| Tomahawk – God Hates A Coward Lyrics | 14 years ago |

After listening to the live version a million times I have to conclude: I'll eat the dirt... Sittin' quiet in the corner... Dropping your heart in my vinegar... |

Here's mine, after reading all the interpretations here: I'll shoot my seed with a metric grosse No footsteps go beyond it I'll eat the dead Where the rooster crows Flesh rodeos, yee-haw it's Take a piss in your teardrops Make you a cyclops Breakin' the branches off your family tree Keep you up like a fluffer girl Ain't that enough? No sir Look in the sewer for my pedigree Your koolaid charms and beaded balls Have made your senses shit Ain't it true Make me blow my brains out Packing a gun Put my neck in a noose But I'm hangin' tough Day, my, day, my, day, my, day, my Day, my, day, my, day, my, day, my Listen closely to your mother You can hear ocean roar Sittin' quietly in the corner Put another record on God hates a coward sonny Got a date with your VCR Watch another action movie Dream of me On the only piano Wrote the fuckin' concerto Shoot pool with your eyeballs Rack 'em up Make a meal of your asshole Gnaw on your fat soul Dipping your heart in my vinegar Like the millions of pigs Just like you thought they would live (?) To see them coming on back (?) And if it wasn't the piggy That was causing the screaming That we're coming to kill I'd never sleep at night (?) Alright burn it up Day by, day, my, day, my, day, my Day, my, day, my, day, my, day, my Day, my, day, my, day, my, day my, day, my, day, day, day, my Something like that. |

I like how this song has over 50 comments and that vast majority of other Lightfoot songs have 0. Shouldn't have embarrassed yourselves by posting here either. Then again, I guess I just did the same thing. |

I'm surprised there is actually debate about the second verse. Grab a pair of headphones. LightningBolt definitely has it right -- it's "everyone's hair" -- nothing about tales or tailors. He's making fun of dudes with coiffured hairdos. |

| Rush – Bastille Day Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Really, I wasn't aware that at any point in human history, we had ever discovered a set of "right hands" for power to be in... Even democratic hands can and do wield power inappropriately. It seems that the lesson to be learned is that power, in any hands, ought to be minimized, and/or balanced. |

Great movie, and great account of the story in song form. I especially love this verse: This ship pulled in without a sound The faithful captain long since cold He kept his log till the bloody end Last entry read "Rats in the hold. My crew is dead, I fear the plague" |

I feel it's worth pointing out that BOC's somewhat debatable turn towards a more "pop" sound after "Don't Fear the Reaper" wasn't an instantaneous nor permanent change. Much of their work in the 80's (Cultosaurus Erectus, Fire of Unknown Origin, and Imaginos) fall very much into the "sci-fi metal" category that their earlier work does. To say they simply became forever after a bland "stadium-rock" band is simply incorrect and ignorant. |

| Blue Öyster Cult – Astronomy Lyrics | 18 years ago |

^Seriously, the Metallica version really sucks. Metallica try to make it "heavy," except they totally fail because they don't know the first thing about heavy. Personally, I would go so far as to say BOC is, in general, much heavier than Metallica (who spoil their attempts with blatent suckery on every occasion). That admittedly debatable contention aside, as far as modern metal goes... Well, everything I listen to is much heavier than metallica ever was. Seeing as Metallica totally fail at making "Astronomy" heavy in any meaningful sense of the word, and they clearly have nothing to offer it musically, I don't see any objective basis for the statement that the Metallica version is "better." |

Too bad FNM > Primus Antipop had Fred Durst on it... What a hypocritical bunch of garbage. |

| Faith No More – Jizzlobber Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think it's a about a rapist or some other sexual deviant who winds up going to prison as a result of his crimes (whatever they may be). | |

| I love this album, and I love this song. It's simply amazing. The fist verse says it all, I guess. | |
| Mr. Bungle – Goodbye Sober Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |

In in response to necrophage: An even higher artform is doing this while simultaneously incorporating meaning into those lyrics, something Elimination is suggesting Patton does not, and you apparently agree with. In fact, you imply it is somehow less of an artform if truly instrumentational lyrics DO have meaning, which is silly. If anything, it's harder to both have serious meaning and to write lyrics primarily as music. If it can be done successfully it is all the more impressive. You guys are deriding half of Patton's incredible ability in order to fit his music to your silly, pretentious, and ulitmately immature ideas about "art." |
|
| Mr. Bungle – Goodbye Sober Day Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The post by "Elimination" is totally absurd. For starters, the pretentious attitude towards "avant-garde" as a genre and as "art" is not only annoyingly elitist but also completely wrong (for example the implication that as "art" music should not bother telling stories or even writing cohesive lyrics). Furthermore, the suggestion that, because Patton is clever enough to use his vocals as a unique and highly variable instrument, his lyrics are meaningless is absurd and disrespectful towards Patton himself. Of course the lyrics have meaning. Simply by using English words they songs have meaning; if Patton wanted to avoid meaning he would doubtless use wordless vocals, which in fact he does quite often. And I can't imagine Patton would come up with such clever poetry with no regard to the meaning of what he is saying. I can't even begin to finish my argument, what you say is so fucking..... silly! Seriously, just read your comment, you sould like such a pretentious asshole it's almost funny. |

| Pixies – The Holiday Song Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Painted on the sheets not only sounds like what he says, it makes sense. If he is masturbating to his sister, is it unreasonable to assume he might 'paint' her on his sheets, so to speak? | |
| Pig Destroyer – Snuff Film At Eleven Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| With this interpretation, the title would likely be implying that advertisements, corporate films (or music) are, in fact, "snuff," because the souls of those involved are destroyed in the process, in a sense filming (or otherwise recording) the very act that leads to your "death," which is, of course, the literal definition of snuff film. | |
| Pig Destroyer – Snuff Film At Eleven Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Seems to be about media culture, as well as corporate music/culture. The 'skin machine' is the machine that creates façades, false exteriors, i.e. media advertising, music made for money, etc. The 'self-flaggellation' continues the skin metaphor while expressing the idea that this kind of fakery is in fact damaging to oneself. Perhaps the 'vultures' 'made up like mokingbirds' are corporate execs, talent scouts, whatever, 'mokingbirds' because of their love for imitation, 'vultures' because, well, they circle, looking for fresh meat! |

| Pig Destroyer – Sheet Metal Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |

My interpretation is a bit different, but doesn't explain the use of the word 'sister.' It seems to be about a android or robotic girl used as a sex object, and thus "making 'love' obsolete." The ultimate electric vagina! |

| All Out War – Burning Season Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| This song is badass to cover.... All Out War is the shit and this song is great. | |
| Converge – Conduit Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| The part at the end (played in full in Shallow Breathing) is particularly badass. | |
| Converge – Conduit Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| Whatever dude, thats the part that i get into least of this song. And i consider it one of the best. All you kids get into that part so much... the rest of the song gets me wanting to beat someones ass so fucking much, its unreal. | |
| Converge – Concubine Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| By the way this song has to have the best breakdown of all time ever, although its like 8 seconds long. I don't even know where to begin to explain it... | |
| Converge – My Unsaid Everything Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| This song has my favorite breakdown, second only to the one in Concubine, out of a whole shitload of amazing Converge breakdowns! | |
| Converge – Concubine Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| I hate scenesters more than you do. | |
| Converge – Concubine Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| As for the name Jane Doe, it is in fact the name given to an unidentified female body. This ties in with all the pictures of dead -presumably - women throughout the CD - I've always wondered if those are real "Jane Doe's." perhaps old or something, but I doubt it. | |
| Eighteen Visions – Motionless and White Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Yes, all the cocaine references are as clear as day and so is the message behind the song... | |
