Incubus – 11am Lyrics 23 years ago
Okay, granted I haven't looked at all of the posts on this song because I don't have the patience to spend 10 minutes reading what everybody wrote, so I'm sorry if I retread old ground here.

I used to be friends with a girl who was with another guy, but I fell for her big time and when she went through a rough spot with this guy, she turned to me. It was great until it became clear that she wasn't going to leave this guy for me. A year and a half later, I wound up in the same situation with the same outcome. This song reminds me of her because I would try to be strong and say it was over, but then I would just lay around my dorm room not doing anything and hoping she'd call me and tell me things were over with this other guy and we would be together forever. Stupid, I know.

Anyway, as I understand it, Brandon Boyd broke up with his girlfriend after Incubus got back from touring behind "Make Yourself." It seems she cheated on him repeatedly while he was gone, which is why most of the songs on "Morning View" have a pretty angry tone to them (i.e. "Circles," "Blood on the Ground," "Nice to Know You"). This song is probably something he came up with while he was just in that ugly transition period between breaking up and moving on. Regardless of its roots, it's a great song.

Oh, and Maliejandra, I think you're on the right track as opposed to some of the other opinions at the top of the page.

Better Than Ezra – Porcelain Lyrics 23 years ago
This song reminds me of a poem by Robert Browning called "Porphyria's Lover." The last verse is VERY reminiscent of the poem. I wonder if perhaps the poem inspired the song?

Lifehouse – Sick Cycle Carousel Lyrics 24 years ago
This song is very personal for me. It's about a guy who bends over backwards to show a girl how much he loves her, but she just keeps leading him on without ever really being with him (the line at the beginning about shame means that she's probably cheating, too).

Just because a song is simple does not mean it sucks. It has a good message.

Dave Matthews Band – Angel Lyrics 24 years ago
I love how some fans can say that Dave is a sellout without realizing how totally stupid they sound. Wow, Dave got popular! I can't like *him* anymore! Bad news, folks: Dave is writing the same great songs he's been writing for years. Yeah, the new album is a little more radio-friendly than a lot of his earlier stuff, but it's still a very solid album lyrically. Musically, while the rest of the band is kind of turned down, I think it's about time they made an album with a few more guitar-driven songs (of course, being a guitarist, I probably have a biased opinion on this matter, but I like hearing Dave playing). The bottom line is that just because a song is popular doesn't mean it's bad...I mean, look at the Beatles: screaming 13 year old girls at all of their concerts, and still they produced some of the most influential music of the century.

Dave Matthews Band – Grace Is Gone Lyrics 24 years ago
I seem to have taken a different meaning to this song than most people: yes, the narrator is drinking away his troubles, but his love didn't just leave him. From the lyrics "You think of things impossible, then the sun refuse to shine. I woke with you beside me, your cold hand lay in mine," I think his love has *died.*
