This is the best song on the Rising Tide, by far. I don't know why, but I always am hit with a wave of nostaligia when I listen to this song. |

| Our Lady Peace – Clumsy Lyrics

I've been listening to this song since the day I heard it on the radio three years ago, and I've always assumed it was about someone who continually kept runninginto obstacles their life (taking up drugs, getting into trouble with the law, whatever). The person "tripped over" the obstacles, hence the clumsiness, and a friend that keeps warning them of these obstacles is growing apathetic. |

| Dead Kennedys – MTV - Get Off The Air Lyrics

This isn't meant as a personal attack, but most of you kids probably wouldn't even listen to music if it wasn't such an integral part of pop culture. Be glad for MTV, it's like your parents: teaches everything you need to know to hate it. |

"Ha, Reversal Of Man is so much better than Earth Crisis, Suck it."
I didn't realize Earth Crisis played grindcore.
Why the fuck are all of the pop-emo songs getting so many comments and classics like Firestorm not getting any respect? Ridiculous. What an influential song, what an influential band. All of the metallic hardcore today is just emulating Earth Crisis. |

"thetruemokid, do you think a band has too much of a choice whether or not their videos are played on mtv?"
Actually, the artist has complete control over whether their video appears on MTV. They sell the rights to air the video on MTV's airwaves.
Regardless, I thought that Dashboard Confessional sucked last summer. Go listen to some obscure GOOD music if you like this crap. I love the kids that live or die by pop culture's definition of emo. If an "emotive hardcore" song by someone you've never met can make you cry, you've missing out on your own emotions. |

| Our Lady Peace – Somewhere Out There Lyrics

Our Lady Peace was one of the greatest bands out there up until Gravity. They used to play a really different style of music, but now it sounds just like generic alternative. I just don't understand how they can change their sound so drastically. It's all right, now, but I probably would never have gotten into them if they sounded like they do on Gravity. |

Cuz anger's all I got to keep me warm when you're away"
What a great song. |

| Foo Fighters – Everlong Lyrics

I don't think anyone can really say what this song really "means" except for Dave Grohl. It's obviously a love song. It's a song that a 10 year old live-or-die-by-the-radio kid can tell is beautiful and it's a song that a too-masculine-for-his-own-good hard rock fan can tell is good. It's just a beautiful song. I don't particularly like any other Foo Fighters songs, but this one stands out as being one of the greats. |

| Minor Threat – Straight Edge Lyrics
|
Definitely one of the most controversial hardcore songs ever (side by side with another hardcore song, Earth Crisis's Firestorm). Although "In My Eyes" is what straight edge kids "abide by", this is the song that created a subculture.
Personally, I decided some time ago that I did not want to consider myself straight edge. However, I think that if someone is straight edge for themself and their own well-being, kudos to them. When it becomes an issue of an attempt at rebellion or a reason to enact violence, it hurts the straight edge label for the rest.
Alternately, I find it pathetic when kids tone down their drug use slightly, call themselves straight edge, and then start everything right back up. Those are the kids only looking for excuses to label themselves in some form or another, whether it is "druggie" or "straight edger". That is when a person really has to be called to question.
Oh, and Ian always drank in quantities, I'm pretty sure. He was just strongly against addictions in any form. One of the other members (I'm thinking Brian Baker, but I could be wrong) smoked marijuana while in Minor Threat, hence the speech on the live "Out of Step" on the discography. |

| Minor Threat – Filler Lyrics

Filler epitomizes all of Minor Threat's songs. Obviously, Ian is attacking blind loyalty to anything, specifically religion and love here. I think this is one of the craziest songs ever musically. I only wish I could have seen Minor Threat live, since this song obviously would have torn the house down. |

This is an amazingly underrated song by an amazingly underrated band. Not sure what it's about, but it seems extremely personal. I'm sure the blood symbolizes something, but I don't know what. |

| Sublime – Hope Lyrics

Covers usually aren't better, this song proving my point. Sublime didn't really change this song to be in their own dub/ska style, they just tried to musically emulate the Descendents. And look which band is around today. |

| Death by Stereo – Bet Against Me, You Lose Lyrics

This is a really straight-forward song. Death By Stereo is a great band. I think that they are the future of hardcore. Not necessarily the "metallic hardcore" we hear today, but they're taking the roots of 80's hardcore punk and adding a more "modern" sound to it. |

| Refused – New Noise Lyrics
|
They split up.
The reason Refused got over so big was because they played catchy music disguised as hardcore. I must admit, I love Refused, but I also admit that it's only because they're one of the catchiest bands out there playing music I love. Look at the Clash. Catchy rock music with punk views. This is also the same reason terrible bands like Rancid and all of these "nu-emo" bands get over.
Listen to the band Text. It has members from Refused, but it's so much more abstract and experimental. |

| Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics
| 23 years ago
|
|
I don't understand the hype behind this song. I listened to it, and I must admit, I didn't hate it like I hate most so-called "emo" that Drive-Thru Records releases. However, it's not any revolutionary song. It's not the most beautiful song I've ever heard. If you want to hear a beautiful song, listen to "Cyclic" by the Assistant or any From Autumn to Ashes song. It's a catchy little song, I can see why it got over somewhat big. But it's basically a filler song that was hyped up so much because of the scene it is a part of. |
