Radiohead – Knives Out Lyrics 22 years ago
sorry for all those posts before, some kind of screw up when adding it i swear, especially because now i think that's a bunch of bs.
now i think its about the unending battle between the id and the superego, the id (a cat) just wants to consume people, which is all well and good until the superego,(a mouse) afraid of meeting a predictable animal fate, decides its time to stop and that its wrong. so the cat decides to fight back, only he was unprepared for the mouses own counter attack, and lets him go knowing hes lost, but doesnt disappear. now this goes on and on until the mouse becomes afraid of itself or of doing anything at all that might force it to become nothing but a predictable machine of reason, and the ego or the self or something is so afraid of doing nothing, that it gets eaten. nature takes over and the monster gets to abuse and consume somebody. rather than love them.

Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics 22 years ago
i hope this doesnt leave a trail of comments...
but anyway, ive been reading dostoevsky's Notes from the Underground. and as well as orwell (or maybe it is where orwell got the idea) there is a section where he uses 2+2=4 to define reason (the lukewarm) then talks about human nature and the deliberate denial of reason, and all the reasons for that boredom etc... how human nature can be studied and used, how in the end all you can do is nothing.
i mean what's everyone waiting for anyway? the end of the world?

Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics 22 years ago
i think its about fear depression opression and conformity like if your not enjoying the world the way it is and having a good time then there's something wrong with you, maybe pretending to be happy so you don't steal your childrens wonder. maybe hes tempted to just end it all, give in to fear and finally kill himself for the future, no matter how stupid that seems. tempted to make millions and millions of dollars to take care of his family, at any cost. as if the only decent incentive people have to create wealth is relief from fear and to stop a family from starving, if he doesnt produce records they'll all die. or leave him and find someone who can, it stops being about love. if you dont love them there's something wrong with you, you have to always love them, you have to remember this, you dont love them (now what?)
you better love them.
or fake it (kill yourself, forget what it means to be yourself, its for all the best reasons. the world will be a better place because of your personal sacrifice. and the rebirth will be so magnificent and freeing.*nervous twitch*)
but that probably has more to do with me than the song

Radiohead – There There. (The Boney King of Nowhere.) Lyrics 22 years ago
i think the video and the song share the same meaning, which is innocence, the first line seems to be through the eyes of an innocent child, which would seem to fit the video with all the fairy tale puppetry explaining weddings and elderly couples (sex..shhh) about how people protect their children, or themslves from love, because they realize that "the natural way" comes without hope and that navigating the modern world is complicated, i think he admires at least on some level "victims" of teenage pregnancies but still says there there.
or its just an incredibly depressing and hopeless story in the opposite way, that human nature is inherently good but is forced to work around modern convenience and survival. that we arent necesarily designed to fail. maybe both. all hail to the theif.

Radiohead – I Will. (No Man's Land.) Lyrics 22 years ago
just came back from a wedding, and instead of saying "i do" they said "i will" which i'm guessing is a response to the insane divorce rate, also in the song the overlapping vocals with a high voice saying "my shell" and the low voice singing "your shell" about what you leave to your children when you die and the cycles through history made by people basing their relationships on their parents mistakes. killing yourself maybe? before you even have children?

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics 22 years ago
maybe about how men are out in the business world or out working to fight for their share, while someone stays home to raise the kids. and after a time you have to grow up and leave the bunker and start your own family ,but now with modern technology we dont have to leave, we can party and have a good time anytime we want, go dancing and drinking after a hard days work (isnt that what inspires modern invention, isnt that progress?), responsibility , we can build robots to raise our kids for us or plop them down in front of the tv while we wait for someone to invent rosie. and see what we become and see how long we last

i think white elephant is like a white elephant sale, where you donate something you dont need or dont want anymore for a cause and then somebody buys it at auction and the proceeds go to charity. but before that he says meet the real world coming out of my shell. maybe a metaphor for absurd self sacrifice and the struggles of fatherhood. a good compliment to there there?i dunno

I CANT BELIEVE NOBODY HAS COMMENTED ON THIS LATELY. i mean how much more appropriate can a song be for "our current situation"

i think its about how people desperatly try to give meaning to their suffering, and try to give meaning to hopeless situations, just so they dont have to face it head on. and how death can be both a comfort and a terrifying reality.

okay it isnt about that. first off cats are women or certain women, certain women that men are attracted to because they think that she can change them for the better, or at least make their life easier, and take control of it. cats are also domesticated animals bred for their hunting and stalking skills, they're usually lone hunters, where dogs are bred for not only their hunting or herding abilities but also their ability to be social hunters and provide companionship. its about those sick, everyday codependent, relationships that the human race depends on to survive.

Radiohead – Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.) Lyrics 23 years ago
maybe the whole mickey mouse-like razor toothed money bear thing is supposed to be that former innocence waiting to eat you alive. maybe hes trying to say thats what guilt is and thats what can destroy a person. somewhere deep down we're all giggling newborns, judging our current actions based on infinite levels of compassion. who at the same time hates you to the same degree for being the cruel, selfish, untrustworthy, digusting coward you are now, unless maybe thats love too.
probably not though, the money bear thing i mean.

Radiohead – Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.) Lyrics 23 years ago
its about change, and how time changes you whether you want it to or not. its about your present self and all your former selves, and about reclaiming what you once were. changing yourself for the better isnt the invention of a new self but returning to your own uncorrupted self, the self that's been in heaven ever since you decided to ignore it (and has been secretly plotting your demise)
I think the line dinosaurs roam the earth is the former uncorrupted self talking to the present one about never really letting you completely abandon your innocence even though you can never completely return. and that line and the one after the sky turns green where you end and i begin. seem to be taken from the song fog. ' theres a little child running 'round this house, and he never leaves... ...and the fog comes up from the sewers and glows in the dark... how did you go bad?'

Radiohead – Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box Lyrics 23 years ago
i think the band said publicly that the song was about rush hour traffic tho im not sure.
ive always thought it was about how many people die in car accidents, and how the jaws of life cut a car so it can be opened like a can of sardines or is a reference to someting some existentialist said i think sartre about 'the most common human experience is waiting for a bus' and how most people always seem to be looking for a way to 'ride along' with someone elses ideals, or popular trends and activities, rather than finding the courage to live their own life and give their own life meaning. i'm also reminded of something i saw on the radiohead website that said " I live a wallpaper life "

ok i think i got confused keeping track of all these selves, or is it selfs, anyhow...
stay on, sit down, let it fall... is neither the present(now former) nor the former it is the new self that is constantly being created

it may be a reference to the 6 million dollar man as the title sort of suggests who was saved from death with the infusion of technology into his body, but the rest of the song i think is still just about that. we are born and try to survive and increase our chances of survival by improving on ourselves, using tools and technology and we become slaves to all our computers, all our appliances etc... and then as we grow up we stare in the face the certainty of our own death and try to become what we once were we try to understand how it is all meaningless, we digust ourselves, lose our innocence then try to turn back.
"there's a little child..""(aghost)howlin' down the chimney release me"
we seperate ourselves from who we used to be and forget that this is who we've forced ourselves to become and each bit we've added has to be removed if we want to...
i think its written like a speach made by the former self after a re-birth, to the present self(now the former self)
but if it does tell the story of how i made my millions, then it might be some sort of conversation between the former and present selves, 1st 2 are present, next former, next 2 present, then former again, then the next 2 present again. after that i think it could go either way depending on whether you think there's hope for re-birth or believe in...

all i can tell you is that last flowers till the hospital is a real radiohead song, the others may also be but ive never heard of them, they may be unworked songs for the upcoming album or may just be someones joke and even though last flowers to the hospital is a real song what you have may not actually be it.

Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics 23 years ago
I'm not sure why nobody else has suggested this but it sounnds like its about a family. about a man who starts a family though he doesnt love his wife or children, he has a wife that stays at home and takes care of the children. he controls them with fear. he has sex with whomever he wants besides his wife he has a mistress, he abuses his family hes rich white upper class and is allowed everything all of the time.he doesnt love his family -ice age coming- but that doesnt matter, he wants sex and he wants a family, he takes it and runs, he neglects them, the line "ive seen too much, not seen enough, not seen it", reminds me of one from the song Wolf at the door, *that'll be on the new Hail to the thief album* where he mentions the movie stepford wives, and says '' cold wives and mistrtesses, cold wives and sunday papers, city boys in first class, don't know we're born..." "...oh i wish you'd get up, go over and turn this tape off" the line in idioteque and WATD are probably based on a personal experience, maybe the laugh until my head comes off is from imagining *hate to spoil the ending for anyone so i'll be vague* the women being saved and put into bunkers to raise their children and propegate the species when the ice age (REAL environ-mental ice age ) comes and people are crowded into bunkers. and the men are throwing themselves to the wolves.
and the line the first of the children= KID A
the first born child of a man who doesnt need to love his own children, or his name in a computer program or something

I think it is a song about a person that is like a cat. who never attatches itself to anyone but has many lovers and uses them to gain something whether its sex or security or whatever and is allowed to because its a cat, and is expected to and who falls in love with someone who is cold and narcisitic because they can give it what it wants, and in a desperate act that someone tries not to care about it, so that they wont have to be lonely anymore. and tries to change it so it will love them unconditionally.
but it could be that i just saw the unbearible lightness of being, which is a good movie by the way.and they had a dog in that movie that they loved more perfectly than they did eachother.

Radiohead – Paranoid Android Lyrics 23 years ago
I THINK It’s a story told from the point of view of either a man-made robot or a god fearing lower class service industry loser about how people often think they have figured out the world and have the right answer to life’s problems, as if they have some handbook to life (the hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy) that allows them to always put everything in its right place. and then force the world to agree with them And the public (mob) is all too eager, like baby birds in a nest waiting for mama bird to come home with today’s answers (the panic, the vomit.)As far as the writer of the song goes, it seems if nothing else very self deprecating, criticizing the kicking squealing Gucci little piggy then the person who wants to revolutionize the world and destroy her in the process. Also I cant help but make a connection to the way the large lower classes often treat and are treated by the upper classes/governments and how close this is to many peoples idea of God the creator, but maybe I’m just being paranoid. anyway that’s just my opinion I mean what do I know?

sorry for attacking your opinion( which is valid and probably closer to the real meaning then most of the people who bother to post here) when i knew mine was completely irrational, this song is great, one of my favorite. im a big fan of radiohead and follow the band, i think i was just trying to prove some point about something, cant remember what, but either way i forgot there were people here not just random thoughts and words i could use to amuse myself, mark it down to the horrible freedom seclusion brings to the lonely.ill

Radiohead – You and Whose Army? Lyrics 23 years ago
im not sure why but i've always seen this as a song about standing alone against your own madness (well i guess it could be the first lines), and succoming to it, no matter how much you try to convince yourself you can change. ( HOLY Roman Empire)

you and your cronies means just that, but its the madness taunting you, it's that part of yourself that forces you to have friends because you cant stand to be alone with it and you know it is more powerful than you'll ever be by yourself.
i mean you and whose army, (well why not my own?) it seems like your world has turned against you.
you forget so easy, but the madness doesn’t, it lives in your actions and is defined by your mistakes, you never change, and because of that, in a short while you wont exist. Your life will have a life of its own, dragging your corpse along with it.
-but i do see how it could be seen as a song about how affluent western nations take advantage poorer less developed ones that are powerless to stop it, and why the meaning of a song about how crazy you are would be deliberatly changed by the writer (if that was true.)

Radiohead – How I Made My Millions Lyrics 23 years ago
i think i was stronger i was better is a referance to the 6 million dollar man (as well as the title) picked you out, the consumer talking to the discman, or thom talking to the consumer. dont worry this wont hurt a bit, but in the end he cant go through with it. let you out led you back stay on sit down let it fall, sounds like a good description of radioheads basic message, dont buy into new music, don't let yourself be a target, technology cant stop you from being human so u'll still have to deal with the consequences, but buy our cd, stay here but dont participate, just let it fall. which sounds like how thom made his millions, why the next albums called KIDA, and what the song KIDA is all about.
