I agree with exclusif. She's breaking her own heart by ending it with this other person who has been stringing her along and she'll later torture herself by wondering if it was the right thing to do, because if she did ever come around maybe they would been something to behold. Unfortunately, she does know that it's the right thing to do and breaks it off. |

I think this about the singer warning her mother to help her as a child and teenager because she's going to develop issues that she won't be able to handle on her own. It's the gut feeling. It's ironic that the chorus line is "sugar spell it out" as in "Just say what you mean" since the song is so cryptic |

I think this about a relationship that the singer wants to have but as a character flaw can't commit and will "hold the loss in my heart forever. she knew she "shouldn't go" but felt the pressure of a relationship and bolted and for leaving all eye on her, it's her fault it's over, she ruined a good thing. but she did want it so much she wished she would draw her lover a floorplan to her head and heart so she'd be tamed, so to speak. |

I think thats very accurate. I love the story told by all of her songs album. Amazing. I love her genius. The whole thing just burns in me. "All I need to hear is that you're not mine." because when she hops a plane and visits its just heightens and reawakens all the feelings yet she leaves and its back to misery and a purgatory state where you want her and you cant help it if only she'll just want you back but if she doesn't you need to know to move on... oh but what if she does? just wait a little longer... a littler longer... seconds, days, months... etc, but you can't convince yourself to let go until you hear the words. ugh. i love this song. |

I think this is a combination of what everyone is saying. The song is about someone perhaps cheating on a girlfriend while on the road or away as in the lines, "I'm feeling guilty..." and then "Calm down, I'm calling you to say..." Because the person who just got cheated on would probably be upset. Then again with the con of crying to convince people to forgive or like you because maybe you did something wrong but look how sorry you are, look how deeply affected you are, look what a mess it's made you, or because you're a mess you've screwed up. |
