Wow, twisted_fate...I comment that the song has a pop style, not lyrically or musically, and you tear me down and say something so thoughtless as "I feel sorry for whoever falls in love with you". Did that make you feel good to vent your anger out at me, to try and make me feel like the scum of the earth? |

This song is sooo powerful; it's one of my favorites on the album. It's about enduring through hard times, like a rock, and not being shaken because your foundation is stronger than the surrounding circumstances: Jesus Christ. I love the analogy in the first verse about having an umbrella for protection while outside in a hurricane. That is soooo the christian life, you know? (At least that's how it can feel....) P.S. If this comment looks familiar to anyone, it's because I accidentally posted it under "Suddenly" first. |

Everlong11,
What I mean is...I don't know if Vanessa meant for the song to be directed towards Jesus. She hasn't said anything about being a christian to my knowledge, at least, so I don't know if she would mean it that way. |

Everlong11,
I think this song could be interpreted as Jesus, as well. (I actually really like to think of it like that.) However, I don't know if Vanessa is a christian. |

I fell in love with this song a couple of weeks ago when I was listening to it. I was bullied a lot through middle school and high school, just because I was too "nice" (and weak) to stop them. The lyrics speak a truth that I love: bullies build their esteem based on the weakness of others. I know this is true because I have seen it happen to those who bullied me. This song is so powerful, it just amazes me....I always wondered why Jason titled it "Simon". Perhaps it is refering(sp?) to the one in the Gospel. If so, that's a really interesting take on it, and I believe that Jason meant the song to be taken both from that angle and the personal one. And another view: I see no reason why this song couldn't be interpreted as God/Jesus speaking to people. I mean, I think that's probably not how Jason meant, but I think a song can be interpreted in many different ways and still be okay, as long as you can back it up. Just a thought...=) |

I see this song in a different way. I believe he's addressing a girl, or rather, a girl who's a bit "uptight" about her faith. (Could you let down your hair/And be transparent for a while/Just a little while/to see if you're human after all) I think what Jason's trying to say is that he is far from perfect and he doesn't have all the answers to life's questions...but he's working on it. He's not perfect, but his faith is real. |

papercutdoll- It's not just you; some of the lyrics are incorrect.
Shinobi- This girl is probably trying to tell you either that she likes you and/or that you've really helped her see a whole new meaning to life. Just a guess... |

Ooops...comments for the wrong song. Oh well; the message is kinda similar. God gives us the strength to endure through absolutely ANYTHING. |

This song is about someone being hurt by another, but instead of standing up for herself, she holds it all in and waits for the other person to quit. It's something I can REALLY relate to, and it's one of my favorite songs on the album. =) |

I think this song could be interpreted in sooo many different ways. In a nutshell, it's about a guy saying one thing and doing another. The person could be abusive, unfaithful, committment-shy, not good at keeping promises, or just two-faced. The bottom line is, this guy is a liar, and he's causing the speaker of the song (Vanessa) pain instead of the comfort she deserves. I love the line "break me neatly" because it's proven during the rest of the song that this guy doesn't tactfully hurt her. Oh no...he goes all out to make her miserable. Sad song, but I have to admit, one of my favorites on the album. (If you don't have the album, GO GET IT! It's excellent.) |

To me, this song is about a girl who has totally given herself (completely) to her boyfriend. Vanessa's telling a wonderful truth that I think Hollywood has a problem telling the world: being in a love relationship doesn't equal happiness. Go, Vanessa! =) |

This song is about letting a guy know that you aren't this helpless female in love. You can decide totally on your own whether you're gonna stay with him or leave, and right now, you want to stay. But first, she wants to know what his story is. She doesn't want to jump in head-over-heels for this guy who won't be there to catch her. |

I agree; this song alone could classify Vanessa as a (gasp!) teeny bopper. The lyrics are sweet, though. But dude, I miss the piano... |

This song was remade VERY well. I don't like the lyrics, though. It's honest to the point, and that's the plus, but it's also very negative and just....depressing. I mean, someone sees the beauty of the world and wants it to go away because they feel like crap. I think we've all been there, but good grief... |

This song, to me, is about meeting someone who changes your perspective and teaches you to live life to its fullest, and not necessarily in a bad way. I dislike the video, though; it gives the impression that the song is just about making out, etc. And the song is sooo much more than that. |

This song has only a piano and Vanessa's voice for the pure reason that it's intensely powerful. It's about a someone feeling love (or friendship) for someone, but that someone doesn't fully realize or appreciate just how wonderful and special their admirer really is. Vanessa sings it with such passion, so raw that you totally feel the mood of this song: vulnerable hurt mixed in with anger. Brilliant! |

I had a "friend" about a year and a half ago who got jealous of me for some silly reason and decided to make my life a living hell (in her very own words). I was always nice to her, but this song expresses how I truly felt/feel on the inside. Though I played the part, I was NOT as naive as I appeared to be, and I often had to fight the urge to lash out at her for treating me this way. It may be angry, but hey! I can relate to it, and so I like it. I think the anger is justified, as well. |

I really think that this song refers to the aftereffects of someone (Fiona particularly) who has been raped or somehow broken by someone they loved. It expresses how they thought they used to be normal, living life to the fullest and having this treasure. I hear all the time about how when someone is raped, they feel so dirty. And, when you're so young and have been through something like that, you have this....depth that not many can really relate to. You become confident in yourself, which is a good thing by all means, but at the same time you're lonely and misunderstood. I can totally relate to this feeling, but not to being raped. Being broken way too many times, yes, but not rape. This song is the cry of my heart. |

This song is the story of my life about a year ago. "Pale september...i wore the time like a dress that year..." The firstt lyrics, to me, talk about enjoying a moment in life to every essence, and then it seems to fade away so suddenly, and the effect was so devastating for you that it sorta killed your spirit, made you not wanna live anymore almost. The second part of verse 1 refers to a sort of savior that helps Fiona out of this pit of depression. In my case, what helped me out was God, and next was my boyfriend at the time, Nathan. The chorus is the most beautiful part, of learning to trust this savior of yours and giving yourself to him/her. It's just so gorgeous; I love it! The second part I can't really relate to, but basically I think it's talking about this savior, who's just a little naive. Too bad the lyrics aren't posted here. =( |
