Tool – Hush Lyrics 24 years ago
It's great! I don't know what else to say. Sounds like frustration at record companies and countless other organizations/individual saying, "you can't say that" or "that can't go on the album."

Ironically enough, they got this on an album (although Opiate was barely an album, and their first at that).

Makes me think of people blaming violence on music...you get accusations like "Marilyn Manson is responsible for the Columbine incident."

Tool – Prison Sex Lyrics 24 years ago
From the most superficial standpoint, this is a gross song about being butt-raped in prison...not very appealing, so looking deeper's necessary. The following lines are the most important, I would say:

Do unto others what has been done to you

Do unto you now what has been done to me

I've come round full circle.
(quoted from tool's official site's lyrics)

I think it's more about victims turning around and victimizing others. At first they are violated, but with time they "come around" to their predator's ways, and violate others themselves.

This is not confined to sexual predation or just to prison. In fact, it seems more like Maynard means to draw a parallel to other froms...religious "recruiters" seem a good example.
preying on the weak and feeble-minded, they convert somebody to their faith, and they cannot defend against these people so because of weak-mindedness they go along, and ignorantly believe what they're told.
Now, they become the missionaries, and ignorantly follow orders to find "recruits." They victimize other people based on how they were originally victimized.
(I'm not dogging all religious types now, just those who fit this example)

Even a child playing an online computer game can fit it. Someone cheats , and he loses out, so he gets angry and starts cheating, ripping off other people.

The concept of this song relates to many many things, we "come around full circle" a lot, and adopt what is handed to us, whether by a malicious enemy, or by inadvertent ignorance. So keep your third eye open and think about this one...

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 24 years ago
Great song...
About the apocalypse? Yes, but more specifically about California(more specifically LA) sinking into the ocean. I think it really shows how much maynard hates a lot of that city...
'fret for all the things you spend time and money on, cuz in the end they're gone'
"The only way to fix it is to flush it all away," and that about sums up how screwed up things are in LA, or any huge metropolis really.

Tool – The Grudge Lyrics 24 years ago
Oh yeah, where I said "issue to be confronted" that really means anything that you make fully conscious.

Also, the transmutation metaphor fits the song nicely, as far as letting go of the grudge.

Tool – The Grudge Lyrics 24 years ago
Nice job madson, I agree with a lot of your interpretation. Hmm, I had a long post on here, maybe I can say this again without rambling. Basically, I related the song to some psych theories of Karl Jung, which almost always tie in mythological and astrological aspects of our culture. I think it's worth doing again. First, I think the Saturn (king of titans) reference is valid, but perhaps not the only reason for mention of saturn. The metaphors of transmutation of lead into gold--like medieval alchemists attempted to do--lead me to Jungian theory. (Some Jungian influence has been seen in tool before, such as the album Aenima, especially 46 & 2). Anyway, Jung called an issue that must be confronted (like a grudge, per se) "base matter," "lead", or "saturn" (names known to alchemists). Some sort of heat/process is required to transmute it to gold--something good and beautiful obviously--which could be confrontation/resolution of the grudge. So this reference I think covers many lines of the song. Also, Jung considered astrological phenomenon and mythology in culture important to the subconscious...perhaps Maynard thinks ties like that are important too, since Jung's ideas have had influence on him. Personally the application of Jungian theory seems to be central to this song's lyrics, with myth/astrology secondary (always more than a single meaning).

Great song though, I always hate to analyze the good ones to any point beyond getting a basic understanding of them.
