Dashboard Confessional – Heaven Here Lyrics 19 years ago
This is my favorite song on "Dusk and Summer". The music is ethereal thanks to Daniel Lanois. For once, I can't recommend a change in lyrics at all---nothing can be changed at all about this song. It's perfect. It's the stand-out perfect song of this album.

"Heavens not waiting, it's spilling its secrets". I've never heard anything described that way before--along with. "We've no other choice but belief". This song is as spiritual as his old "Further" songs. Lovely job.

This song's harmonies are the best of the album, especially with "she gets you any closer" at the end of the song.

Dashboard Confessional – Reason To Believe Lyrics 19 years ago
Funny how this song is going to be in the upcoming videogame Madden 2007.

I love the fact that this mysterious album kicks off with such a bang after the well-known "Don't Wait" concludes. With the gritty striking guitar riff, you can trick many people into thinking it's 'Taking Back Sunday' or some hardcore band.

When I hear this song, I feel that Chris truly revisited his FurtherSeemsForever roots-- so tough to sing along with him because of the high notes! Stand out line for me is, "My Body needs a reason to cross that line, won't you carry me there one more time?".

The rest of the lyrics don't stand out--I'm getting tired of biology lessons on the human heart, lungs, and how we breathe. I want Chris to write as clearly as the classic songwriters he looks up to---he's getting there. But not with this song.

Dashboard Confessional – Stolen Lyrics 19 years ago
In this song, I feel he delivers the best line of the album," We All Look Like We Feel ".

And for some reason, the words "You Have Stolen My Heart" never lose their meaning as many times as they are repeated. Beautifully done song, through and through.

Dashboard Confessional – Currents Lyrics 19 years ago
This song has one of my favorite lines from “Dusk”..."And if this is ever meant to end,
Then I hope it ends where it began. So hot with love, we burned our hands."

It strikes a chord in me because it's true-- I wish I could remember things the way they began. Be it relationships with people, or life in general. Greatness fades away, and by the end you often forget why it was so great in the first place--You wish you could remember.

Side note: When Chris says "in a halo of ember", I actually thought he was saying "and I hate love", which I commended him for doing! Some feelings of old Dashboard desperation, but alas my ears deceived me. Rats.

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics 20 years ago
This song automatically stuck out for me, even without listening to the lyrics. After a few days, I started listening to the words and I was shocked to realize that the beautiful music was telling a tale of a murderer.

I personally don't view this song with a Christian perspective. When Sufjan says "I am really just like him", it sounds like he feels disgusting. Sometimes there are periods in one's life where they feel like they're such a horrible person because they make wrong decisions/do wrong deeds and they don't understand why.

"How can I ever be normal?"

"I'm a freak."

I think we have friends like that. They hide their true selves and only show a bastard of a person that you want to punch in the face (hah).

When these people find themselves alone, they feel like dirt, like a murderer.

Bright Eyes – Method Acting Lyrics 23 years ago
This song, to me, is the *real* beginning to "Lifted". The first track "The Big Picture" seems to be a way to swagger into this album to greet you at the door. But when "Method Acting" starts, its like...here we go!

"There's no beginning to the story..".. A truly fantastic beginning to what Conor's gonna throw at your for the next 11 tracks you hear.

Bright Eyes – Puella Quam Amo Est Pulchra Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is great, every line of it great. It doesn't even turn sour like most Bright Eyes songs. Its just about love. Its only sad if you translate the title and realize it said he "knew" instead of "knows".

Well anyways--- Conor, thanks for stealing a song I could have wrote about my wonderful girlfriend!

Ben Folds – The Ascent Of Stan Lyrics 23 years ago
Jesus God, this song sounded okay to me at first but after a couple of plays its just gotten to me...in a negative way. To me, this is the worst song on the album. The chorus is so damn annoying, 'textbook hippie man"? Very weak.
