This is what I got from the song: It's two friends, the singer's friend had a girlfriend and got her pregnate. He couldn't take the pressure so he "took a weeks vacation to forget her" and she killed herself while he was gone, because she didn't want to have the child either, Thus the "Not a baby's breath or a shoe full of rice" 'Cuz you throw rice and weddings and the couple didn't get married and the baby never was born because she killed both of them. Now, the singer and his friend think about her alot and they're all sad. And stuff. They both feel responsible but they don't want to admit it. They feel stupid for thinking nothing would happen and that they knew everything, and they were merely freshmen so they didn't have anyway to prepare for that. They were both so young.. I think the greatest line in this song is "Thinks about her now and how he never really wept he says" Because it's really sad if you think about it. His friend must've really loved or at least cared for this girl if he still thinks about her now, and now he's feeling even worst about the whole thing because he never really cried for her, although maybe he probably wanted to. But, whatever. That's me. ^_^; |
