Minor Threat really kicked off the straight edge culture with this song. It's the whole philosophy that the youth should be focusing on things more important than drugs, such as society.
"Straight-edge refers to a philosophy that's most basic tenets promote a drug free lifestyle. It developed as an offshoot of the punk rock/hardcore scenes of the early 1980's when the term itself is believed to have been coined by Ian Mackaye, in the self titled song, while he was the singer of the seminal hardcore band, Minor Threat. Beautiful song. Seems it's about a friend who lost someone and is really heartbroken about it, sort of a "cheer up" type song, yet the lyrics are so sad and powerful. This one's definitely my favorite off the new album. |
