art, meant to be interpreted by the listener for what they want it to mean. i think this song is about being overlooked by someone you truely care about, you know them and see them for how great and true they are, but they look past you to someone else who they think is better and being married does not mean you havent experienced a bad relationship before

A Perfect Circle – Orestes Lyrics 24 years ago
This song runs right along with the Maynards lyrics in H. Your close to someone, and you can't seem to let go of them, but keeping them close is killing you. the umbilical cord is a metaphor, not necissarily symbolizing the mother, but rather the nurturing connection between you and a loved one, and as with birth, after seperation this must be severed if life is to progress.

Tool – The Patient Lyrics 24 years ago
I like the ideas everyone. But i have another view of this song. It seems to me that Maynard always uses metaphors in his songs to allow everyone to relate them to thier lives. In my case this song is about being close to someone but they aren't ready to go further. Bordem has set in "teduim" because the narrorator wants to go beyond where they are. But the other person is afraid, and is simply using that as an excuse "paranoid, paralyzed vampire." He keeps reminding himself that there is a reason he is still here, the love and possibility of moving further "if there were no reward..." if it wasnt for that he would have surely moved on to someone else, and he still may, regretfully.
