| Maxwell – Lifetime Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song means that we need to work everything out this lifetime because we don't know what chances we'll have in the next. Beautiful song. | |
| Tool – Reflection Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
When he said ego, I didn't really think about pride. I thought about the Freudian concept of the term. Sigmund Freud, a psychoanalyst, divided the mind in to 3 parts: The id, the ego, and the superego. The id is the part of the mind that demands satisfaction, no matter the consequence or situation (ex. a thirsty infant). The superego is the part that upholds your morals (ex. your conscience and ideals). The ego is what realizes that immediate gratification isn't possible, and suppresses urges until they can be sated (ex. going to the refrigerator when you’re hungry). It seems to make sense because he called his ‘self-indulgent hole’ pitiful. Which may mean that he’s become disgusted with his excessive indulgence. But then I thought that if you destroy your ego you’d probably indulge more. The lyrics say that the end is ‘beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole”. If you wanted to convey the transcendence of indulgence, you’d probably say that “the end” was above the hole. But Maynard uses the word below. With this in mind, I read that the ego is ruled by the ‘reality principle’. If you think that your urge is impossible to satisfy at the moment, you’ll focus on it until it is. (ex. when you really have to take a piss). But if you realize that you are ‘capable’ of gratifying your self and you let the desire ‘pass right through’, you wont waste your time ‘pining’ for gratification. Instead, you have it. And in being free of this strong internal desire, you’ll have more reason because you’re free from this one negative impulse. Unfortunately, we have a lot more than just one desire. We’re taught that gratification is a dirty thing and that the only way to be pure is to deny our impulses. To me, the song means that people, being caught up in reality and their desires, can’t realize their true potential. To reach some ultimate truth, you need to rid yourself of desires. And the only way to do that, is to act on them. |

| Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
Since I don't know much about fisting, I looked at the song in a more general way. Stinkfist made me think about how some people are always looking for a central meaning, like us digging into the song. "How can it mean anything to me If I really don't feel anything at all? I'll keep digging 'til I feel something " How do you really know when you have reached the core, or ultimate reality? You don't. So you keep going. But one day you'll come to the end, which means that in looking for something better you have past your reality or your truth. Or you'll reach the end or your 'shoulder. Cause you can't dig past your shoulder unless your digging with a tool. |

| Excuse me, I puncuated incorrectly. | |
| Tool – Die Eier Von Satan Lyrics | 22 years ago |

Tool's not brilliant. They're just trying to convey anything a disaffected person with half a mind can see. People, possibly Americans, have negative stereotypes of Germans. That a recipe brings images of Hitler and the Third Reich. But I think it's also a statement about stereotypes in general. There are just as many murders in America as there are in Europe. And people in any country have just as much freedom anywhere else. You know why? Cause control doesn't exist. Not in the sense that governments wield it in. And countries don't exist. People have been around for along time and countries were never 'created' until someone decided that they were better than the rest of us, and drew a line. But guess what? You can step over that line. Just stick your foot over. What happens after? Someone comes to spank you? Well fuck them? I’m god. |

| Rage Against the Machine – Calm Like a Bomb Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
I like the line, "Tha pulse of the condemned/Sound off Americas demise." I think it means that those people who were convicted of crimes because they posed a threat to the goverenment will control the 'revolution'. When they are provoked and their pulse quickens America will fall. ANybody know what it means when he says Same bodies buried hungry/But with different last names. "Hope lies in the smoldering rubble of empires" I think is a very interesting line. After this revolution you can hope something better will form. But when America first formed the founding fathers wanted our federal government to be decentralized and relatively weak. But the American federal government has some how become as powerful and influential as it is today. If there was a revolution, I doubt a government system in existance would work. There would have to be something completely new. |

I think that it humbled him. If a person wanted to meet me before they died, I'd be like "What the fuck makes me that important?" Damn. That's crazy. |

| Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 23 years ago |

I think Pariah Child made a good point. It makes me think of it a different way. And I never considered that the person this song is about could be going from bad to good, like DTD did. |

| Seether – Fine Again Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| A really great song. I think it's saying that people tell him that he's fine again and that everything is better. But he feels like everyday is the same. He feels like he's dying but he thought that becoming sober would make everything perfect. People tell him that one day everythings going to be fine for him. And he says that he knows that but he's in hell right now. That one day is to far away, that he wants to be better now. | |
| Linkin Park – Krwlng Lyrics | 23 years ago |

| Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I don't get why they would change it. I don't think it would affect the selling. But I think what Blue Eyed Devill said was very insightful. | |
| Linkin Park – Carousel Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I think the first verse is about a girl who was raped and is still tormented about it. The second verse is about a boy who is addicted to drugs. He thinks he doesn't have a problem and that he could quit if he wanted to. But he doesn't know how dependant he is. Even if he wanted to quit it would be doubly hard because his friends also have an addiction to drugs. If he got off them he would see how the drugs are slowly destroying his friends. This in itself would be enough to drive him back to taking drugs. "She/He can only fool himself for so long(x4) I'm too weak to face me" Those are my favorite lines in the song. It's saying that Although that the characters in this song don't want to believe that they have problems, one day their going to have to face everything. The second line is them screaming that they don't want to deal with these things because they're too weak to take a good look at themselves and see who they are. They'd rather pretend that everythigs fine, that they can handle everything. "Try to fly with the wings I gave you Try to do what you believe and I'll save you" I'm not sure about this part but I think a person who loves either of the characters is speaking to them. They are telling them try to hold on for a little while and then the'll come to rescue them and make everything better. "I never know just why you run So far away, far away from me" But they are still fooling themselves and they run away from this person who would have saved them from themselves. This person is saying that they don't know why they're running away from them when they could've helped. |

| Linkin Park – Carousel Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Oh yeah! Is a 15 year old considered a teeniebopper. | |
| Linkin Park – Carousel Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
I hate that people like bands when there not that popular but as soon as they become mainstream they think that the band is ruined. Linkin Park has not released any new albums since they became so popular so their music has not changed. So it's people like that who are bad fans. I'm a teeniebopper but I don't like the band because what they look like. If I judged the band by the members looks, Linkin Park wouldn't be my favorite band. It's a sterotype that every young fan of any band is a fan because of their looks. We're all have different maturaty levels just like adults do. It's obvious that your still in the process of maturing. How old are you Spunker3. 17 or so. Do you think that just because your a couple of years older than some people, that that means your better than them. You were once a child. You've forgoten how no one used to take you seriously just because you we're younger and couldn't possibly see that a child could be their equal. Well that's fucked up. People jump all over us when we discriminate based on sex or race, but when ever a person is looked down on because of their age people just don't care. I, for one, am tired of it. And I'm going to do something about it.(I just need to figure it out:)) |

| Pearl Jam – Jeremy Lyrics | 23 years ago |

Has this song taught us nothing. Violence not the answer. Not being able to think of a clever comeback doesn't give you the right to restort to violence. Name calling is probally where the whole Jeremy tragedy started. *slaps myself* Okay I'm out of counsellers mode. Lol:) Shit himself. A song like that would be hilarious! |

| Yeah, I can really relate. I've liked this guy for the past couple of years. But he doesn't like me back. This song decribes it exactly. But the song is one of my two favorite love songs. I usally don't like love songs. They're pathetic. But this one really got through to me. | |
| Linkin Park – Esaul Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I like the lyrics in this version better than the other one. | |
| Linkin Park – The Untitled (In The End) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
No, we just don't care about your opinion on Linkin Park. If we believe that LP isn't popish, then we'll believe that no matter what you say. Just because it's your opinion, it doesn't mean that the world is going to change it's opinion so they can take up your's. I love Linkin Park and even if they do have pop elements, I'll always love their music. I think it's great that they combined so many different styles of music without discrimination. "..remember, if you dont do that, the terrorists win." Really! The terriost have taken up the appearences of the memebers of a Linkin Park so they can infest the minds of the youth of America and ultimatly to convert mindless followers to their unholy cause. Next time I see Mike Shinoda I'll be sure to disable his energy mask so I can reveal his true identity as Osama Bin Ladin. |

| Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
Firstly, I think this is an amazing song. It was one of my favorites for a little while. I'm not sure what it really means, but this is what it means to me: "I watched you change Into a fly I looked away you were on fire" I think this part is saying that he knew this girl for a while and as she grew up she started to change into a different person. He tried to ignore the fact that he liked her better after whatever metamorphis she went through. "And I watched a change in you It’s like you never had Wings now you feel, so alive" He had been watching her and observing the changes in her. He's saying that the way she acts fools everyone, but himself. That it seems like she was always the way she is now. She makes it seem like she never had any dreams or expectations of herself, but she was completely different before had changed. Now that she's rebeled she feels alive and free of everything that used to control her. "I took you home Set you on the glass I pulled off your wings Then I laughed" He takes her home. When he says "Set you on the glass", it means he justs revels at how fragile and unstable she is. He takes advantage of how vunerable she is and he strips her of the only dreams ("wings") she has left. But the worst part is, even in the moments after he has taken everything away from her, and he is staring at her hollow, empty body, he is still enjoying himself. "I look at the cross Then I look away Give you the lungs to blow Me away" Looking at the cross symbolizes his regret for what he has done. He eventually feels guilt for taking everything away from her. So he does the only thing that will pay for what he did, he gives her the power to empty him like he did her. |
