| One of the best things about songs (In my opinon) is that, no matter how the writer intends it, it is enjoyed most by how the listener interprets it. This song for myself is about Bipolar/ Manic Depression.How a person might feel one way, yet appear quite opposite. Possibly be both at once. Out of control inside but appear very in control...with questions and doubts...but no matter what will be fine (litterally, or sarcastically). The one hand in her pocket is her inner self...and the other hand that everyone can see is a distraction. | |

| This one is one of my childhood faves of course it has so many interesting and clever interpretations.. maybe because the name of the band "zombies" seems to conjure images of a sbeautiful woman who perhaps has died in some tragic way.. and i always felt that was probably hidden in the meaning somewhere so i finally decided to "dig up" what the hidden meaning might be.. and yes it is close in that sense although 'she's not there' doesnt refer to a funeral.. but a real life wedding his former girlfriend called off only a week before the ceremony. the sadness goes into this song and makes it .. eerie and truly classic. awesome song. | |

I, personally, can see this song from the perspective of a murderer as well as someone battling with thought. He's in the aftermath of killing his (first?) victim and he's finally thinking about it. I think this theory goes with the music video too: he's attempting to change his identity and face either to change the kind of person he is and to have a completely new start, or to change his identity so nobody finds out it was him and catches him. However, this is from more of a storytelling side and I do understand that this probably isn't the most believable theory about the song! I'm working to become an author and love to see songs from a darker and more storytelling point of view. c: Here's a complete analysis: I ponder of something great ( ::His thoughts before the murder. He's recounting on how he felt, and at the time he thought about it and thought that it was a great idea.:: ) My lungs will fill and then deflate They fill with fire, exhale desire ( ::His anger/feelings about the person come in, and with that his desire to kill grows.:: ) I know it's dire my time today ( ::He knows that he could get caught for this, and possibly imprisoned for a very long time making his situation dire.:: ) I have these thoughts, so often I ought ( ::Now, after the murder, he's thinking about what he did very often.:: ) To replace that slot with what I once bought 'Cause somebody stole my car radio And now I just sit in silence ( ::From this I guess that he doesn't have a car radio, apparently stolen, and now he sits in silence without the radio to distract him from everything.:: ) Sometimes quiet is violent ( ::In silence he contemplates what he did, which was an act of violence.:: ) I find it hard to hide it ( ::Hiding that he literally committed murder is difficult for him.:: ) My pride is no longer inside It's on my sleeve ( ::He's finding it harder to keep to himself.:: ) My skin will scream reminding me of Who I killed inside my dream ( ::In his dreams he's beginning to see who he killed, a constant reminder of what he did.:: ) I hate this car that I'm driving There's no hiding for me ( ::He can't hide anymore. I'm guessing that the police are on his trail and he's on the run.:: ) I'm forced to deal with what I feel There is no distraction to mask what is real ( ::He has nothing to distract himself with and continues to absorb himself in thoughts of what he did, and he know it was real and he can't change that.:: ) I could pull the steering wheel ( ::He's considering killing himself to stop the thoughts, out of guilt. Or possibly in order to escape from those chasing him for what he did.:: ) I ponder of something terrifying ( ::This opening line is similar to the first verse, except now he's thinking about his act and finds it terrifying. Either that or he's considering killing again, but this time does't see it as something 'great' anymore but rather horrifying to him.:: ) 'Cause this time there's no sound to hide behind ( ::Again, there's nothing he can do to distract himself and he has nothing to cloud his thoughts.:: ) I find over the course of our human existence One thing consists of consistence And it's that we're all battling fear ( ::He's afraid. For other reasons than normal people, but he realises that all people are scared of something. He's afraid of being found and of what he did.:: ) Oh dear, I don't know if we know why we're here ( ::He's beginning to sink into deep thought and can't stop.:: ) Oh my, too deep, please stop thinking I liked it better when my car had sound ( ::The lack of distraction is causing him to get deep into thought about everything, and it all branches from what he did.:: ) There are things we can do But from the things that work there are only two And from the two that we choose to do Peace will win and fear will lose ( ::He concludes that if he'd been peaceful, he wouldn't be afraid like this and that people should be peaceful in order to overcome fear and avoid it, unlike him.:: ) It is faith and there's sleep We need to pick one please because Faith is to be awake And to be awake is for us to think And for us to think is to be alive And I will try with every rhyme To come across like I am dying To let you know you need to try to think ( ::He's making a point about how he betrayed faith and didn't think about what he did, and he's saying that others should think before they commit something like murder because of the effect it has on you in the aftermath.:: ) I ponder of something great ( ::He's now thinking back to what he did afterwards, recalling what he thought of it.:: ) My lungs will fill and then deflate They fill with fire, exhale desire I know it's dire my time today I hope you like this interpretation of the song! I love to think of this song as someone who really regrets killing another and is consumed by the act, but I also enjoy the other ideas about someone struggling with thought in silence and also the idea that Tyjo literally had his car radio stolen, as unfortunate as that must have been lmao. |
