| Eve 6 – Open Road Song Lyrics | 23 years ago |

There's a shortage of definitive driving songs, but this one really nails that rush of freedom and aimless exhilaration of being young and on the road. As they point out, it's not the destination, but the opportunity to revel in carefree independence, that compels us on this journey. It can be the greatest feeling in the world, just speeding down an empty road, the breeze whipping at your face, a song that you just can't help but scream along to playing on the radio...there are responsibilities, friends, loved ones, issues to deal with, but they all fade away for those brief moments on the open road Plus the melody line will be familiar to any fan of "Can't Hardly Wait", in the opening graduation scene of which an instrumental version plays. Sonically-speaking, the verses, bridge, and climax are all terrifically catchy, and magically befit the sense of momentum you feel behind the wheel (it almost sounds like you're increasing speed), but the chorus, alas, takes the mph down a little too much. Eve 6 have problems maintaining energy during their choruses. They clearly excel at the other parts PLUS, though their overly-clever, homonym-happy rhymes can get annoying, mad props (forgive my illegitimate street slang) to Eve 6 for one of their most impressive concoctions: of "pore", "pour", and "poor" all in the same sentence. Dr. Seuss would be proud Grade: A |
