Ok, to me, this song’s impression on me is that it is about a person who has lost his self-esteem (and possibly his mind) and “needs” this other person’s love, more specifically, a person’s *physical* love, in order to make him stable again. In a way, it sounds like something has gone wrong in his life and that he's given up on trying to find what he can do right. Maybe he's trying to show her that life sucks, so they might as well enjoy what they can. So, he’s trying to convince her that they need each other for the security. It’s kinda like he’s arguing with her. But you can’t hear her side of the conversation For example: Wounded, you can take me there [I was hurt but you can help me] I ain't lookin' for confusion But it tends to follow me [just re-enforcing what I was saying about this person being a little, ahem, “lost” in life] You can come into my house, she said [well, she invited him in. maybe not necessarily her "house" but her "world"] If you do it quietly [but didn’t want him to try anything funny…] But I said There ain't no chance at that [but he’s not going to promise that he won’t] Put up your hands if you want me to stop [that’s… kinda straightforward…] And I turn around, but I think you're crazy if you think this happens a lot [that just gives me the impression that after he’s done with her, he’ll leave her there but not want her to think that he’s a bad person] Oh, do you like this? [I’m not going to go into detail on this…] Do you need someone to cover you, Just to show you what you missed [like how I need you to cover me and show me what I’ve missed] [then, for a while I really just don’t understand it] So hey Where you going? [sounds like she's walking away from him and his offers but he doesn't understand] Do you need somebody, somewhere To help you get on by? [I guess he's kinda taunting her. Trying to convince her that she doesn't need the rest of the world. That he'd be there for her.] Cause I think, you know who I am [saying that he believes that she could understand him] I'm gonna make this, as fast as I can Some people call me the pusher man I promise it won't take long no no no no [ still not going to go into details] Just close your eyes and get in the van [maybe he’s taking her off the street?] well, I know that was a pretty crappy interpretation, but that was my first impression of the lyrics. The music really does bring this whole song together. One of my fav's. |

To me, the beginning of the song before the chorus, is just imagery. well-worded imagery. it just reminds me of the kinda 'living in the moment' moments that Walt Whitman told of. But instead of the connections and awareness in nature that he described, I think this song is describing those feeling with a person. What I mean is, how a person's eyes can be opened up to everything beautiful when they are so in love. As for the rest... Carry you is just promising a person for security. Wanting to be with them every step of the way. The drunk with the cool glazed eyes, to me, is just what it sounds like. You know those old, drunk, small-town men you run into that give you random advice? That's what that sorta seems like to me. More connections with people. A whole world is painted with this song. A small town, walking through the woods with a person you love. Stopping at a bridge and watching the beauty of that person blending with the rest. Love. That's all it is. |
