Saves the Day – Dave Feels Right Lyrics 21 years ago
Chris says in the insert of the "Ups and Downs" CD..."The story behind this song from our demo is funny. Before he joined Saves the Day in 1998, David Soloway has been in Sefler when I was a Sophmore and he was a Junior at our high school in Princeton, NJ. David had a girlfriend who was a Senior at Hopewll Valley High. When she graduated and left for college, David quit the band so that he could drive to upstate New York on weekends to spend time with her, rather than having to play shows, practice in a dingy basement, and drive the rest of us around town (he was the only one with a driver's license). I was furious at the time and I wrote this song about David picking a girl over our band. You should understand though that my bandmates and I were the outcasts at school and we really only had each other as friends, and when David left, there was one less person in our posse to protect us from being scorned at school. So, being sixteen and not having a proper sense of priority and lacking an awareness of reality, I was pissed and here's the song that came out because of it."

Saves the Day – Jessie and My Whetstone Lyrics 21 years ago
From the insert of the "Ups and Downs" CD...."The lyrics for this song were inspired by Joni Mithcell's album "Blue" My sister had turned me on to that record my senior year of high school, and I loved the images and the intimate story telling. She used such wonderful details, that I was inspired to make up my own, The line that goes "please dive in puddles with me" probably comes from Joni Mitchell's song "All I want" in which she sings, "I want to wreck my stocking in some juke box dive." How I got stepping in puddles out of that is beyond me. To give you more random details, the night that I wrote the song, I had just seen a documentary about a bloody steel workers strike in 1859, and that's where the line about the strike of '59 comes from"

Saves the Day – Hold Lyrics 21 years ago
according to Chris...."I remember clearly sitting on the brown plastic seat on the train back to Princeton as I came up with these words. When I got home that night, I put music to the words in about two minutes. The song was just thrown together and I used to jokingly sing it to my friends, trying to make them laugh at my hokey made up love song, I thought the song was a bit corny, but the people I played it for seemed to like it, and then Bryan(our old drummer) wanted to put it on the acoustic 7 inch, so I said, "what the hey" and that's how the song got from me to you."

Saves the Day – Take Our Cars Now! Lyrics 21 years ago
the insert of the "ups and downs" CD says "...This is one of the only songs in our catalogue with lyrics that aren't entirely made up. This song popped out after a New England trip with some of my friends...in that it was one of the first times I had sung about real events in my life, not just poetic images inspired by emotions"

Saves the Day – The Way His Collar Falls Lyrics 21 years ago
on the insert of their new cd "ups and downs" chris says this about the song... "Here's another song that was inspired by real life events. I had been at college for two months or so, and I was quite home-sick and missed my friends and whatnot. My good friend Leif was in school way up North, and he was having a rough go of it in his early months at college, so I wrote this song for him. I remember he had come down to visit home, and we took a train into the city to eat at Vegetarian's Paradise. I sat there with my pad of paper and pen, just writing down what i saw out of the windows as the world went by. We were in car 1399 and there was some dude with a quarter in his ear in the seat across from us. I though that was funny, so it made it's way into the lyrics of this song..."
