LOL, I left a comment on here 2 years ago kind of complaining about this song because I am a "hardcore" ND fan. However, Rock Steady has really grown on me. Yes, it is completely different than the previous 4 albums, but all those albums are very different also. The lyrics seem meaningless compared to previous albums, but has anyone paid attention to the lyrics from their first CD? "A Little Something Refreshing" ring a bell? The band's growing, trying new things, give them a break. The lyrics might be simpler, because Gwen's happy, but pay attention to the band's performances--this album focuses more on beat than lyrics. Anyways, I enjoy this song, and most of the songs on Rock Steady, as well as most of the songs from Gwen's CD. Lighten up people! Listen to some different genres!
But yeah, I think this song is about Gwen's relationship with the band--the girl hanging with the boys. I quite enjoy it. |

My fav song on Rock Steady--and yes, the video is all Gwen, and sure part of that was the idea of whoever directed the video--but in a way, Rock Steady is like her album. I mean, in the other ones, most of the songs were written by the whole band, remember? So yeah...she is sort of hogging the limelight but whatever...it's not like those over at TRL care about people who play instruments. |

Yeah, I agree, bands DO change--but in my own personal opinion, I really don't consider this kind of pop-y stuff good music. I mean, great to dance to, upbeat, etc, yeah, and No Doubt's is wayyy better than a lot of stuff I've heard, it's just it is completely different from their old stuff, and not for the better, ya know? And another thing--someone said Gwen is getting the spotlight and the other members are in the background...soooo true. I doubt it's Gwen's doing (damn those record companies) but I'm just hoping they stay a band, whatever musical direction they take (hopefully more rock/ska, but whatever, I can survive). |

I like this version better...the English version doesn't sound as...cool...lol. She was right when she said you have a lot more freedom in Spanish than in English. |

Ooookkkkk....um...I just noticed something...the lyrics on Rock Steady are ok, until you reach the chorus...And yes, "Hey Baby" is an extremely song, one that gets stuck in your over and over and over again...and it would be ok, except...it has been totally overplayed, and it isn't good enough to hear a gazillion times in one day. |

OK, this is a good dance song, but it's not No Doubt...And all those ppl claiming to be No Doubt fans "all their albums sound different...blah blah blah"...At least they were good before, and had actual songs...Rock Steady is an OK CD...But it's a disappointment when its from No Doubt because their previous albums were a lot better (my favorites being The Beacon Street Collection and Tragic Kingdom). And yes, they did gain a wider fanbase...the teeny-bopper generation...I know a few people who are perfect examples. And as far as "appealing" to more people...they aren't. More people listen to them, and think "like, omg, No Doubt is like soooo cool"...but only because Carson and our good friends at MTV snapped it up. And yes, their styles do change a little, all bands do, thats what a band does, but this is just...drastic. I wouldn't mind so much if it was one or two pop songs, but the whole album??? C'mon...When you're in your 30's you don't move to pop, isn't that when most artists mature??? Grr...No Doubt, come back to us!! |

Um...I'm not gonna give my interpretion of the song, but as a native Californian...I can explain why everyone loves Cali. And *not* because of Hollywood, LA, etc...I live near the Bay Area, and the LA area is a good 8 hour drive away...but California is great because it's so diverse. I mean, everyone thinks stardom, movies, etc, but there's a lot more. I guess it's just the kind of place you gotta live in to love (most people born in California don't move away.) I don't really get Texas tho...My friend's told me some interesting stories about Texas (no offense to any Texans, I'm your state is great). |

I love this song too. And yeah, not many people have heard of it--the only reason I know is becuz there's a local radio station who plays it a lot...But yeah its great. I think it might not be about college, but about 2 people, after they graduate high school. They've probably been living in the same town most of their lives, and one of them's dying to get out, leaving their friend behind...and so on. I think this song was on the "Tomcats" soundtrack...I think...some movie during the ending credits anyway. |

Ya. Probably a lot of it is cuz Shakira wrote it herself. She doesn't fit in the typical Britney-Christinia-teeny bopper-genre. This is an honest song, and she has a great voice. |
