Ben Folds – Still Fighting It Lyrics 22 years ago
i was introduced to this song at the end of this past school year. two guys in my fraternity that were graduating were both in school a cappella singing groups. they were also extremely close friends, of course. as part of the senior farewell arch sing of one of their groups, they sang this song as a duet.

not exactly the frat boy stereotype, but there was a lot of emotion and nostalgia. it was very powerful, especially the line "twenty years from now / maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers." obviously the analogy of two good friends doesn't quite fit with the father/son point of the song, but it felt appropriate. terrific song.

Third Eye Blind – Deep Inside of You Lyrics 22 years ago
personally i think the most powerful part of this song are the two lines right after that chorus, "I would change myself if I could / I would walk with my people if I could find them." that's just so poignant for anyone who's ever been depressed, felt alone in life or like they didn't know how they fit, regardless of relationship issues.

however, i did listen to this song about a hundred times in a row after my girlfriend and i broke up. all my friends directly associate this song with me. it's gotta be one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time, along with motorcycle driveby.

The Kgb – Fortune And Fame Lyrics 22 years ago
yeah so...toby and ben and leo went to my high school. they were seniors when i was a sophomore. they played at our senior prom which was pretty weird, and they played a couple of other sets on campus while they were in school and in the following couple years. i remember how excited the school was when they first started getting radio play (only about 300 people in the school so everyone knows each other). they got a lot more generic pop sounding in order to get on the radio in the first place, but their music is definitely good.

Evanescence – Bring Me To Life Lyrics 22 years ago
to everyone saying they're not christian:
they may deny it publicly in order to not limit their fan base or alienate anyone unnecessarily, but i think it's pretty clear from the lyrics what's going on.

there have been a number of interpretations posted about "someone" comes into the girl's life and wakes her up inside, etc. clearly, this "person" is god. "breathe into me and make me real / bring me to life" is an obvious reference to god breathing into adam to give him life.

the line "now that i know what i'm without / you can't just leave me" is also a pretty clear statement about religion: now that she's discovered god, she must be pious.

as to the comparison with creed, i see it...a band with a really good sound, but religious lyrics. however, i feel that creed is more prostheletizing than evanescence is. i'm not religious, but i can definitely appreciate this song in full, including the lyrics, whereas the lyrics of many creed songs bother me. this song is terrific.

John Mayer – Great Indoors Lyrics 23 years ago
john explained this song when i saw his concert in berkeley as being written for a friend of his who lives his life small-scale, stays inside his hometown (farfield, connnecticut) most of the time, etc. he said "as long as you lower your expectations enough, everything in your life can seem interesting," or something to that effect.

this song just sounds so positive. i can listen to this over and over and it always makes me feel good. points out how things that seem so simple and insignificant can be so great and empowering. really terrific song.

BOOO

i didn't know this song, but just tonight a girl i like, and was planning on making a move on, was over. we were listening to music and she put this song on. i didn't recognize it, but i heard the line "I wanna be ready for what you do / I been swinging all around me / 'Cause I don't know when you're / gonna make your move " about three times and decided that might be a hint...a bit later i went for it...REJECTED. can't really be mad at the song, but i gotta be mad at something, don't i? :(

Better Than Ezra – Good Lyrics 23 years ago
actually, i thought the emphasis on "good" was a sarcastic reaction to the note. as in, the note had said something about how it had been good living with him, and he's disgusted that after all the investment in the relationship, all she can say is "it was good."

though i do really like this song, i think the last three verses don't really fit. i was just thinking that they sound too much like early 1990s red hot chili pepper's funk style, which was interesting when i saw the above comment. now don't get me wrong, i love the chili peppers, but i don't think that fits in this song. i feel a little let down by this song every time i hear it because i think the ending doesn't fit and kind of makes it less powerful than it otherwise would be. just my opinion though.

Splender – I Think God Can Explain Lyrics 23 years ago
uhh, dariofoo -- this song is clearly about a guy who likes a girl who doesn't like him back, so he's saying that he accepts this and "will get over it yet" and "get off of [her] back"
not exactly the song i would dedicate to my girlfriend...
