Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics 21 years ago
neveroddoreven: Alice and Wonderland certainly isn't an LSD trip, it's just an amazng story written for kids full of a number of logic and word games. However, it is true that Lewis Caroll had been taking Opiates around the time he wrote the story. The practice was not uncommon at that time and it fits quite well into the drug history tht others may ignore. Similarly, it is possible to assume that while these songs may not be drug related (Bob Dylan claims he has never written a song about drugs--not even rainy day woman with its famous chorus "Everybody must get stoned") it is still possible that drugs influenced musical production creatively, thematically, emotionally, or any other number of ways. Don't really know how this fits into this discussion, but hey if we're speding so much time talking about "you're so vain" or complaining about ein arschloch so proud of his mediocre German skills, then my comment stays. Muss es sein? Es muss sein.

David Bowie – Space Oddity Lyrics 23 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be "For here am I sitting in a tin can" too. Oh well, Great song.

www.spatchpatch.com has tabs. Some are good, some not, kinda depends. I'm pretty sure the cords are correct for this song, but it doesn't go into detail about the picking pattern.

Jack Johnson – Inaudible Melodies Lyrics 23 years ago
ilovejack made the correct reference to Plato's allegory of the Cave, but told the story a little bit wrong. The situation is this: Plato told of a cave where men were chained facing a wall inside a cave. They were never allowed to leave, and the only exposure to light cam in the form of shadows that were cast upon the wall they were facing. Assuming an individual was raised in this environment, this person would have no concept of what light really was--they would only understand little of such an amazing phenomenon. The allegory goes on to explain more than this, but I think this much gives a good picture of what Jack Johnson is trying to say in the last few lines.

Well Plato's cave is full of freaks
Demanding refunds for the things they've seen
I wish they could believe
In all the things that never made the screen

Jack Johnson – Fortunate Fool Lyrics 23 years ago
Thyis song definitely has a sarcastic tone to it. Jack Johnson is not describing a girl that he loves, rather he's talking about someone who feigns intelligence (she's the one who stumble's when she talks about the seven foreign films she's checked out) and maintains popularity, but is, in reality, a bit foolish. It's almost as though she's lucky that nobody discovers her foolishness, thus the title, "Fortunate Fool."

Great Song. Reminds me of my ex-girlfriend a lot.

Dave Matthews Band – Long Black Veil (Lefty Frizzell cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
This song has been performed by The Band, Johnny Cash, Dave, and a number of other performers, but I don't think it was written by anyone identifyable. I'm pretty sure this is a traditional American tune that has been popularized by several artists.
