Dear HoodRich MoneyMan. It's called musical variety. Some people happen to like their guitars distorted, their drums pounded, and their vocals scream. I should know - I happen to know. I'm one of them. I'm a screamer in a hardcore band. Other people like their guitars smooth, their drums gentle, and their vocals sung. I should know. I'm one of them. I'm the saxophonist in a blues/jazz combo. The fact that you don't like it doesn't give you the right to bash the fact that other people like it. It has just as much musical talent inherent in it as any other style of music popular today. Music is about expressing your emotions and your ideas. All great musicians through the ages have believed this. Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Handel, and all the other great classical composers believed this. John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, and many other great jazz musicians believed this. And, interestingly enough, Norma Jean happens to believe this. They just choose to express their emotions and thoughts through hardcore/metalcore. Moral of the story: next time you go to bash other peoples' tastes in music, think about why the music was made, not what it sounds like. |

To Ih8hardcore: Why are you basing your idea of the meaning of the song on your prejudices against the style? Why would basing music off of breakdowns (a legitimate musical technique that is quite effective when done properly) have anything to do with the philosophy? Continuing in that vein, I see nothing particularly straightedge about the song. It appears to me that it's about lukewarm Christians who go to church and go through the motions but don't really follow what they profess to. Second, you're displaying your closed mind by debasing those who listen to Christian music. Simply because you choose to listen to secular music does not make you open minded. In fact, according to the principles of modern political correctness, which you evidently hold as true, mocking someone for their views is considered the ultimate in wrongdoing. Third, if you hate hardcore so much (apparently to the point of branding yourself by that opinion), what are you doing listening to Norma Jean, one of the more popular underground hardcore bands? If you knoew you were going to hate it, why did you expose yourself to it? Simply so you would have ammunition to attack other people with? That's a bit petty, don't you think? |

And, oh yeah, the title is from Scripture. Jeremiah 46:19 (NIV) says: "Pack your belongings for exile, you who live in Egypt, for Memphis will be laid waste and lie in ruins without inhabitant. " Notice the third line. |

Stupid, eh? Which is why two of the lines come from a classic poet, right? "But we by a love so much refined, That ourselves know not what it is," -John Donne "A Valediction Forbidding Mourning, ll. 17-18. Look up at Aaron Weiss' feature. Notice any similarities? "We danced in perfect time to a love so much refined, We know not what it is, until, like a dullen wine..." -Aaron Weiss "Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste" |

| Living Sacrifice – Bloodwork Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I think it's talking about Jesus injecting his blood, and thus salvation, into the veins of the sinful person upon them asking for it (repenting), replacing the old, sinful blood with His flawless, life-giving blood. In order to do so, though, He has to brak us, tear the thick skin of sin that has formed around us. Oh well, those are my thoughts, I thought they may be of use. Keep it real- Rebellion |

| Extol – Inferno Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I think it's talking about when Adam and Eve bit into the forbidden fruit, and all that entails ("A bite of the fruit/Termination activated"). | |

| Zao – 5 Year Winter Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| ThirdZero, you may not like it when other people "force their ideas on others", but if you knew the joy that comes when you come to know Jesus as your Savior, you'd want to share it with others, too. | |

| Ugh. That first part with the clapping. It makes me shudder just thinking about it. That part could definately use some work. | |
| Zao – Free The Three Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Actually, this song was written about a court case in which three teenage boys were wrongly convicted of killing a trio of 8-year-olds. To find out more about it, go to http://www.wm3.org/html/sauls.html | |

| Whoa, I never thought of that. Thanks for the info. My mind isn't that deep, I don't think that way very well. | |
| Zao – 5 Year Winter Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| This is, quite possibly, the best song that Zao has ever written. | |
| Zao – Witchhunter Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Hey, Kiwidd? Zao's song titles often have nothing to do with the meaning of the song (like trashcanhands, 5 Year Winter, and Particle). | |
