The song doesn't really have much to do with pot at all. It is more about someones actions or comments being so messed up that he feels like the only way someone would do or say whatever it is he's talking about, would have had to been on something. Like the saying "what where you smoking" Usually as has been in the past he is talking about someone judging him (Who are you to way your finger) for something they do themselves or just judging him in general. Tool isn't fond of finger pointers! |

Seems obvious to me... the song is about people or someone who cant make up there mind or keeps puts things off .... basically someone or people being indecisive.. and hes seems to be annoyed by it.. which I dont blame him for..
Seems like to me hes saying.. make a f*cking choice already.
I can relate.. I hate it when people just jackalack around, about making decisions... especially when they directly affect me... JUST CHOOSE!!!! |

I wouldnt take what Maynard says for the song meanings to literally... I seen Tool about 7 times now... and once in on a show in Memphis, TN he told the crowd that the song Eulogy was about Elvis.... Obviously its was a joke but I think he does it to keep people on their toes... I have heard that the song Eulogy is acutally about L. Ron Hubbard, Jesus Christ and others.. you take your pick they all fit... but the Elvis joke was hiliarious.
As for Madson i dont think that his opinion is correct but it does make sense.
Most honestly I really dont think you can interept the song incorrectly as its takes own different meaning for different people but it is a great song... I'm sure the is a true meaning to Tool and Maynard but I'm not so sure he is willing to share that with us and I respect that...

I have seen it live and its disappointing if the dont play it anymore, but you rarely him them play much of Opiate any more either ... so some of the songs have lost their meaning as the band has matured... although I think its probably their best album... |

I think it has little to do with record sells or leaving Tool... usually Maynards songs relate to past experience or thoughts that hes had... Im sure there is a meaning to the song but I dont think we can really understand the "true" meaning of most of Tools songs becaue they are only relative to what Maynard him self has seen or experienced.. Trying to guesstimate what Maynard is really trying to say it hard and he rarely just blantantly comes out and says what his song meanings are... i think he likes people to take the song for what they see it as... And schism86... dont take Maynards song interpertations from shows to literal, he is usually joking around with what he says a song means... I know at a show he said that Eulogy was about Elvis.. of course this was only cause we were in Memphis... Elvis's birthplace!! LOL.. I thought it was funny! (yes I know Elvis does suck!) |

they do give credit to maynard for co-writing the songs .... I really dont think he didnt add in the song writing...I dont think he would just sing someone elses words if he didnt contribute to the creation of the song!

what makes you think hes making fun of religion or being anti-religions...i wouldnt jump to conclusion like that ... maybe thats why christianity is made fun off... i think the main reason is cause its the most widely practiced in the US... but still he just tells the story from the Christian Bible from the perspective of a character in the book, he never once said he agreed with that perspective ... there is not one part that makes me think he is poking fun at anything... if he would have sang a song in the perspective of Jack The Ripper no one would get mad, but if you mention on thing from the "word of god" you are automatically consider "anti-religious" thats what makes "so-called christians" look bad... quick to judge... maybe you should judge yourself. i think its a pity that so many people say they are christians but their action show otherwise.... |
