This song is obviously about Frank Herbert's Dune novels. Fill our mouths with cinnamon? Melange is always referred to as having a cinnamon smell/taste. It is more about the later novels though. Allow me to elaborate: "We'll make our homes on the water" -While those who have read only the first novel may think this is about the Atreides home world Caladan, this is obviously about God Emperor of Dune. Arrakis has been covered in water, and the Fremen, or what's left of them, live on a lush planet covered in water. "We'll build our walls aluminum"- other people commenting on the cheap structural quality of aluminum. The structures on Arrakis were not meant to stay forever. It is a metaphor to the end of the Tyrant's rule. "These currents pull us Across the border" -This is about the scattering times that take place between God Emperor and Heretics. The Golden Path creates currents that pull people beyond the realm of the Imperium. "Steady your boats, arms to shoulder Until tides are pulled, hold our grounds Making this cold harbor now home" -About Chapterhouse Dune, where the Bene Gesserit have made the Chapterhouse Planet the new home of the worms and sandtrout. This new harbor will have to do for the worms and the glimmer of knowledge from the Tyrant, and the Bene Gesserit will have to protect it. So there. I am right. You are all wrong. |
