i think this is a really cool song, cos it addresses people with special needs from a really interesting angle.. and i know that chad has done a lot of work with such people... 'yes i hear you, i have all ideas in the world'.. it's almost haunting... i think it just shows how much we take for granted, and how 'normal' people underestimate and categorize the handicapped and assume that because they have mental (or physical) handicaps then they aren't capable of 'normal' thought.... rock on chad... peace, harris |

i think the 'smile' line is there because he's obviously never really coming back, and so, why not smile? also, i don't think it's necessarily abuse of power, but more like the lazy-ass 'guilty til proven innocent' mentality of the current justice system... i also think it's cool how it takes the view of the average cop ("we have a job to do and our job is the law")... it adds an interestingly human aspect to the 'higher man'... peace, harris |

I agree with a lot of things that people have said. If you check out www.spatchpatch.com, they have a really short analysis of what this means w/ the translation of the Shona lyrics and yes, indeed Chad (Chetro) travelled to Africa. I think that in addition to what everyone has sad before, this song really speaks to the immense cycle of poverty found in developing nations and the profound impact it can have on one who experiences it firsthand. "do you think you could answer all the questions of the world, in just one word, i think you could..." reflects on the unparalleled wisdom often seen in people who have nothing. Also, i think the 'distance is short...' line isn't so much about material things, but rather it's kind of an 'it's a small world' line, saying that they're not really so far away (ie US & africa), and that things aren't really so different, if 'your hand carries' the experiences and the lessons 'your eye found...'
